Olympia Harbor Days 2012 This Weekend - 08/31/12 02:23 PM

The annual Harbor Days event in Olympia will be this coming weekend - August 31st - September 2nd, 2012.  This is always so much fun, since you can enjoy the waterfront and maritime tradition of this area, as well as craft booths, food, and plenty of people watching.

There will be plenty of tugboats moored at Percival Landing - both working boats and vintage ones.  On Saturday many of them will be open to tour - you know you can't resist pretending to captain that tug!  And don't miss the Tugboat Races!  Sunday at noon the … (0 comments)

Showing Waterfront Homes in the Sunshine - Oh Yeah, That Works!! - 08/29/12 07:49 PM
One of my favorite things about selling Olympia area real estate is that showing houses can be much closer to fun than work when you get to enjoy a great view on a sunshiny day!  So, this past weekend being out and about with some buyers, I got just a teeny bit sidetracked by the beauty of the scenery in front of us - and what is a blogger to do but dig for that camera and start getting some pictures?

I do always kid waterfront buyers that I can never, ever look at those kind of homes … (8 comments)

The Olympia Tour of Homes, put on by Olympia Master Builders, is always a great opportunity to check out some new and remodeled homes by some of the best builders and remodelers in our area.  The 2012 Olympia Tour of Homes began last weekend, and continues this coming weekend, August 25th & 26th.  Hours are from 11 AM until 5 PM both days, and the homes are in Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and Yelm.  Eleven of them are brand new construction and two are remodels - and energy efficiency is a key component.

Sand in the City 2012 - Olympia WA - 08/21/12 01:16 PM

Sand in the City is always one of my favorite Olympia area summer events!  The 2012 Sand in the City will be this coming weekend, August 25th & 26th, with Friday giving you a chance to watch the sand sculptors in action!  And this year's event is in a new location at the brand new Hands on Children's Museum (414 Jefferson St NE, Olympia's East Bay)- so you can get a sneak peek of the museum in advance of its official opening this fall.

Friday hours are 10-4; Saturday 10 - 7 and Sunday 10-5.  On … (2 comments)

Birthdays Are For Celebrating!! - 08/10/12 01:03 PM

Birthdays are for celebrating - and today our family is having fun celebrating my granddaughter's number five!  Looking at her excited little self I've been thinking about birthdays and how our perception of them changes over time.
When I was a child, I was also full of anticipation and almost too excited to wait for the big day!  Birthdays were full of balloons, friends, cake and candles - and yes, presents.  I remember feeling like I was the princess that day.
Then came all those years when I was eager to reach some milestone birthday - how exciting to … (8 comments)

I'll Choose One From Column A, One From Column B.... - 08/09/12 02:50 PM
During some recent showings, I was reminded yet again how hard it can be for buyers to accept that finding a home doesn't work quite like ordering off an ala carte menu.  Oh yes, it would be WAY simpler if you could choose the kitchen from House A, the master bedroom from House B, the yard from House C - and maybe the neighborhood of House D just for good measure.

But alas - the hard truth is that it can be really, really tough to find every bit of what you want in a house, plus the perfect … (8 comments)

Our Real Life Historical Novel Via Letters from a Cousin - 08/07/12 01:28 PM
When I wrote a letter to my cousin to let her know about the death of my Dad this past spring my only thought was that she would really want to know - and I just couldn't make any more phone calls.  But that one letter has spurred on a flurry of letters back and forth, and the unfolding of some family history that has been a huge unexpected gift to me, my brother and sister.
The cousin I wrote to is, I guess, a second cousin to us since she was Dad's first cousin (is that how it works??), and … (2 comments)

Pet Parade is an annual summer favorite in Olympia, and the 2012 event is coming up soon!  Saturday, August 18th at 10:00 AM, there will be a parade in the downtown Olympia streets.

A parade that features kids with pets of every type imaginable, kids with costumes, pets with costumes, kids on decorated bikes, kids with homemade "floats" - imagination on parade!

Parents are welcome to walk alongside their younger kids, and there are prizes in a huge variety of categories for the entrants.  The parade is free to participate in and free to come watch.  … (4 comments)

Olympia Area Pending Home Sales are Heating Up! - 08/06/12 11:23 AM
The August weather in the Olympia area has been downright HOT the last few days - and the pending home sales are heating up as well.  Just looking at the daily "hot sheets" of market changes on our NWMLS has had that fact on the periphery of my mind, since I'm seeing homes that I've recently shown go pending more and more frequently lately.  So I decided to really take a look at the statistics to see if my impressions were accurate.
Looking at just single family homes in the Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater area (that is, excluding condos and manufactured homes), and including … (0 comments)

Ahhhhh....Summertime in the Pacific Northwest! - 08/04/12 11:46 AM
Ahhhh, summertime in the Pacific Northwest!  Today's weather forecast says we may be right around the 90 degree mark, and since we started off the morning with sunshine galore, I think that is very, very likely.  Now I know that much of the country looks bright red and orange with heat on all the TV weather maps, while our little corner of the world has had more greenish tones - in keeping with the Evergreen State you know.
And most of June, we spent whining that we really NEEDED some sunshine and warm weather.  And that our tomatoes weren't growing and … (8 comments)

Creative Advertising in Olympia - 08/03/12 01:06 PM
I love seeing examples of advertising with a creative twist!  And driving through downtown Olympia the other day, this advertisement definitely caught my eye.  "Husband Day Care Center"....aka Hannah's Bar & Grille.  Could come in handy for those shopping trips that my female friends think are way fun - and my husband thinks are torture!

This was on the side of the Hannah's Bar & Grille building, and I not only chuckled as I read it, but actually drove around the block to read it again and get a picture!
Creative advertising - hmmmmm, how can I figure out … (2 comments)
