nature photos: Well, Look What WE Woke Up To!

The Olympia area weather forecasts had said that snow was a possibility - but I was still a little surprised to wake up this morning to a light, powdery white covering on our lawn, trees and shrubs.
Our Lab was beside herself with glee and had to race around the yard a few times before her regular morning walk - she LOVES snow!! Although it seems a little early for this wintery weather, I guess I get as excited about the first snow as my granddaughter does! So, so pretty - while it lasts! (12 comments)
We have had an unusually beautiful autumn in the Olympia WA area, with weather conditions apparently absolutely right to produce breathtaking leaves of red, gold and orange. Driving around and admiring these leaves has had me thinking about the value of appreciating both the temporary things and the more lasting. Colorful leaves soon fall off the trees and end up as brown sodden piles in the yards and streets - but that doesn't take away from the beauty they provide for a short period of time. Even though they are not forever, they are beautiful for a while. (10 comments)

In the midst of visiting with friends during a recent luncheon, one woman looked out the window and noticed this graceful presence on the beach below. As we hurried out on the deck to get a better look, I ran first to grab my camera...
What a perfect visual reminder that patience is important, and that the beauty of graceful balance is a mesmerizing sight. He finally did fly a bit further away - probably all of our excited chatter from the deck was spoiling his nice, peaceful visit to the beach! But I have this photo to (10 comments)
nature photos: Why I Drive REALLY Slow In My Driveway

Our driveway is a quarter of a mile long, and it's a pretty good idea to drive slowly up and down it because the dust from the gravel all seems to land on my car otherwise. But there is an even better reason why I take it slow and keep my eyes open....
We have had deer living around our property as long as we have lived there, and there are many days when I am less than a fan if I find they've been munching my veggie garden yet again. But how can I resist such a sweet little (14 comments)
