People now flock to visit this natural treasure which is now open to the public. And it’s not just people from around the state of Georgia either. I have seen license plates from many states and Canada in the park since opening day.
Chattahoochee Bend State Park is not just an amenity. It will now play a major role in the future of the county.

I once had a seller tell me that he wanted to move away from Coweta County because: “there: is nothing here!”
I asked him to explain and he said that there were no beaches or mountains or other geographical or geological features that sets Coweta County apart from anywhere else.
It is true that we don’t have the seaside aura of Cape Cod or the ski slopes of Vail. At one time, Coweta County Georgia was the fastest growing county in the entire United States. But the nearly uncontrolled explosive development threatened the rural character of the former bedroom community, now a suburb of Atlanta.
When the earth movers ceased their incessant drone in late 2006, the days of the great land grab ended. And acreage as a commodity was no longer traded.
So at least for now, I can drive a few short miles and be a totally different world, devoid of sprawl and in essentially the same state as it was fifty years ago.

Although Coweta County Georgia is in the metro Atlanta region, it still radiates a wonderful rural character and ambience while enjoying all of the accoutrements of modern urban living.
You are as likely to see a national chain restaurant or retail store as you are a pasture rife with livestock. So deciding to take a drive out in the “country” could be as easy as turning in the opposite direction.
The county enjoys low property taxes but still offers full time police, fire, and paramedic services. And all county schools have free bus service for all grades through high school.

Geographically speaking, my hometown offers nothing remarkable or out of the ordinary. There is no beachfront with crashing waves or tall peaks with mountaintop views. It is rarely a vacation destination, unless someone has family in the County.
But what makes my hometown one of the best places to live in Georgia is the people who live here, and the great spirit of community that allows our ever-expanding county to retain its small-town charm.

Coweta County Georgia really enjoys the best of all worlds. As a bedroom community of Atlanta, it features all of the modern amenities and conveniences that a large metropolitan area has to offer. Nearly every National chain has a store in Newnan.
And yet the downtown area retains its historic charm, with locally owned shops and restaurants. It's a nice change of pace from the big box stores and large franchises.

Just south of downtown Newnan is the cities' newest park! Having just opened to the public in the Spring of 2008, Greenville Street Par is fast becoming one of Newnan's most popular urban destinations.

Coweta County Georgia is still dotted with farms and ranches of all sizes. And although the dirt and gravel roads in the outlying areas are slowly giving way to the encroachment of development, there are still pockets of the past preserving the counties agrarian roots.

The James E. McGuffey Nature Center is located in the Coweta County Fairgrounds complex, south of Newnan. The Nature Center offers both educational and recreation opportunities for visitors.
