A real estate scam that stretched from Florida to California is being investigated by the FBI with documents provided by a Murphy North Carolina business owner who uncovered the fraudulent transactions.
Sheridan Snyder, owner of Matrix Title Solutions Inc. in Murphy North Carolina, has reviewed the paperwork on thousands of real estate deed transfers over the years.  So when she found inconsistencies in documents from all over the country on deed transfers she had been contracted to handle for the Florida-based United Capital Group a few months ago, she contacted the company immediately.

I didn't need the calendar to tell me it was December 1st this morning.  A look out the window at a dusting of snowflakes on the deck was all it took to get me in the mood for Christmas here in the mountains of Murphy North Carolina.
This is the earliest snowfall I've seen on the mountain peaks since I moved to Murphy 8 years ago. 
Our first year here, Santa delivered snow on Christmas morning for our daughter, born on a tropical island in the South China Sea.

According to a news release today, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians approved a resolution to fund the purchase of approximately 800 acres in the Marble area of Cherokee County.  The Tribe will spend $6.4 million for a total of 7 parcels of land including frontage on Hwy 19/74 just west of Murphy, North Carolina.  A new Class II gaming facility could be up and running in the Western North Carolina mountains as early as next year.

According to the headline in today's Cherokee Scout, Cherokee County, North Carolina is now one step closer to having legal gambling.  Last week, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Council approved a resolution to study the feasibility of establishing a Class II gaming facility near Murphy, North Carolina.
The Eastern Band is one of the largest landholders in the county, with 5,367 acres, including a large parcel of land near Western Carolina Regional Airport and 1,203 acres off US19 near Walmart.  Harrah's Cherokee Casino, about 45 miles away from Murphy, is one of the largest employers in western North Carolina and draws more than 3.5 … (7 comments)

   We woke up to a winter wonderland here in the mountains of Murphy, North Carolina!   
This is the earliest snow I've seen since I moved to the mountains.  Just enough to dust all the evergreens with a touch of white before sunrise - and just in time for today's Christmas parade downtown. It sure puts everyone in the holiday mood. 
I'm heading home to curl up by the fire with a good book and a cup of cocoa...tomorrow it will be in the mid-50's and this snow will be just a memory.  And that's what I love about living here in the Southern … (5 comments)
