tech: Yahoo! Local - 01/20/07 04:13 PM
Yahoo! Local has quietly added a feature that allows users to upload photos to a local listing. For example, I could find my favorite pizzeria in Yahoo! Local and then can upload a photo that I took with my digital camera. People then can view slideshows for a local listing and I find the layout attractive. I have uploaded a few homes I have listed for sale to my local listing and so far haven't discovered any limitations as to the number of photos. … (2 comments)

tech: Heat Map Eye Candy - 01/09/07 03:43 PM
Trulia released Heat Maps for major cities this past September but today released them for the entire nation. The maps help visualize property trends across over 3,000 counties.
While the real-time national Heat Maps do offer average listing prices, median sales prices and popularity across the country, a weakness is that the data used for these figures is not including all listings and sales. Only those that are fed to Trulia. Pretty cool eye candy.

tech: Zillow's Directory of Real Estate Blogs - 01/03/07 09:43 AM
Zillow's Real Estate Wiki has been posted about at Activerain but I couldn't find any posts (my apologies in advance if I missed someone's post) about the Real Estate Blog Directory within the Wiki. The directory is by state and city. After a quick scan I saw that many active Activerain bloggers weren't listed so I thought I'd add a post as I thought most would like to know about this directory.
For those unfamiliar with a wiki, (in Hawaiian it means "fast") it is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content … (16 comments)

tech: How Much Is Your Blog Worth? - 12/30/06 09:46 AM
Dane Carlson has created a tool using Technorati's API to place a dollar figure on your blog. After you enter your url, it will give you code for a widget to place on your site. The value is created using the same link to dollar ratio as the AOL-Weblogs Inc deal. According to the tool, ActiveRain's blog is worth $6,209.94. Seth Godin's is given a value of $3,325,705! My blog registers a paltry $3,387. … (1 comments)

tech: Jawbone's Noise Shield Technology - 12/29/06 01:42 PM
My luck with Bluetooth headsets has not been good but I am still anxiously awaiting the new Jawbone Bluetooth headset ($119.99) which should be released soon in silver, red, and black. You can send the company, Aliph, an email to pre-order. They are offering free UPS Ground shipping to any customer who emails their name, address, and color preference to buy@aliph.com by January 15th. This headset will work with any Bluetooth enabled phone.
Using an adaptive sound technology developed at Lawrence Livermore Labs, the headset incorporates two microphones and a unique voice-activity sensor. When placed against the cheek, the sensor actually … (6 comments)

tech: Geo Greeting - 12/22/06 09:04 PM
View a geographical greeting to activerain by following this link. See how many buildings across the world you recognize.
Many of the letters for this greeting were found by spending endless hours in a basement hunched over a computer looking at Google Maps. (Think of Jack Nicholson's character from The Shining as a web developer instead of a writer.) But recently the user community has helped, and the quality of the letters keeps getting better and better.

tech: The Finish and Dutch Cousin of Zillow's Make Me Move - 12/12/06 03:34 PM
Igglo, is a Finnish company that lets potential buyers earmark houses that aren't for sale.
The Finnish company has photographed every building in Helsinki, and plans to do the same in other towns. These photographs are combined with satellite images and maps. They list each property, not just those that are currently on the market. igglo's  tagline is: "Your house is already on Igglo."
Potential buyers can earmark a building, street or neighbourhood they're interested in, and post offers online. This lets potential sellers find out how desirable their property is, even if they weren't actively considering selling. Buyers also receive an … (2 comments)
