ga: Dixieland Fun Park in Fayetteville Georgia opens the 2009 Season with new rides, new rates, and a new look! - 04/04/09 10:00 PM
Dixieland Fun Park has been a favorite playground for south metro Atlanta area families since 1990! And the park has grown from humble beginnings into a full fledged theme park, with over twenty rides and attractions, and exciting and entertaining shows.
But the big news for the 2009 season is an all new daily use pricing structure. Dixieland has inaugurated a new all day admission fee that allows visitors to enjoy nearly all of the rides an unlimited amount of times during each visit.
Individual ride tickets have become a thing of the past so there is no more rationing or … (9 comments)

ga: Voter turnout in Sharpsburg Georgia is extremely heavy. - 11/04/08 01:36 PM
The voter turnout at the A.O. Bridges Community Center in Sharpsburg was extremely heavy in Tuesday's general election! Area voters filled parking lots and grassy area throughout the city and queued up to wait for an opportunity to cast their ballots.
The long wait was mitigated by the glory of a gorgeous fall day, with bright warm sunshine dancing off of the beautifully colored leaves. The crowd was patient and orderly.
Other area voting precincts also reported much higher than average voter turnout. The interest of the electorate in this election is being demonstrated throughout Georgia as well. The polls are … (28 comments)

If you enjoy Americana at it finest, then Newnan Georgia should be on your short list of places to consider for relocation.
Newnan is the County Seat of Coweta County, Georgia, and it is known as the "City of Homes." During the civil war, General William Tecumseh Sherman did not pass through Newnan, so many of its antebellum homes survive to this day!
Newnan still offers a downtown square that features shopping, restaurants, and lots of antique and crafts marts interspersed between the offices offering every sort of professional services. There is still a county fair each year at the county … (13 comments)

ga: Helen Georgia, an Alpine vacation destination in the North Georgia Mountains! - 07/18/08 06:19 AM
One of North Georgia's most popular tourist destinations is the Alpine Village of Helen.  Although the Bavarian façade of the town is relatively new, the history of the area is long and diverse.
The ancient Mississippians who inhabited these lands gave way to the Cherokee Nation, who settled these rich valleys in the sixteenth century. There are still burial mounds visible in the region.  However, European settlers desired the fertile farmlands of the mountain valleys and eventually removed the Cherokees. The local economy became one of agriculture and timber harvesting.
As the timber was depleted, landowners in the Nacoochee Valley area … (12 comments)

ga: Kitten Update ... Little Peyton is doing just fine! Visit the Coweta County Animal Shelter today! - 07/15/08 07:32 AM
Last week I reported that we had adopted a little kitten at the Coweta County Animal Shelter. A life saved ... Just in the nick of time! I am happy to tell you that little Peyton is doing just fine after a trip to the vet and a little medical treatment.
While it is impossible to save every animal from euthanasia, it is important to understand what the animal control officers deal with on a daily basis. It's not just animals that are lost, unruly or mistreated. It is also animals that just happened to be born because a pet owner … (20 comments)

ga: Gardening green ... it's more than not using pesticide! - 07/12/08 09:33 PM
When planning a landscape design for your home, selecting the proper plant material from the very beginning can save a lot of aggravation and resources down the road. Most gardening issues arise from initially having the wrong plants for a given climate, and not from pests.
First of all, use species of indigenous plants when possible. Indigenous plants have already adapted to the conditions in your eco-zone, and generally require very little in the way of chemical fertilizers or pest control.
While some exotics seem desirable, it can be a constant struggle for the gardener to ensure survival. Exotics may require … (15 comments)

ga: Old Town Sharpsburg Georgia! - 07/05/08 10:22 PM
Nestled in the middle of Atlanta's suburban sprawl, Old Town Sharpsburg Georgia has an interesting collection of historic buildings that allow us to imagine what the town must have looked like in times past.
During the heyday of cotton, Sharpsburg was an important center for farmers who wanted to get their crops to market. In the 19th century, Sharpsburg had merchants and all sorts of service businesses.
More importantly, in 1870, the Savannah, Griffin & North Alabama Railroad was completed and more importantantly, constructed a depot in Sharpsburg. This brought everything the farmers needed in the form of merchandise and implements, as well … (7 comments)

ga: Country Music Legend Alan Jackson comes back to Newnan Georgia for book signing at Scott's Bookstore - 04/29/08 07:42 PM
Country Music Superstar Alan Jackson returned to his hometown, Newnan Georgia, on Tuesday April 29 to sign autographs of music CD's and his wife, Denise Jackson's latest book: "It's All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life."
The line extended out the door of downtown's Scott's Book Store and down the street, as friends and fans waited up to two hours to spend a few seconds with Newnan's most famous native son.
Alan and Denise were as cordial and friendly as could be under the circumstances, as they tried to accomodate everyone's desire for autographs and photos.
However, the weather was nearly … (8 comments)

ga: What is "Non - judicial" foreclosure? - 04/03/08 03:57 PM
I have written a few posts lately about a property here in Georgia that went to the courthouse steps on Tuesday. I was aware that the foreclosure process was different is most states, and here in Georgia we typically have non-judicial foreclosure.
What that essentially boils down to is this:
1) The lender sends the borrower a notice that they are in default, and the foreclosure process is started.
2) The property is advertised in the legal organ of the county for four weeks, prior to the first Tuesday of the following month. During this time, the borrow may cure the … (7 comments)

ga: Glorious, it doesn't get any better than this! - 03/20/08 08:38 PM
It was a perfect day in Newnan, Georgia. Yes, it is indeed the first day of Spring, but that is an arbitrary word assigned to the day during which a specific astronomical event occurs. But that in itself, did not make the day perfect. No, it was a perfectly crisp, cool and clear day following rainstorms that cleansed the air of particulates and pollution! The sun shone gloriously, and late in the afternoon, I turned off the computer, left the office, and headed for downtown Newnan.
I am, after all, a photography buff. When you love photography, you learn to sense when the … (9 comments)

ga: Still Raining, Still Dreaming ... - 03/19/08 02:34 PM
It's raining here in Newnan Georgia. During most Springs of the past, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Spring is traditionally wet in our area, and Spring showers are part of the fabric of life here.

But last year was not a typical year. It did not rain much in the Spring, and even less in the summer, taking us into the worst drought we have experienced in a hundred years. The lakes were at an all-time low, and the news constantly reminded us that we only had about 45 days worth of water left.

Municipalities began quarreling … (7 comments)

ga: I'm an auctioneer that usually talks sellers out of Auction! - 03/17/08 10:08 PM
Yes Indeed. Sounds strange, but it's true.It isn't that I don't believe in auction as an aggressive and wonderful marketing tool for selling real estate, it's just that the market has changed and there are many reasons that auction won't work today.
The number one reason is competition from bank foreclosures and other REO properties. They offer great terms, and bargain prices. Unfortunately. most sellers look at auction as a last resort, and wait until the property is stale before putting it on the auction block!
Auctions are expensive and time consuming, and we are not in the business to lose money. Here's … (15 comments)

ga: What happened to foreclosures on the courthouse steps? - 03/05/08 09:30 PM
In Coweta County and every other county in the state of Georgia, on the first Tuesday of every month promptly  at 10 A.M. the foreclosure auctions begin. These auction take place literally on the courthouse steps, rain or shine, and the lawyers read every word of the notices before selling the property "at public outcry to the highest bidder." It's a process that has been going on as long as I can remember.
On Tuesday, in the pouring rain I went to the steps to see what was going on in Coweta County. There were 10 full pages of foreclosure notices … (7 comments)
