localism: Carteret County Supports Local Fisheries - 07/29/07 06:50 PM
Carteret County is proud of the Community Supported Fisheries Project (CSF) which in my opinion is a fantastic way of giving back to our local fishermen. Living on the coast allows for year round fresh seafood and this project which is funded by the NC sea Grant allows participants of the CSF to sell direct to the consumer. Additionally, Local retail fish markets and fishhouses also participate making another grassroots organization a huge success. I am referring to Carteret Catch. Carteret Catch offers direct marketing of local fishermen and you can find their logo along roadside stands, fish markets and restaurant menus as well.

localism: How Many Light Bulbs Does It Take To Change "You" ? - 07/14/07 02:01 PM
Today while doing my reading online I stumbled on a few good sites that may motivate the way you spend your money...on energy star rated compact flourescent light bulbs. Good ole light-bulbs. I know long life bulbs are more expensive and essentially the ones I choose due to not needing to change as often, but what I didn't realize is the efficiency one bulbs provides and the Buck$$ I save by participating in conserving energy. Back on 7-7-07 LiveEarth gave a big boost for low energy bulbs...did you answer the call ? If not, why ? Stewardship begins at home. We pass on

localism: Carteret County Taxes the Best on the Coast! - 07/08/07 02:23 PM
Shhh...Carteret County may be the best kept secret when it come to tax rates! Our tax base is supported heavily by tourism and second home ownership. We are thankful for both.We also recognize that keeping the rate low allows many the opportunity to own real estate in Carteret County. With lower taxes, the opportunity allows for you to esentially get "more bang for the buck". Your monthly debt isn't chewed up with the higher tax rates found up and down the eastern seaboard. If you are considering real estate along the coast, please consider the Crystal Coast...and simply email or call

localism: I Hear the Sounds of Summer ! - 06/21/07 02:45 PM
" As the sun rises, so do the sounds of my summer...... " It is finally summer and I am so excited ! I for one enjoy warm weather and the activities that it allows. As I take the dogs for a walk today I am aware that my summer has familiar sounds and I got to thinking how each place I've lived offers its own "voice". When I was in Pennsylvania for example I would hear the cows of Menonite Farms up the way. The trolly train full of tourists visiting the university campus and horse hooves and wooden wheels of

localism: Buyers Remorse on Its Way ? - 06/20/07 06:37 PM
Buyers Remorse on its Way ??? Here in Eastern North Carolina we have seen the market slowly land to what I suspect (and hope) will be our soft bottom. Diference here is that we are a tourism based market and well, tourism is down. maybe it is the high gas prices, the rigid flight restrictions and heck, lets throw in the war and the election to make this post juicier! My point is that rates have started to creep. Stock market is doing well. Sellers have sliced so much they are beginning to bleed. Maybe NOW REALLY IS THE TIME TO BUY! Ask

localism: 1000-C E. Fort Macon Road, Atlantic BEach North Carolina - 03/18/07 02:59 PM
Atlantic Beach NC is such a great place to get away! Many, many, visitors to Carteret County are second home owners that jump in the car at the end of a hectic work week, hop on the highway and arrive at the Crystal Coast in a relatively short amount of time. The sea breeze and blue skies melt away the past weeks stresses and come Monday- batteries are recharged and it is just a quick trip back home. This is a common lifestyle for NC residents. Owning in Carteret County offer the best pricing on the coast, reasonable tax rates and

localism: Emerald Isle North Carolina - Family Oriented Communities - 02/07/07 02:18 PM
I love Emerald Isle. This island is what made me eventually live here full time. We purchase a beach cottage in Ocean Oaks many moons ago and spent many weekends unwinding in the sand and recharging for a busy work week. The kids were small at the time and we felt Emerald Isle provided activity sites as well as very clean beaches and friendly neighbors. Fast forward 12 yrs and we move to the mainland full time so I could " sell the place I love! " We still have the cottage and still enjoying long days on the beach with our toes in the sand! Today

localism: Winterizing your Vacant Home/ Second Home on the Coast - 10/26/06 03:55 PM
Preparing for upcoming Winter Months : Hire a Plumber to assist with draining the plumbing and winterizing in freezing climates. If there is a pool- now is the time to shut down pumps and treat lines for winter.Empty and clean the Refrigerator, unplug and prop door open to ventilate. Empty cabinets with opened food containers (like chips and dog food) Unplug appliances. (for power shortages and surges that may occur when power restores)Turn off the gas (propane and natural).Closing blinds or curtains and putting lamps on a timer is wise to appear someone is caring for home Keep doors locked

localism: Contingencies in your MLS - 09/27/06 10:10 AM
Here in Carteret County if we have a contingent offer (ie 72 hr kick out clause) it still shows pending with a "Y" for continue to show. Some agent go overboard and do this with all contract contingencies- like loan, inspections etc. most agents tend to overlook these homes as a disservice to their buyer and if a seller accepts a contingency they may be putting that noose around their neck. My recent experience is this- I had a home on mkt with a 72 hr kick out- buyer has a home locally in a neighborhood still under construction. The problem was
