rick irving: Hell's Half Acre - 02/20/07 09:18 PM
In the early history of Fort Worth Texas one area of Downtown Fort Worth was known as Hell's Half Acre. This location was one of the most notorious high crime Red Light District. Hell's Half Acre started during the city's heyday as a stop for cowboys taking cattle to Kansas in the early 1870s. As the Half Acre became more popular the area covered more than two acres and the level of crime and violence also grew. It wasn't until a Baptist Preacher named J. Frank Norris in 1911 began to link certain businessmen with property in the Acre and he

rick irving: Camp Bowie Boulevard - 02/20/07 06:04 PM
For those familiar with the Westside of Fort Worth one of the landmarks is Camp Bowie Boulevard. Camp Bowie is the famous Red Brick Road. The Boulevard starts at the intersection of 7th Street and University and continues west then become Camp Bowie West. Camp Bowie has been a favorite place for young people to go cruising for decades. In the 60's and part of the 70's Griff's was the place to meet people. That was when I was growing up. Now the place to hang out must be the Sonic Drive In. The old Ridglea Theater is another landmark on

rick irving: The Cowtown Marathon - 02/20/07 05:51 PM
The Cowtown Marathon - Every year in late February the annual Cowtown Marathon is held. Thousands of people run the marathon - half marathon -the 10K or the 5K. I for one have never finished the marathon only because I did not enter. I use to be a runner but one day I quit running and haven't run since. However, I do enjoy watching the runners in the marathon. There is just something special about people that have what it takes to run the marathon. Most runners are not running against other runner but are running to prove to what ever

rick irving: The Realtor and the Camera - 02/18/07 11:34 AM
In the past few years Realtors have had to become photographers. Each year our office takes, edits and post hundreds if not thousands of pictures on the Internet. It seems almost everyday there is a better camera coming on the market. In our household alone we have at least 8 digital cameras. I use an Olympus I have had for 4 or 5 years. A few things I have learned in my life about digital cameras are: You must have good batteries. I like to purchase cameras that use a AA battery. The best battery I have found are Duracell AA NiMH

rick irving: Texas is as Close as I've Been - 02/03/07 10:48 AM
There is a country song with words that say "I may never get to heaven but Texas is as close as I've been." I was born in Fort Worth and I have been in Texas all of my life except for 4 years while serving in the Army. More people are calling Texas home. Some of the reasons for calling Texas home could include, but not limited to the fact, we have No State Income Tax. Aside from having no state income tax what makes Texas a great place to live and especially Fort Worth is the climate, a lot of

rick irving: The Barnett Shale Impact on Tarrant County - 02/03/07 10:30 AM
I read an article this week that over 8800 people are working in Barnett Shale Gas Production related jobs. The economic impact on North Texas continues to grow each day. This impact can now be felt in many local neighborhoods with signing bonuses for leasing mineral rights for residential lots starting at $200 and many lots receiving $500 or more, plus receiving up to 28% royalties on future gas production. They tell me drilling rigs are commanding more than $20,000 a day for drilling services. Devon Energy alone accounts for upwards of 6 billion dollars a year going into our economy. Wow! What an

rick irving: North Texas Gas Production Inside the City Limits - 01/23/07 08:06 PM
Drilling for natural gas is becoming more common inside the city limits of many towns and cities in the North Texas area. Many towns, cities and even the DFW International Airport have taken advantage of the Natural Gas Drilling boom in the area. City coffers are starting to realize an increase in revenues, first from leasing the mineral rights for city owned properties and then from the actual royalties received from the sale of natural gas. The natural gas thousands of feet below the surface of the earth once hidden in the Barnett Shale is becoming a cash cow for cities

People often think the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is all city. But there are plenty wide open spaces in almost any direction from the DFW Metroplex. Some rural property is located within 20 to 45 minutes of the most highly populated areas. Farms and Ranch property is abundant. Some properties have improvements including homes and some properties are only raw land. Chances are property like you are looking for is available. One fact is, the closer you are to the Metroplex the more per acre you will spend. If North Texas is an area you are considering buying property in, I am
