ActiveRain Meetup NYC - Chris Paredes - 05/31/11 02:47 PM
ActiveRain has a new senior developer on the job! His name is Chris Paredes and he's doing a terrific job in some unusual and often stressful circumstances. Chris came on the job as some shifting and shuffling was going with the ActiveRain lead staffing. His responsibilities quickly became magnified as the previous technical lead, Jorgen, had decided to move on. Chris has stepped up and is doing a great job! As Niki has oft mentioned, their focus right now is on system stability and Chris is working tirelessly behind the scenes for all of us in this regard!

What ActiveRain Means To Me - 05/28/11 01:06 PM
Niki Parekh has asked us to show what ActiveRain means to us via a collage presentation challenge. Sounds like fun! Little did I know how much time this was going to take me! LOL... that's ok - it was a fun project!
All of you that have subscribed to me and come visit my blog with your appreciative comments is what keeps me blogging here! OK then, the collage has to be about your smiling faces! Now, how do I make it different? I could just download everybody's profile photo and put something together, but no... won't do... different Craig... different!

Using Google Bookmarks [Tutorial Video] - 05/26/11 01:59 PM

There is an ENORMOUS amount of information that is put in front of us each day on the web. Google Bookmarks is what I am featuring today to help you find "that article" again when you have more time to read through it. Perhaps it is an article that has great info and you know there will be opportunities to share with somebody else later. Put it into your bookmarks list and you will be able to find it!
What makes google bookmarks successful is that it allows you to tag your favorites with "labels" (or in other words, keywords). When you tag a post, think … (62 comments)

Customizing and Embedding Google Maps - 05/12/11 06:11 PM
Google Maps is my most often “go-to” mapping site. Including a map image on your web page or blog post is a great visual element to supplement your hyper-local content. Instead of posting a snapshot of the map, why not embed the map as an object. As such, your readers can dynamically pan and zoom to get more understanding. Furthermore, if you embed an actual map object, consider also that Google surely associates your map’s geo-location as evidence of your local page content.
What if you wanted to highlight multiple locations in your blog post? Let’s say you wanted to … (89 comments)

Craig’s Commute and Photo Shoot - 05/10/11 11:04 PM

Have you seen the movie Trains, Planes, and Automobiles? Well that’s kind of like the theme of my daily commute... only mine is buses, boats, and trains! I live on Staten Island and work in Manhattan. I have a 90 minute trip each way to and from work. The Staten Island Ferry is a 25 minute trip across the NY Harbor. From there I catch the uptown 1 Train to 23rd Street. The ferry trip is very interesting and sometimes us commuters take it for granted. It is quite an interesting trip past the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Governors … (37 comments)

Craig's Clicks - ActiveRain Blog Themes (#5) - 05/04/11 02:16 PM

You know I like to give out gold stars. I've even started a gold star group where we get to feature other ARs and the work that they do. This particular series of gold star posts I call "Craig's Clicks". If you want to go back and see previous posts, that link will list them for you. Our blog content is the most important thing for us to focus on... however our presentation is very valuable too. We want readers to enjoy the appearance so they stay long enough to read it!
I'm featuring blogs three at a time in … (33 comments)

Craig's Classroom Catalog - 05/01/11 09:50 AM
I'm glad you found your way to my Craig's Classroom Catalog Post where you can better find my teaching articles based on categories of topics.
I started the catalog here but it has grown now larger than one page can easily contain! (I'm happy to report that news.) So I have moved the catalog to my own website where I can better organize it and keep it up to date. Click on the image below to head over to my website to see it.
