village green: St. John's Church Worthington Ohio - 01/22/11 05:10 PM
The first service at St. John's Episcopal Church in Worthington Ohio was on January 23, 1831 according to the Worthington Memory Timeline. I found another source that says 1832 but let's believe the Worthington Memory / Worthington Historical Society. OK? 1831ish? Long, long ago. This photograph of St. John's Church was taken December 24, 2010. The post is about another anniversary for the historic Worthington Ohio church, first time the bell rang, December 24, 1833. Worthington (Ohio) Village Green is the way Don O'Brien identified his photo on FlickrO'Brien's photo from September 1941 of a Worthington Library Group makes me wonder if the Worthington Library was at that time the building facing the northeast quardrant of the Green. Of course it in Old Worthington Building Gets New Options I say it was built as a library in 1927 so it is not a stretch of the imagination that it could be a library a mere 14 years later. Pearl Harbor was attacked JFK was assasinated He referred to the Space Challenger Shuttle Disaster I thought at first I did not remember it. Trying to remember while writing this of course I remember living in Akron on January 28, 1986. Christa McAulife, the teacher was one of the crew. Judith Resnick the other female crew member was from Akron. I was not watching when

village green: Worthington mapping a magical place.... - 04/29/09 07:09 AM
Magic in Worthington? I am NOT a J.R.R. Tolkien fan... not that I have anything against them, I just never read any of the books. I saw and enjoyed on some levels the 'Lord of the Rings' movies but could not really follow them. The books by Tolkien had Elves, Hobbits, Trolls... and more... Here's a "Google Map" of Middle-Earth done by Daniel Reeve a fan. The maps as I understand them show where the Elves, Hobbits, Trolls etc. live. I have never thought of Worthington as a very whimsical place but Old Worthington has a Fairy Garden and there

village green: Worthington a part of the plan - 04/27/09 06:51 AM
Worthington Ohio was a planned community. The Ohio Historical Marker at 777 High Street in Worthington (the Griswold Center) says: " Worthington A Planned Community Based on a plan adopted by Scioto Company proprietors before their arrival in Ohio, Worthington was established following the New England model. The town formed a grid patter around a village green. Settlers were required to own at least one town lot and a rural tract for farming. Some setters were designated to operate the first tavern and sawmill. The church and school were assigned double lots on the square and tracts to farm for

village green: Worthington Good Friday Service - 04/09/09 09:32 AM
The quote in the shape of a cross on the sign on the Worthington Green is from George MacLeod (I had to Google him): "I simply argue that the cross be raised again at the centre of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church." The Village Green in Worthington remains a crossroad of Central Ohio with the intersection of State Route 161 (Dublin Granville Road) and State Route 23 (High Street) dividing the Village Green. Yearly Central Ohio Christians of many faiths meet at noon on Good Friday at this crossroads. Details

village green: Worthington's Chicken Leash Law - 03/22/09 10:34 AM
When Dawn in Hudson Ohio (NE Ohio) wrote of her "Urgent! Your Input Needed!": "I have a lovely family that needs to move into a larger home. They would like a property where they can raise chickens! I thought the problem was the chickens. I remember seeing chickens on a street corner on the west side of Columbus a couple of years ago. I have chickens on the brain. There was a chicken incident in a Worthington Ohio neighborhood recently. I am just barely aware of the chicken incident. A Worthington resident has pet chickens? A neighbor's dog attacked a
