Last night at 12:30 AM EST, the tilt of the earth relative to its solar orbital position achieved the maximum declination in the Southern Hemisphere.
As a result, here in the Northern Hemisphere we will endure the minimum amount of daylight between sunrise and sunset.
It’s the official “first day” of Winter,” and the beginning of the next phase of seasons as defined by both scientists and theologians alike.

As we approach the winter solstice, the number of hours of daylight each day is dwindling down to the shortest day of the year. And although there are still twenty-four hours in a day, there doesn’t seem to be enough time to do all that we have to get done.
Holiday shopping, seasonal social functions and traveling make extreme demands on our time, and we really are forced to cram many additional functions into our already busy schedules.
