food: I love Smokey Bones at Polaris - 01/30/10 09:23 AM
We eat at the Polaris, Smokey Bones a lot. Officially the name of the Polaris area restaurant is Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill. Smokey Bones has great coupons... In the Columbus Dispatch... Sunday Dispatch I assume. What does a Sunday Dispatch cost? Isn't a "Buy One Entree, Get One Free" coupon worth the cost of a Sunday Columbus Dispatch? I did not really know where the Smokey Bones coupons come from... but we always seem to have one. The Columbus Dispatch, The Bag, the mailbox, direct from some barbecue heaven ??? food: Polaris - Claddagh Irish Pub - 01/25/10 07:19 AM
Claddagh Irish Pub is at Polaris in Southern Delaware County. Despite my name and heritage... I am not a big "Irish" food fan. What can I say? I like Mexican and Indian food... Don't get me wrong. I love corned beef and cabbage. I love salmon. I love potatoes. I love Irish whiskey... I have never really enjoyed any of the Columbus "Irish" restaurants. I have NOT been to Ireland though either. I love the look of Claddagh Irish Pub. If I was a big drinker it looks like a lively bar. Claddagh Irish Pub says of itself "We present an authentic

food: Chutnys at Crosswoods - 01/21/10 08:09 AM
Chutnys is an Indian restaurant in the Crosswoods area just north of 270. The Crosswoods area is in the City of Columbus in the Worthington area. Chutnys is at 195 E. Campusview Blvd., Columbus OH 43235 - Map I wrote about Chutnys in March 2009. It seems longer ago than that. Crosswoods coming soon We finally ate at Chutnys last weekend. Chutnys is the site of my former favorite Central Ohio Indian restaurant, Tandoori Palace. Tandoori Palace is where I fell in love with Indian food locally. Sadly it closed after only a few years. food: Closed in Columbus - Restaurant Widow blog? - 08/17/09 09:09 AM
I only saw the closed sign Saturday or Sunday. "Closed" on the Restaurant Widow blog... Exuse me for sharing the blog post in it's entirety but it said "Restaurant Widow is closed until further notice" with a photo that could be driving west in Ohio in any number of locations in the evening. I told myself Lisa and her husband were traveling.... A tour of Wine Country? Or maybe even Europe? Vacationing. Away from home and kitty kats for an extended period so she closed it. I had to hang onto the "until further notice" in my denial... Restaurant Widow

food: Not the Best Columbus Neighborhood - 06/27/09 07:03 PM
If Wimpy came to town where would you suggest he go for the best burger in Columbus? Where is the best Columbus neighborhood to find a burger? Would you direct Popeye's friend....who will "gladly pay Tuesday" for a hambuger today? To one of Columbus suburbs? Downtown? German Village? I saw a food forum where someone suggested some of the great places for steak in Columbus, including the Claremont, a comment on the forum about the Claremont: The comment above about the Claremont, "not the best neighborhood"? always struck me because the commenters opinion about the neighborhood The Claremont is

food: Where's the best beef in Columbus? - 06/22/09 06:00 PM
Who has the best hamburgers in Central Ohio? Columbus is of course the home of White Castle and Max and Erma's and the birthplace of Wendy's .... Clara Peller asked "Where's the beef?" about burgers other than Wendy's back in 1984. I must have blogged about burgers back on the original Discover Columbus, my RealTown blog...or maybe when it was still named Columbus Best Blog. A road trip searching for the best burgers? What a life. He says a road trip to the south. Or south of NY? Columbus Ohio is in Central Ohio approximately 3 hours and

food: Lewis Center too far to drive for a brownie? - 05/26/09 12:38 PM
View Larger Map not just too far... "Lewis Center is too dang far to drive for a brownie." Is a Columbus blog slamming Lewis Center? "Lewis Center is too dang far to drive to buy a brownie. Even if the brownies are fresh-baked daily. Even if the Lewis Center bakery is the very first match on Google when you enter "gourmet brownies." Nope turns out they are only saying nice things about Sugardaddy's in 43215 Downtown Dish. Turns out the Columbus blog is saying the Lewis Center's bakeries brownies are available in downtown Columbus now... The downtown Columbus blog is right

food: Tasteless commercial or just ill-timed... - 05/01/09 06:51 AM
The name is being change from Swine Flu to H1N1 Flu. You can't catch this flu from eating pork... no matter what it's name is. There is still only one confirmed case of Swine Flu in Ohio? or two on an official map from the World Health Organization. The local news says there are suspected cases in Franklin and Union County. People are flocking to emergency rooms in Central Ohio, or so last nights local news made it seem. I probably would NOT have noticed these White Castle Commercials if not for the news being Swine Flu all of the time.

food: A tasteful spot in Northwest Columbus - 03/04/09 11:45 AM
Penzeys Spices Chili season is quickly coming to a close.... for me Chili is fall and winter and I am ready to leave winter behind. NOW. Lisa who blogs as Restaurant Widow, a popular Columbus food blog just recently was in a Chili Cook Off at the North Market (downtown Columbus) ... I guess the North Market Chili Cookoff was a couple of weeks ago in February... part of the North Market's Fiery Foods Festival. I am on Penzeys Spices mailing list. I got their Spring 2009 catalogue in the mail and there was a coupon for a

food: Russian Food in Columbus OH - Hawa Russia - 11/18/08 07:19 AM
We finally ate at Hawa Russia last Thurday. We had tried a bunch of times previously but they do a "night club" on Saturday nights or were doing a "night club" the two Saturday nights we tried to eat at Hawa Russia. Hawa Russia closes early on Sunday. Hawa Russia is at 2680 E. Dublin Granville Road in north east Columbus. I had been craving the borscht and the Hawa Russia salad since reading a Columbus food blog's review of Hawa Russia last summer. ColumbusFoodie I have never had Russian food before. I read somewhere that the food at Hawa

food: Cafe Anatolia in Columbus - 10/27/08 06:24 AM
Cafe Anatolia is on the far north side of Columbus, in the Worthington area (north-east of Worthington, north of 270.) The restaurant's address is 1097 Worthington Galena Road, Worthington Ohio 43085 The local Turkish restaurant, Cafe Anatolia has a website. An outdated website that does not do them justice but how important is a restaurant website. Just don't believe the menu prices.... the dinner menu online is probably two generations old. The excellent Shepherd Salad is now $9.99 for the large. It should be labeled a huge. We split one and I had the leftover salad for breakfast. According to

food: Curious Comments - Is YOUR blog ever used commercially? - 10/23/08 06:41 AM
When you blog about local businesses, events do you get any comments that seem suspect? Pizza Pizza Pizza I had a pizza shop owner in Hilliard using my ColumbusBestBlog.com to advertise that his pizza was great. The comments were from Sean. I called the shop that was glowingly recommended and asked to speak to Sean. They said Sean was out. I asked who Sean is. Sean is the owner. He did not ID himself as the owner of the pizza shop in his glowing comment. Good use of social media? Good business? Rabid Fans In 2007 comments from a rabid fan

food: The Apple of My Eye on OhioApples.com - 10/05/08 11:19 AM
I am not a big apple eater... I don't have anything against apples but the adage... 'An apple a day will keep the doctor away' has never really swayed me. It may be lazyness.. you may think "how hard is it to eat an apple?" but I prefer applesauce or I love apple cider this time of year. One of my favorite spinach salads has Granny Smith Apples in it... I am kind of fond of a more tart apples. Eating a Granny Smith can be truly tart sometimes. There is something about autumn though that makes even a lazy apple

I had a phone with a camera with me but never thought to snap a photo of my plate.... Spice Lover - Special Set 3. With plenty of water I had an opportunity to try a rice plate (?)
