time management: Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines! Seems that there are so many these days! - 12/09/09 10:50 PM
It seems that my world is controlled by deadlines. Of course, you expect that in the real estate business. After all, “time is of the essence” and it is an inherent necessity in moving a transaction along.
Then there are the bills to be paid. And although I have always paid promptly, the penalties for late payment have become more severe these days, with merchants and vendors trying to maintain a constant flow of cash.
Not to mention the laundry list of household and garden chores that have to be completed within a specified time before “aunt Mary arrives” or “while … (20 comments)

time management: Are you committed to the day? I am, because I have to find a job today! - 05/19/09 12:04 AM
One of the main reasons I obtained a real estate license in 1984 was the notion of "being your own boss, and setting your own hours." How marvelously appealing is the thought that you are obliged to no one but yourself ...and the day!
And yet, since I have the ability to set own work schedule, I am also forced to be the only one to dedicate myself to the reality of making a living, and I have the sole responsibility for the success or failure of my business.
And so, I commit myself to the DAY! I rise out of … (107 comments)

time management: Wow! I lost five minutes of my life and I'll never get them back! - 05/09/09 12:25 AM
I have had the feeling all week that I had lost something. I couldn't quite put my finger on it but there was this nagging undercurrent of deprivation that permeated my psyche.
And then this morning, the disturbance in my force became apparent. I was running a little late with my morning post, which I normally try to publish at 8:00 EDST. The clock on my computer said that I had five minutes left to do so.
And then in the background, I heard that little pinging chiming sound that alerts viewers that Sportscenter on ESPN is restarting.
What??? Sportscenter recycles … (32 comments)

time management: The days are supposed to be longer, so why am I running out of time? - 03/17/09 12:53 PM
They say that the days are getting longer, but I am not exactly sure what that means. It seems that my hours are full from dawn to dusk, and I don't have a minute to spare.
My morning was filled with my web activities, and taking care of some financial issues that needed attention. And according to some of the letters, they needed my IMMEDIATE attention.
Even my noontime meal was "work" today, as we had a lunch and learn class about short sales, and were educated by a local attorney as we munched sandwiches and ate brownies. I spent a … (25 comments)

time management: The kind of things I used to do when I had a lot more time! I need more of it now!!! - 02/13/09 11:47 PM
It seems that it years past; I had a lot more free time than I do now. I used to spend countless hours on my hobbies and passions, but now the available moments for diversions are few and far between.
About 20 years ago, when I took the photograph attached to this post, I started from the very beginning! I raised the roses in my garden. I had climbers on trellises and hybrid tea roses of every color and description. As a matter of fact, most of my flower photographs are from this era.
I carefully lit and set up the … (32 comments)

time management: Whatever happened to liesure time? - 03/11/08 03:03 PM
As I am typing this. I am wonderingabout everything I need to do tomorrow, and how I'm going to be able to get it all done. There was a time in my life, when work was a pre-defined time that required both my presence and attention, and that when the time clock was punched (do they still do that anymore?) I no longer was required to think about work in any way, shape or fashion. I was on MY TIME!
When did all of that change? Nowadays, I get to work early in the morning, leave late at night, am on the cell phone coming … (6 comments)

time management: Our time is precious, why don't we treat it that way? - 02/21/08 01:50 AM

A parable about time management:
Well. first of all, I had plenty of warning. A few months ago, when I tried to start my Toyota pickup, the starter clicked and nothing happened. A few more clicks, and it started, so I passed it off as a dying battery.  The next day, it clicked again, so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a battery, and as soon as I installed it, the click continued.
However, the truck always eventually started, and I even joked that one day, I would pay for my indifference. Of course, I was right. One cold morning, … (1 comments)
