neighborhoods: Walk Columbus "as the crow flies" not anymore... Walk Score - 08/21/10 08:01 AM
Columbus  ...  WalkScore.com's scores used to be "as the crow flies."  Recently I thought there had been a change in at least one address I care about, on WalkScore.com
The home at 301 Girard Rd. Columbus Ohio 43214 in the Delawanda Park neighborhood lost a point in the change to WalkScore.com  The Walk Score for that north Columbus address is now 71.  A Walk Score of 71 is still considered 'Very Walkable'  byWalk Score.  301 Girard Rd. is very walkable.

neighborhoods: Sharon Heights neighborhood in the news... - 08/19/10 04:39 PM
Sharon Heights is a north Columbus neighborhood...   The Toledo Blade called the Columbus neighborhood that President Obama visited yesterday, "Sharon Heights."
"Microphone in hand in town hall-style, the President spoke and took questions from a small crowd sitting at picnic tables in the backyard of architect Joe Weithman, his wife, Rhonda, and their two children in the tree-lined, residential Columbus neighborhood of Sharon Heights. The family benefited on more than one front from the $787 billion economic stimulus package that Mr. Obama pushed through Congress last year almost exclusively with Democratic votes."

neighborhoods: May I Cut your Grass Mister? - 09/25/09 10:40 AM

This is a Re-Blog of a post from Jim  with Real Living in Florida...the problem with vacant homes is national...   some areas more than others.

Via Jim Hirschhorn, GRI, Real Living - Orlando (Real Living Real Estate Solutions):
Ah, memories of a young lad walking from house to house, looking to make a little pocket change. Fast forward to present day and many neighborhoods are looking shabby and homeowners are up in arms at the appearance of their neighbors houses due to foreclosures and bank owned properties.
A simple solutions. They can just cut the lawn for them (as noone … (3 comments)

neighborhoods: Not the Best Columbus Neighborhood - 06/27/09 07:03 PM
If Wimpy came to town where would you suggest he go for the best burger in Columbus?  Where is the best Columbus neighborhood to find a burger?   Would you direct Popeye's friend....who will "gladly pay Tuesday" for a hambuger today?  To one of Columbus suburbs?  Downtown?  German Village?
I saw a food forum where someone suggested some of the great places for steak in Columbus, including the Claremont, a comment on the forum about the Claremont:

The comment above about the Claremont, "not the best neighborhood"?  always struck me because the commenters opinion about the neighborhood The Claremont is … (2 comments)

neighborhoods: Columbus Ohio 43085 ZIP code - 06/25/09 10:46 AM
A ZIP code is a mail route... the image here is an approximation of the   43085 ZIP code.  The purple on the stamp shows the 43085 ZIP code.
Worthington Ohio a city and suburb of Columbus is in the 43085 ZIP code... 43085 is the Worthington Ohio ZIP code.
I believe the whole city of Worthington is in the 43085 ZIP code but not all of the 43085 ZIP code is in the City of Worthington.  The kinda sorta rectangular blob at the top of the purple area on the stamp is mostly in the City of Columbus... I believe … (0 comments)

Kilbourne Village is just west of Old Worthington.  I believe  the land  where Kilbourne Village homes stand today would have been farm fields for early Worthington settlers.
Yep. According to the Worthington site the subdivision was built in 1957 to 1960 and was previously the Episcopal Church farm lot.  Worthington.org history of neighborhoods.

neighborhoods: Where does Clintonville begin or end? - 05/23/09 07:56 AM

Do you know where Clintonville begins and ends?
Link to a poll:  Do you know where Clintonville starts and ends.  Choose all that apply.

Paul Bingle doesn't know. Or did not know when he first wrote this on the Clintonville website:
"Where does Clintonville end and Beechwold begin?"
Reading the post, knowing Paul's voice I hear this article in Paul's voice.  Paul was a Clintonville Council Member for years.  I think I knew reading "Where does Clintonville end and Beechwold begin" originally that it was Paul who wrote it....  Writes like he talks?

neighborhoods: Columbus Neighborhood Poll - 05/22/09 06:02 AM

It's a poll.
What's the best City of Columbus Residential Neighborhood?
Actually I said "City of Columbus / Columbus School District"  to distinguish between neighborhoods in the City of Columbus in suburban school districts.
The poll is just a little something I threw together on another blog a few years ago... I believe it came after a poll about the best suburbs of the city of Columbus....

I spelled out City of Columbus neighborhoods in the Columbus School District in this poll,  I named some of the biggest neighborhoods.  I certainly did not suggest  a large number of the … (0 comments)

neighborhoods: Columbus or Gahumbusville - 03/04/09 05:40 AM
Gahumbusville is in Franklin County.

Gahumbusville is just south of 161.
Gahumbusville is in the 43230 ZIP code.  Not all of the 43230 ZIP is Gahumbusville, the biggest chunk is Gahanna.
Gahumbusville is a very pretty area.  Blendon Woods is in the Gahumbusville area... or wait maybe Blendon Woods in Gahumbusany?
If you have a  Gahanna mailing address and live in the city of Columbus in the Westerville school district you live in  Gahumbusville.
I asked a man recently if he was the John Doe* in Bexley, Delaware, Groveport, Reynoldsburg, or Westerville.

This is a reblog of content from Diane Lynch a real estate agent in Illinois.  Diane is in the Chicago area but what she is saying about schools and neighborhood safety is true for Central Ohio too.
There's lots of information available about schools and neighborhoods in Central Ohio.

neighborhoods: Columbus "How SAFE is the neighborhood?" - 12/14/08 01:37 PM
What do you think of this site?   CrimeReports.com
My first impression was "if there is good data, it could be a good site."  It's objective, not someone's opinion of what neighborhood is safe or unsafe, it is crime reports, it's cold hard facts.
When you moved to a neighborhood in Central Ohio or elsewhere in the past how did you determine how safe a neighborhood is?
Ask your real estate agent Ask the local police Ask friends or co-workers? Other? City of Columbus Police Department's Crime Map on the ColumbusPolice.org site?  The map is NOW a link to a Columbus … (10 comments)

neighborhoods: Columbus Profile - 09/18/08 03:48 PM
At least for now I have the spot as sponsor for the city of Columbus on Localism.com I have mixed feelings about that. I am disappointed that with only two city of Columbus neighborhoods, Clintonville and Polaris, I got the City of Columbus for free. For at least a month the sponsorship of the city of Columbus is mine for sponsoring the most city of Columbus communities. Sad. Sad.... also since I wrote this all but unless I repost it to my DiscoverColumbusOH.com it will be gone once someone with money and big ambitions notices they can sponsor three Columbus neighborhoods … (11 comments)

The NEW Localism top neighbor Has this always been there -the "How does this work?" (what is it two three weeks since the NEW Localism was introduced?) and I just never noticed it?  This link goes to Ohio Localism where I AM NOT the top neighbor!  I am sure your state has the same message about Top Neighbor.  That's Don Rogers from Missouri.  Link to his ActiveRain blog below...

Why do agents from outside an area answer questions? This example is from Trulia Voices.  The same thing happens on the ActiveRain site, I understand. Answering out of area questions for consumers. Why?
Trulia Voices Question and Answer:

ActiveRainers if your city is a featured City on R.com Neighborhoods (list below) did you look to see what R.com is telling the public about neighborhoods and pricing your your market?  Accurate?
Realtor.com Neighborhoods- Including a video about Neighborhoods.
I wondered why Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and Pittsburgh were not on the list of  "Featured Cities" on Realtor.com but one area with less than 3000 listings is.  If I may borrow a line from Sesame Street "One of these things is not like the others."
