The Biggest Sale I Ever Made - 09/22/09 04:09 PM
Recently I received an email that touched my heart - and brought back memories of some very special clients. A few years ago, I spent 5 days in the fall showing property to a young married couple who wanted to buy a vacation home in our mountains. On Saturday morning I faced every working mother's worst nightmare - a conflict left me with no babysitter for my daughter Dani, then 7 years old, and a full schedule of properties to view. I had never taken one of my children along on an appointment before but I wasn't comfortable leaving a child that (101 comments)

When you think of gold fever, Murphy, North Carolina probably isn't the first place that comes to mind. But ever since the 1500's when Hernando De Soto became the first Florida tourist to venture into these mountains, there have been rumors of gold being discovered in the Valley River. Sign in downtown Murphy When I first moved to the Murphy area, I bought 20 acres of land which included about 1,000 feet on the Valley River in Marble, NC. As we met the neighbors, they shared stories of their grandpa's neighbor or their great uncle's best friend finding a gold (4 comments)
Autumn has always been my favorite season and now that I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina I've found even more reasons to enjoy this time of the year. I'm no David Letterman, but here's my Top Ten list: 1. Fall Color Tours - I thought nothing could top the show in Northern Michigan where I lived for many years, but watching the sun set over a deep blue lake surrounded by endless mountains in every shade of russet and gold takes my breath away. And with our mild climate, the show starts in mid-September at the higher elevations and (0 comments)

Doing My ActiveRain Homework Pays Off - 09/15/09 11:33 AM
It's a rainy day and what better way to spend it than in the 'Rain? I spent time this morning cleaning up my emails and going back to read through a few of my bookmarked posts - mostly from July when I was on vacation. There's such a wealth of information coming to us nonstop it's almost overwhelming at times to keep up with the newest tips, learn how to do the tech stuff, post to my blog...and oh yeah, sell real estate too. But I found some great reference material that I'm glad I saved. Margaret Woda wrote about One Activerain Post That (6 comments)

Hurricanes? Blizzards? Not in the Mountains of Murphy, North Carolina - 09/05/09 01:44 PM
With so many of our residents coming from Florida, there's a great deal of interest in hurricane tracking here in Murphy, North Carolina this time of the year. Most of us have relatives and friends in the Sunshine state, some of us still have homes there. And those of us who live here full time now, the "half-backs" (or "Floridiots" as a few of the locals call us) give thanks that the days of nailing plywood over our windows and the nights of watching Weather Channel updates are over. One of the joys of living in these southern (0 comments)
