savannah: But what do we do with the children - 03/27/08 12:48 AM
I know as a parent, it is difficult to find someone to watch the children when you need a night out. It's also hard to find someone trustworthy. If you are just moving here, you are at an even bigger disadvantage. I do not endorse any of these places. The list provided is a result of search for childcare facilities in this area. All childcare providers should be carefully screened. These are just a few of the many. Childcare Options Childcare Network has a couple locations here in Savannah The YMCA has several locations available with different programs. ABC Childcare Center

savannah: I ain't afraid of no ghosts... - 03/26/08 11:23 PM
...ok, well, may be I am. Are you? In fact, I am not afraid of ghosts because I don't believe in them. However, I do still get that creepy feeling when you walking into a strange new place. My great grandmother's basement was like a dungeon. It had a pull string light located at the bottom of very steep and narrow stairs. I would rush down and turn the light on as fast as I could, get what I needed, turn out the light, and race back up. Savannah is said to be one of the most haunted cities in America.

savannah: You got orders, now what? Hunter Army Airfield Relocation Information - 03/02/08 01:22 AM
It is an inevitable fact of military life that moving is quite common. While it is a scary and can seem quite impossible the first time, you will get better at it. So, you just got your orders and are wondering what's next. The first thing is to do as much research as possible into your new location. If you can live off post and want to, then you need to look into housing. If you have children, your new homes location will determine their schools. Your hobbies and passions will also dictate your location. Needless to say, there are many

savannah: Changes for Savannah's St. Patrick's Day Parade - 01/22/08 11:08 PM
The first major change to St. Patrick's Day is it has been moved up to March 14th. It is normally celebrated on the 17th. However due to an edict from a local bishop that decreed festivities should not be held on the Monday of the holy week, the date was changed. So if you are planning a trip here for the parade, you may want to make note of the change. The change has been seen as a good thing locally. With the holiday celebration moved to Friday, people will have more time to spend here for the festivities. Last year barricades

savannah: Potential and Current Landlords, you may need a license to rent - 01/22/08 10:20 PM
Changes have been proposed for rental properties in Savannah. Alderman Tony Thomas wants a license to be imposed on rental properties. The city can then regulate the maintenance on these rental properties. If a property is not properly maintained, the city can revoke the rental license. The city has dealt with many complaints from homeowners about the conditions of rental properties in their area. If there are no visible signs of code violations on the exterior, the city can not enter a rental property. Landlords are not happy about these proposed changes. They say it's just extra paperwork and extra money. The

savannah: Optimistic, Right On, or In Denial? - 01/05/08 11:05 PM
I read an article in the paper two days ago. I'll give you one guess what it was about. It was, of course, about the real estate market. It talked about how things were slow in other places, but that the market here is Savannah was not that bad. According to the article, the market here has slowed a little. Looking at the data, I would be inclined to agree. However, I think how you look at the data and what you look at can affect the overall view. Homes that have relisted a number of times with new mls numbers,

savannah: What Makes a House a Home - Pooler, Georgia - 05/22/07 01:23 PM
Since growing up and becoming a military spouse, my definition of a home has changed. A house is just the walls surrounding and the roof over it. A house is built with material. A home is so much more. A home is built by people and connections. It's the place where you go to relax and escape. Your home should be the castle that defends you from the outside world. It can be your dream come true. I found my home in Pooler, Georgia. Pooler may be the fastest growing city in Georgia, but it doesn't show it. Pooler is close

savannah: Everything's Cooler in Pooler - 05/02/07 08:59 PM
You may have heard this, it seems to be the city slogan. But is it true? I guess it depends on your perspective. It certainly is not true in the summer. We are in Georgia though, so heat is to be expected. While Pooler may not be cooler in the weather sense. It is cooler than living in some of the downtown Savannah areas. Pooler is a growing city. There are new homes, new retail shops, a new elementary school, and a new middle school all in the works. While, there is a lack a variety for entertainment and shopping, it

savannah: I always admit when I am wrong and I was wrong - 04/23/07 11:16 PM
A little while ago I posted about the Kodak Dual Lens Wide Angle Camera. I was having a real tough time getting it to work for me. I did a little more research and reading. I bought a tripod. The camera works wonderfully. I also stopped by a local shop to have a lady there show me more ways to improve my photos. So far, everything Jeff Turner said in his post was absolutely correct. My husband's family was visiting and we went to River Street in downtown Savannah to shop, stroll, and enjoy the weather. I took my Kodak along to see

savannah: My Day at the Savannah "Zoo" - 03/22/07 09:25 PM
It's not your typical zoo. There aren't any bars, cement floors, or paved pathways. The variety of animals is more limited. However, the animals are in an environment that more closely resembles their natural habitat. In my opinion, it was just as good if not better than some of the bigger typical zoos. It isn't even called a "zoo". It is the Oatland Island Educational Center. You follow animal footprints on asphalt to the start of a 2 mile path through the woods and over a marsh. There are wooden plank bridges and walk ways that appear throughout. On some of the

savannah: St. Patrick's Day....Savannah Style - 03/06/07 08:57 PM
When St, Patrick's Day rolls around, most people let it pass by. There are a few people who will wear their green if they are Irish and orange if they are Catholic. I have never heard of a place that actually goes all out and celebrates it like they do here in Savannah. There are celebrations starting on the 10th of March and continuing on until the big day. There will be a Tybee Island parade on the 10th. On the 16th, there will be a St. Patty's Day celebration on the River and it will last until the 18th. The big

savannah: Where do you belong - 01/16/07 10:13 AM
Coming from Pennsylvania, I have never been exposed to "communities" or "subdivision". Where I am from, you won't find a subdivision with a community pool or playground. We simply have homes of all different shapes and sizes on streets. So it was a little overwhelming for me when we first moved to Georgia. Savannah is a beautiful area filled with history and different styles. Finding your way around and where you want to live can be a difficult task. I thought I would try to break down different places for different styles of people. The laid back and easy going person
