facebook: How To Create a Post For a Facebook Page - 02/11/23 01:14 PM
Do you like to use Facebook for posts related to your business? It's a good way to stay front mind with your audience (clientele). It's also a good way for people to discover what you are about and what good information you can share with them.
By having a Facebook Page, it enables you to differentiate your personal life from your business life. On your personal Facebook profile, you can post photos of your family, trips you've taken, the amazing dinner that you cooked last night, and things like that. That's great to share with friends and family. If people want to … (24 comments)

facebook: Conversations - In Facebook Messenger - 11/21/22 02:51 PM
If you have worked with me on any sort of project, you'll know that I like to bounce out of the email medium pretty quickly. Emails are fine for a single question and response types of exchanges. Maybe you even go back and forth in emails a couple times and email still is ok. But beyond that, emails get messy for longer conversations.
First of all, I hate tripping over all the email signatures, their signature and then your signature, repeatedly, as you trace back down through the conversation. It's like driving down a perfectly good road that has been ruined by … (18 comments)

facebook: Facebook App vs. Your Mobile Data Plan - 09/19/14 10:14 PM
What mobile data plan do you have? 1GB or 2GB perhaps? So you hate it when you get your bill and there is that “overage charge” because you crossed the quota line even by a fraction.
Well here’s one culprit that you may want to put right into jail – the Facebook app. Have you noticed how many videos are in your newsfeed? Seems like more and more lately! And Facebook decides for us that auto-play is a better user experience. Well on a phone that is not on a Wi-Fi connection, all those frames of playback in a video equates to more mobile data download … (21 comments)

facebook: Oops! I Made a Mistake! - 08/16/14 12:21 AM

Photo Credit: Terry Whalebone, on Flickr Have you ever posted something on social media, or perhaps it was a comment on a post and just about one and a half seconds after you clicked the submit button…
Oops! Why didn’t I see that typo!!
Well you don’t have to live with teh typo,
go fixx it. :)

That ability is hiding right under your nose if you haven’t seen it already.
Facebook A little while back Facebook added the edit capability. It is hiding somewhat though. If you need to edit a post, notice the upper right of the posting box is a … (30 comments)

facebook: Facebook Ticker - See Your Friends Interactions - 01/07/13 07:07 AM

Facebook has an optional sidebar panel that you can turn on that gives you an interesting perspective of what your facebook friends are up to at this very moment. The regular newsfeed shows things that your friends post. However the "ticker" panel on the sidebar shows their other real-time actions like commenting on posts and liking posts.
This gives you more content to browse that is oftentimes relevant to you as well. Your friends are your friends because you share common interests - so I find there is often interesting things going on in the ticker feed as well.
You … (35 comments)

facebook: Facebook Lists - or Are You Just Drinking Out of the Firehose? - 04/14/12 03:12 AM
If you have joined Google+, you'll know what circles are. It is a way to group your friends-family-associates into groups. When you post something, you can share with the world ("public") or you can limit who you share with by applying only to a circle.  Inversely, if it feels like you have subscribed to SO MANY people and you look at your main feed, it is like drinking water out of a fire hose, then circles are also great. You can say filter (OR LIMIT) the newsfeed to only show posts from a particular circle. For me, circles include groups like … (33 comments)

facebook: Is Facebook Doing this to Your Posts? "I Want Thumbnails!" - 02/04/12 05:36 AM
I don't know about you, but somewhere in the stream of time, Facebook stopped offering thumbnails of photos from my ActiveRain posts when I post on FB. The ONLY photo it offers now is my avatar. Hmmm, what's up with that?

Now, wait a minute Facebook, you don't do this when I post links from other websites! I did this FB post the other day and you gave me a choice of the graphics that were in the post as my Thumbnail image!

Ok, so the "workaround" brainstorming session began. This will not do!
What can I do?? … (51 comments)

facebook: This Week in Social Media - Video Calls - 07/06/11 08:24 AM
Social media wars are on! You've likely seen the news but here's a quick recap of a great new feature we now have available to us: Video Calls. Today Facebook made their self-titled "awesome news" announcement that the big part of which was the Facebook + Skype partnership. You can now very easily one-on-one video call any of your friends who are also in Facebook. The sell, after a very quick installation step you are ready to go. (i.e. you don't need any more to go to skype and sign up for a user account, download and install... so the new … (53 comments)

facebook: Facebook Groups - Conversations With Select People - 04/01/11 06:58 AM
I know you are on Facebook. That's a given. Would you post different types of things if you knew it wasn't going to go out to ALL of your 150 friends (that is if you are a typical candidate of Dunbar's Number). Quite likely you may have "friended" quite a few more that that!
Facebook though is a great way to have dynamic and real time conversations on various topics. The question is how is the best way to limit those who can take part in the conversation?? The answer is in using the ability to create a group in Facebook … (34 comments)

facebook: Facebook - Where'd My Lists Go? - 01/15/11 06:49 AM
When your list of Friends and "Liked" pages in Facebook gets long it is sometimes hard to keep up with certain people. The newsfeed updates so frequently that you might totally miss out certain status updates. My first post on ActiveRain was called "Facebook - Don't Miss Your Most Important People" and it tells you how and why you'd want to create lists in Facebook.
Facebook recently just changed the interface and I had to dig around to find out where FB moved the option to pick the list that you want to display. They moved it from the left sidebar … (25 comments)

facebook: Facebook Search - Right Under Your Nose - 08/21/10 01:04 AM

In a recent blog post, I had written about creating lists in Facebook so that you can keep up with your friends' latest news. Sometimes your news feed throws so much at you in a news feed TIDAL WAVE that you might be missing quite a bit that certain friends are posting  (see that article here)
Sometimes you say to yourself, "hmmm- I haven't heard from so-and-so lately. Let me see what they've been up to in Facebook". So what do you do? You go to "friends" on the menu, scan all over for where your friend list is, finally … (19 comments)
