Shop Til You Drop! - 03/27/08 05:32 PM
Savannah doesn't just have a lot of ghosts and golf, it also has tons of shopping. Of course, there is the Oglethorpe Mall and the Savannah Mall, which is right outside the Rio Gate of Hunter Army Airfield in the Southside. We also have our fair share of National Retailers and Chain Stores. On top of that, there are numerous local shops that line River Street, the City Market, and Broughton Streets. If you walk around, you are sure to find some unique shopping areas. It gets even better as you head to the beach! On Tybee Island, you will

As they say, when in Rome do as the Romans. So when in Savannah, you have to shop like one. There are plenty of places that you can find anywhere. But who wants to buy everything from a place that is everywhere. It's nice to be able to pick up a few unique items that will add a little flavor to your wardrobe. Here are a few local shops that might tickle your fancy. BleuBelle Boutique Cherub - I have linked their website but it is not up yet! Cherub is the place to go to dress your little angel. Citi

But what do we do with the children - 03/27/08 12:48 AM
I know as a parent, it is difficult to find someone to watch the children when you need a night out. It's also hard to find someone trustworthy. If you are just moving here, you are at an even bigger disadvantage. I do not endorse any of these places. The list provided is a result of search for childcare facilities in this area. All childcare providers should be carefully screened. These are just a few of the many. Childcare Options Childcare Network has a couple locations here in Savannah The YMCA has several locations available with different programs. ABC Childcare Center

I ain't afraid of no ghosts... - 03/26/08 11:23 PM
...ok, well, may be I am. Are you? In fact, I am not afraid of ghosts because I don't believe in them. However, I do still get that creepy feeling when you walking into a strange new place. My great grandmother's basement was like a dungeon. It had a pull string light located at the bottom of very steep and narrow stairs. I would rush down and turn the light on as fast as I could, get what I needed, turn out the light, and race back up. Savannah is said to be one of the most haunted cities in America.

Finding YOUR home - 03/25/08 12:30 AM
After getting your loan pre approval, the fun begins. Now armed with the knowledge of what price range to look in, homes can be selected based on your criteria. Once homes of interest have been identified, your agent will preview the homes to make sure they really meet your needs. Afterwards, your agent will tell you which ones they felt were the best. Then you can decide from their list and the original list of homes which ones you want to see. If you are an out of state buyer, having an agent to take pictures of the areas and

Let the loan process begin - 03/24/08 09:36 AM
So, you've decided to buy a house. Congratulations on taking this huge step into homeownership. While it is a thrilling idea, it can also be a tedious task. There are so many steps involved. The first step should always be starting the loan process by getting a loan pre approval. Why is the loan pre approval so important? It tells you how much of a loan you are able to obtain based on your credit history. This should be seen as the maximum amount you can spend and not what you should spend. Your monthly mortgage payment should be something

HUD changes - are they on the way? - 03/15/08 08:47 PM
HUD wants to simplify loan terms. They have made a four page good faith estimate and tested it on a sample of consumers. The first page of the document clearly states the interest rate and and what that means for them. It also states whether or not the rate can adjust, any and all prepayment penalties, any balloon payments required, whether or not the loan amount can adjust, and if there is an escrow account associated with loan. These changes had been proposed in response to many homeowners saying they didn't clearly understand their terms. Some homeowners complained they didn't realize

Operation Purple | Military Summer Camp - 03/10/08 01:54 PM
The National Military Family Association (NMFA) is offering a free summer camp to children of deployed soldiers. The camp will help the children learn hope to cope with the stresses and demands of their parents deployment or deployments. These camps have fun activities and will allow the children to be around others who are going through the same situation. The camps were first started in 2004 and expanded in 2005. Some people don't realize just how much a deployment affects the children. Registration for Operation Purple Camp begins March 24th and ends May 5th. A Reminder to Sellers | Watch Out - 03/09/08 09:16 PM
I did an open house this weekend. It had been a little while since I had done one, I must admit. But when I walked into the home, I was reminded of a few things that should be done prior to showings or open houses. First, remember to remove all valuables. The sellers of this home left their checkbook out on the counter in the kitchen. They also left several bills and credit card statements out in the open. Yikes, someone could see account numbers. Worse, they could take a blank check for account information. Second, don't forget to remove all

Relocation - Hunter Army Airfield - Schools - 03/04/08 11:12 PM
If you are relocating to the area and have children, education is a high priority. Unfortunately, this area is not known for having the best schools. However if you do your research, you will find there are good schools in Chatham, Effingham, and Bryan Counties. The determination of what makes a school good will depend on individual preferences. I have heard a bunch of praise for a school that another group of people said was horrible. Internet research should be the first step in school determination. The final and best approach is to actually visit those schools while in session. Unfortunately,

You got orders, now what? Hunter Army Airfield Relocation Information - 03/02/08 01:22 AM
It is an inevitable fact of military life that moving is quite common. While it is a scary and can seem quite impossible the first time, you will get better at it. So, you just got your orders and are wondering what's next. The first thing is to do as much research as possible into your new location. If you can live off post and want to, then you need to look into housing. If you have children, your new homes location will determine their schools. Your hobbies and passions will also dictate your location. Needless to say, there are many
