cherokee county nc: Cherokee County's Purchase of the Cornerstone Building in Murphy North Carolina - Is This $1.35 Million Transaction Voidable By Taxpayers? - 09/26/10 01:19 PM
A controversial spending spree by 3 lame duck County Commissioners in their last months in office has incensed some taxpayers in Murphy North Carolina and Cherokee County. After attending the September 7 meeting of the County Commissioners, I did some research into their purchase of the foreclosed Cornerstone Building on Hwy 64 West in MUrphy on August 13, 2010 for $1,350,000. I found numerous questionable issues, which I detailed in my last post What REALLY Went On When Cherokee County Commissioners Purchased the Foreclosed Cornerstone Building in Murphy North Carolina for Over $1.3 Million on August 13, 2010? cherokee county nc: What REALLY Went On When Cherokee County Commissioners Bought Foreclosed Cornerstone Building in Murphy North Carolina for Over $1.3 Million on August 13, 2010? - 09/25/10 01:50 PM
Controversy over the purchase of the Cornerstone Building in Murphy North Carolina by 3 lame duck county commissioners has monopolized both meetings of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners this month. Their decision to quickly purchase the foreclosed building from Unity Community Bank for the full asking price of $1,350,000 was questioned by a room full of concerned taxpayers. I attended the first meeting on September 7 and what I heard led me to do some research into the details of this transaction. After going to the County Manager, the county's financial officer and the County Attorney, I finally obtained the documents that I requested

cherokee county nc: Hurricanes? Blizzards? Not in the Mountains of Murphy, North Carolina - 09/05/09 01:44 PM
With so many of our residents coming from Florida, there's a great deal of interest in hurricane tracking here in Murphy, North Carolina this time of the year. Most of us have relatives and friends in the Sunshine state, some of us still have homes there. And those of us who live here full time now, the "half-backs" (or "Floridiots" as a few of the locals call us) give thanks that the days of nailing plywood over our windows and the nights of watching Weather Channel updates are over. One of the joys of living in these southern

cherokee county nc: Moving to the Mountains in Murphy, North Carolina - Part 5 of 5: Our Lakes Don't Have Alligators! Five More Reasons to Move to Murphy - 08/26/09 03:40 PM
1."I like it here. Your lakes don't have alligators!" Testimonial on why she wants to move to North Carolina from Sammi Dietrich, age 8. Sammi and her sister Lexi were our guests at a cookout recently. As Sammi roasted marshmallows over an open fire and tasted her first s'mores, we talked about her family's plan to move to North Carolina. I believe that secretly, many adults love living here in the mountains for the same reason. Our wildlife doesn't usually eat our residents. 2. Four seasons of mild weather I've lived and traveled all over the country and this Southern tip

cherokee county nc: Orbs at Night in the Mountains of Murphy, North Carolina - 08/26/09 02:35 PM
What are these strange glowing circles that appear in photos at night? Ever since I moved to Murphy, North Carolina, orbs have appeared in some of the casual photos my family has taken. I've done a little Internet research but no one seems to know for sure what causes this phenomenon to occur. Some say they are dust specks on the camera lens, some say they are spirits manifesting themselves, some say they are a form of energy we have yet to realize co-exists with us here on Earth. All I know is that these 2 pictures

cherokee county nc: A View To Die For - 07/31/09 10:35 AM
One of the joys of living in the mountains of Murphy, NC is the ever-changing view. With four colorful seasons, watching the sun move across the hills or seeing the moon rise over the peaks is better than anything on TV. But those incredible mountain views aren't always a gift of Mother Nature. Sometimes a little help is needed. And that help comes in the form of some of the most courageous, hardworking people I've ever seen - the men who climb to the heights to clear that view. Sorry ladies, I don't mean to be sexist but so far I've
