responsibility: Governing the power of words. - 09/08/12 10:26 PM
The Wordsmith stokes and pumps the bellows,‘Til hot coals glow in reds and yellows. The sledge struck iron twists and bends. To forge the piece the smith intends!

Words are powerful. A well crafted sentence can stir passion, emotion, revulsion or exhilaration.
And since words can incite and inflame, it is incumbent upon the wordsmith to exercise self-control and responsibility.
Even the most open mind resists coercion, and a forced opinion is likely to trigger a barrage of defensive rebukes. No shouting match has EVER changed anyone’s opinion about anything.
Calm, rational debate does … (27 comments)

responsibility: Sometimes we go through “H...E…double hockey sticks” to get the job done - 07/16/11 12:58 AM
I met a home inspector at a foreclosed property yesterday afternoon. When I opened the front door to let him in, I was nearly knocked over by a blast of hot air.
Now I live in the South, and it’s been a hot Summer, so it is not unusual for a vacant house to be pretty warm inside. But this house was more like a furnace.
As a matter of fact, the home inspector was standing by his truck in the driveway and he said that he felt the heat rush past him too!
As it turned out, both the furnace … (47 comments)

responsibility: “With great power comes great responsibility.” - 06/23/11 12:16 AM
Although I am far from being a Luddite, I am still constantly amazed at the progress of technology over the last twenty years and the effect that the Internet has had on everyday life.
And the Internet is NOT a one-way street in which users can access a gargantuan repository of data.
Individuals are now endowed the power to disseminate any information they wish with the push of a single button.
But with “great power comes great responsibility.” Just because you “can” doesn’t mean that you “should.” The archive of human civilization is already overloaded with inaccuracies, fallacies, and other meaningless … (20 comments)

responsibility: Where do we go from here? It is really up to us! - 04/03/11 01:41 AM
There are times when looking back is counter-productive. A lot of time can be wasted placing blame or pointing fingers.
And it really doesn’t matter how we got to where we are. Even when mistakes have been made or there have been failures in the system, the big question is:
Where do we go from here? Energy should be directed towards events which can be affected rather than wasted on rewriting history. Destiny is within our control if we choose to accept the responsibility of owning it!
Everything does NOT happen for a reason. Fate is self-directed and completely changeable. The … (23 comments)

responsibility: “Yes I know that we made a mistake. But YOU need to fix it because you’re the only one that cares.” - 03/15/11 01:51 AM
It seems like every day I am encountering more and more problems that result from the mistakes of others that I am expected to resolve.
I hear the line “you want it to close, don’t you?” a lot more often than I should. And the fact is, there is a simple truth surrounding this phenomenon. People that are incompetent KNOW that others that are responsible and diligent will indeed clean up their mess.
As a result the less than efficient parties in a transaction are conditioned to ignore their responsibilities completely immersed in the comfort of the fact that someone else … (68 comments)

responsibility: Christmas is here, and I'm not ready! Now what do I do? - 12/24/08 08:38 AM
OK, the big day is finally upon us. For over a month now it's been parties, activities and general revelry but now the grim reality is upon us. Christmas is here and we suddenly realize that we have forgotten, neglected or just plain ran out of time to do all of the things that we really wanted to do this year.
Now think about it. I mean really think about it. How many days since Thanksgiving did you say to yourself "I need to do this or that" and well-intentioned as you were, you just never actually got around to doing … (23 comments)
