carteret county: North Carollina ( Finally ) Bans Texting while Driving 12-1-09 - 11/19/09 08:14 AM
Although teens have been banned from this practice for the last two years, the updated North Carolina law comes into effect December 1, 2009 prohibiting all drivers from texting while driving... Horray!
This has been a concern of mine for quite some time as I have been at close "call" with a driver not paying attention that nearly collided with me on the road traveling at 55 mph. Very scary.

As Tropical Storm Hanna exits Carteret County with her strong Tropical Storm winds ( up to 74 mph) and gusty rain bands...I am once again reminded how powerful nature can be and how it it necessary to plan ahead using the Hurrican Preparedness Kit I posted about last season. Along with wind and rain squawls we are warned of tornado threats. Yesterday water spouts/ funnels were reported in Carteret County. OK, first off this isn't a post about skin moles !
I have a pesky mole (critter ) in my newly sodded yard of our beach cottage!
We splurged this spring for new sod and an irrigation system....Great right ? Well yes for us- no more lugging hoses around but no for the problem it left us. Somehow a mole or mole family thought this was great housing and have moved in under our new lawn!

The East Carteret Mariners have held on and qualified for the playoffs!
Under the helm of new Head Coach Kemp Ewing, the ECHS Mariners have found success this season while rebuilding the program.
I am particularly hopeful for continued success during the playoffs as my son Beau, #33 , is a Senior and this prolongs his HS career! This week not only did we get to see victory against LeJeune (Jacksonville NC) but my husband and I were proud Senior Parents that walked on the field with our son on Senior Nite...

I took this lovely photo off my porch this week and thought how special of a place Morehead City really is! With a small population of nearly 8,000...I feel a sense of community when I step outside and I have a real interest in preservation of cultural tradition.

It is Atlantic Seaboard Hurricane Season
Having lived along the eastern shoreline my entire life I know that preparation is crucial during Hurricane Season. certainly there is a bit of procrastinator in all of us and well, we often think we wont be the ones targeted. Don't be absurd! I have been thru more than a dozen hurricanes in my life- some resulting in evacuation. I don't take risks and you shouldn't either. Storm are the most unpredictable natural occurrences and although technology has progressed to really target storm tracking..they aren't 100% accurate.

I can't think of anywhere else I would rather buy my summertime dessert than from The Guthrie Farm on Highway 24 at Guthrie Farm Rd , in Newport , NC ( Carteret County. ) The Guthrie Family ha been in produce for over 100 years and feel they have sunkissed soil that makes their crops even more delicious!
