Today’s mail brought a message from Wendy Weiss, “The Queen of Cold Calling.” She wrote that many sales people tell her that they do not sell. They don’t want to be labeled as sales people.
Why? Because the connotation (to them) is negative. It speaks of manipulation, dishonesty, and lack of ethics.
She disagrees, and went on to say that she had looked up the word “sell” along with variations on the word “salesman.” All of the definitions she found spoke of persuasion. For instance, “Sales talk” was defined as “a line of reasoning or argument intended to persuade someone to buy something.”

Sometimes the best conversation is silence...
Agents sometimes get in the way. They get in the way of a deal, or in the way during negotiations, or simply in the way of communications. I had a buyer tell me yesterday that they appreciated the fact that after we walked into a home they wanted to see, I did not hang right with them. For about the past week I’ve been following a discussion on Copy Blogger – a blog where copywriters hash over various aspects of our business.
This discussion started with a post entitled “Why James Chartrand Wears Women’s Underpants,” and the last time I looked, it had 528 comments.
Obviously, the subject matter hit a nerve with a whole lot of people.
The essence of this post was that James is not really James. She’s a woman who was struggling to provide for her children and was making a dismal income writing as a woman. So she “became” a man.
