inspiration: Notes from a Smoky Mountain Daydreamer! - 02/23/13 10:21 PM
To walk the weather beaten trace.
‘Cross rushing stream, past rocky face,
The woes of worldly stress dismissed
And melt away into the mist!
    (R Weisser 2013)
I have made many trips to my beloved Smoky Mountains. There was a time when I would hop into the car and make the 500 mile round trip just to get away for the day.
Unfortunately, the rigors of the long drive combined with a strenuous hike have reduced the number of trips that I can physically make as each passing year takes its toll.
But after so many of these excursions my assemblage of memories … (7 comments)

inspiration: Just what color is a cloud? - 05/19/12 10:36 PM
Explosions edged in blue and white,Or gilded fronds of pink twilight,A storm looms as a blackened shroud,Just what color is a cloud?                    (R Weisser 2012)
Sometimes we have to look beyond the obvious. What at first glance may be basic and ordinary, could in fact be something that is very dynamic and complex.
The canvas of life is repainted every day. Nothing today is exactly like it was yesterday. We can choose to either appreciate the difference or ignore it.
As for me, I enjoy the simple things in life. And while … (7 comments)

inspiration: Tumbling along the watercourse of life! - 04/15/12 12:18 AM
In tumbling, splashing cataracts,O’re boulders flocked in velvet dress,The ancient sculptor carves the trackYet never finished, never rests!                  (R Weisser 2012)
Life is always a work in progress.  And despite careful planning and diligent efforts, things can often go awry without a moment’s notice.
These trials can test the mettle of even the most stalwart soul. No one is immune from adversity.
There are many things in life that we cannot control. But we can take charge of our own response to these less than desirable circumstances.
And that is the true definition … (4 comments)

inspiration: Spring pushes forth new life! - 03/03/12 10:09 PM
Awake, from sleeping root push forthTo beckon famished apian swarms‘Tis Spring’s first industry of growthThat bursts from rock as Nature’s host!                         (R Weisser 2012)
It’s THAT time of year again. The time when the earth warms enough to force the earliest blooms to open and face the sunlight before the canopy of leaves prohibit them for completing their reproduction cycles.
I often marvel at how delicate and fragile these earliest flowers are. Springtime conditions provide a harsh environment and the plants will only bloom a short time.
And while you … (12 comments)

inspiration: It’s time to emerge from hibernation and to get out and get things done! - 02/25/12 09:55 PM

Climate is as much a part oaf any locale as any other attribute. Weather affects everything from industry to attitude, and especially lifestyle.
In Georgia, late Winter and early Spring offers cool nights and moderate to warm days.
It’s a great time of year to get outside and do yard chores and landscaping projects.
There are few annoying insects and still some time for plants to … (10 comments)

As the last leaves succumb to the rake, it’s hard to believe that the holidays are already upon us. The transition from Fall to the holiday season is always an easy one. It is a delightful albeit often a bittersweet passage.
There are plenty of activities to plan and lots to be done in anticipation of the upcoming festivities.
Every year it seems that there … (19 comments)

inspiration: Taking comfort from the little things around us! - 08/21/11 01:55 AM
I have to admit that I am a “small world” kind of man. I never feel the urge to travel the world far and wide in order to see exotic sights and distant places.
That’s because I have plenty to see and experience right here in my own locale. Over the years I have become accustomed to “seeing” things that others may be overlooking.
Many would dismiss the tiniest wildflowers as weeds, but every plant flowers at some point and a careful eye can discern the rare elegance of the tiny blooms.
I don’t need to travel the world to see … (8 comments)

inspiration: Even Mountains are Temporary! - 08/07/11 01:16 AM
Thrust upwards by the great continental collision, the Appalachian Mountains are believed to be the oldest in the word.
And at one time, they were the tallest mountains as well. But even mountains are temporary. Over millions of years of freezing and thawing and wind and rain they eventually erode away.
Our lives are but a blink of an eye in the passage of time. And we cannot remain on top of anything forever. There are constant forces tearing away at us that will eventually bring us down.
But that doesn’t mean that we can’t stand tall for now! By doing … (14 comments)

inspiration: Going against the flow. It isn’t easy but it can be done! - 07/27/11 12:49 AM
There are many times in the real estate business when we feel like we are paddling upstream against a swift current. No matter how hard we toil, the resistance of the flowing water holds us back and it seems that we are not getting anywhere.
But the point is that it CAN be done. It may take a more time and LOT more effort, but we can prevail and eventually reach our goal.
The important thing to remember is that we must NEVER stop pressing forward, because if we do, we will backslide and lose any precious gains we have made. … (21 comments)

inspiration: Enjoying the last cool breezes of the Spring on the first Sunday in May! - 05/01/11 01:49 AM
As I am writing this, I am sitting outside on the deck, enjoying what will probably be some of the last cool breezes of the Spring.
I suspect that we are going to have another hot Summer here in Newnan, because we have already had some afternoons pushing 90 degrees, and that was hot for April! Now that May is here, pleasant and cool mornings will slowly erode and we’ll have to wait until October for them to return.
A cool breeze combined with a hot cup of coffee is a pleasure that cannot be described by mere words. It is … (15 comments)

inspiration: Some Easter thoughts on a warm Southern morning! - 04/24/11 12:53 AM

It’s Sunday Morning, and I have a few thoughts before I get down to the business of preparing Easter dinner.
First of all, Easter is very late this year. As a matter of fact, the latest possible date for Easter Sunday is April 25 so it is just about as late as it can be.
What that means to us in the South is that our azaleas and dogwoods are past bloom, and the landscape is more of an early summer theme than a Spring one. And it’s going to be hot today, with temperatures pushing 80 degrees.
Easter will … (20 comments)

inspiration: Soaring above the rest is 10% inspiration and 90% attitude! - 11/28/10 12:31 AM
Inspiration can come from any source at any time. Life is rife with those special moments that lift our spirits and press us forward.
But there is an element of attitude interwoven into the fabric of inspiration. We can only be uplifted if we face each day with a positive frame of mind that is open to encouragement.
If we seek inspiration, it is there for us to find. Motivation, on the other hand, comes from deep within and positive results demand deliberate action.
If we continually clad ourselves in positivity, we will not require additional inspiration.
Rather, we will be … (39 comments)

inspiration: Solitude is the reward for the early riser! - 07/03/10 12:59 AM
I am a morning person. I always wake up without the benefit of an alarm clock, and I can’t wait to get up out of bed.
It’s a special time of day for me. I can sit outside with a cup of coffee and enjoy the temperate air before the oppressive heat of the Southern Summer erupts.
It is a quiet and calming solitude, interrupted only by the calls of the birds and the rustlings of small creatures as they either start their day of foraging, or if they are nocturnal, return to their lairs for the day.
I don’t think … (32 comments)

inspiration: Some days I just feel like I'm blessed. I'm busy and life is topsy-turvy but inspiration comes early in the morning! - 06/10/09 11:33 PM
I am an early riser. I usually can't wait to get up out of bed to start a new day. As a matter of fact, many times when I awaken at 3:00 A.M., I am disappointed because it's not time to "get up" yet.
My brain is always bursting with new ideas. There are things that I would love to try, experiments to perform, and strategies to implement. Each day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity.
The time between watching the sunrise and getting ready to go to the office is my time for ingenuity and expression. I feel … (27 comments)

inspiration: Inspiration comes in many sizes, shapes and colors. - 03/26/09 11:50 AM
Plumage wafts o'er blades of greenFrail feathers float on tufts unseenTo dance on breezy vernal streamsA pastel petaled font of dreams.                                     (R Weisser)
Sometimes inspiration comes from simple things. A color, a fragrance, or even a taste can be the source of a great idea for a recipe, or a new product, or even a great literary work.
But inspiration without motivation falls short of invention. It is not enough to be inspired; action is required to set the wheels of creation in motion.
So when the Muses stir the soul, keep in mind that passivity is the damper of passion.

inspiration: There is a slight calm during the storm, but keep an eye on the horizon! - 12/14/08 11:18 PM
As we approach the winter solstice, and we absorb the fact that the calendar is waning down to nothing, it is time to both reflect on the year past and to plan ahead for the new year ahead.
And although there are early signs that the storm is calming, there is yet plenty of rough weather lying before us. As a defense against the raging market elements, some will seek the warmer climes of the steady paycheck. Others will take refuge in other pursuits.
But those that remain and weather the storm will emerge stronger, more confident and more defiant. And … (29 comments)

inspiration: The painting that started it all! Sometimes, a little magic goes a long way! - 10/27/08 10:23 AM
I have written before about my love for watercolor painting. It's a nice diversion and something I really enjoy doing. Although I don't get a chance to do it as often as I like, I enjoy the rare opportunities for creativity when inspiration strikes.
But I never got serious about it until I did the painting depicted in this article. No, I was not a child at the time, but a twenty-five year old man. I did not have expensive artist materials, just plain paper and those inexpensive watercolors in the little tray.
But I wanted to depict a simple impression … (34 comments)

inspiration: Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship ... - 10/25/08 12:27 PM
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heelsTo be wanderin'.I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fadeInto my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,I promise to go under it.
(Bob Dylan - Mr. Tambourine Man)
As I watched some autumn leaves swirling in a whirlpool in a mountain stream. I was transfixed by the simple circular motion accompanied by the sound of small cascades of rivulets meandering through the ancient boulders.
It is an ancient ritual. The deciduous trees shed their coverlets in … (26 comments)

inspiration: Seek inspiration and run with it! Tomorrow is another day but today is even better! - 10/08/08 12:05 AM
Inspiration comes from a variety of stimuli. The slightest nuance of visual beauty, constructive encouragement or vicarious reading can motivate us to take quick and decisive action.
However, to be inspired, the spirit within us must react to the stimulus in a positive and uplifting manner. No one has ever been inspired and depressed at the same time.
And don't wait to be knocked off your horse and blinded by lightning. Inspirational opportunities can be subtle, and easily overlooked. Rather, remain open and at the ready, and grasp tightly to the fleeting force as it presents itself.
Great men and women … (30 comments)
