Buying a New Laptop or Home PC? This Should Be the First Program You Install - 09/29/08 10:52 AM

Are you thinking of buying a new Home based PC or Laptop any time soon?
If you answered yes, then the first program you install should be the PC De-Crapifier!
This handy little utility safely removes all those annoying programs that are "bundled" with your new computer, some of which are just useless memory hogs slowing down your computing experience.
I've used this program on every computer I've purchased and it's wonderful. You can even use it on any of your existing computers, not just new ones.
It won't delete anything without prompting you first. So you don't have … (24 comments)

Happy 5769 From the Candidates and Me! - 09/28/08 10:11 PM
On September 30th at sundown, Jewish people from all over the world will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Considered one of the High Holy Days in the Jewish faith, Rosh Hashanah will continue until the sun sets on October 1st.
The celebration of this holiday is the day on which, according to Jews, the whole world is judged for the coming year.
In celebration of the Jewish New Year and the upcoming elections, I'm happy to share a little holiday cheer and well wishes from this year's candidates.
Happy New Year everyone!

What's That Smell Coming From Shea Stadium? Oh, It's the Mets! - 09/28/08 08:16 PM

Let me say this right off the bat (no pun intended).....I'm originally from New York. I lived moments from Shea Stadium and I grew up loving the Mets...But, I have to say that the Mets stink.

Every sports prognosticator had picked the Mets to win the NL East, the National League Pennant and many even had the Mets winning it all.
But on the last day of the season, the one thing that plagued the Mets all season, their bullpen, once again proved their demise.
With 27 blown saves this season, the Mets bullpen was tied … (6 comments)

I've been to Candi-Land...and It's Great There! - 09/25/08 04:23 PM
OK my fellow Rainers, sometimes my blogs are about Real Estate in the Raleigh, NC area.
Sometimes they're about things to do in the area, a new listing, a tribute to a king, or a silly joke.
But today's blog is a thank you to fellow Rainer Candace Robinson.
Candace posted a cool blog that shows you how to make a widget for your sidebar (or for any blog site really).
But not only that, when I thanked her for it, and asked her a question about it, she took the time to make sure I had done it right.
I … (12 comments)

Turn Powerpoint Presentations Into Videos - 09/24/08 09:02 PM
Hey my fellow Rainers!
I came across a great freebie the other day and thought it would be perfect to post here to help my colleagues out. It's called E.M. Free PowerPoint Video Converter
We all have varying ways to present ourselves during listing presentations. Some of us have a brag book, some of us just give straight CMA's, and some of us are just born naturals who go in there and nail it every time with nothing more than a smile and a handshake.
For those of us who need some extra tools to secure that listing, here's a freebie … (15 comments)

Farewell to Yankee Stadium - 09/22/08 06:00 PM

Love them or hate them, the New York Yankees are the classiest organization in all of Major League Baseball. Last night they proved it once again as they played the final game ever in the “House that Ruth Built”.

On April 18, 1923 Babe Ruth opened a new stadium in the Bronx with a home run to right field; the first of many he would hit there. It was the opening night of what eventually would become the most famous ballpark in the world.

Eighty-five years later, and 26 World Championships later, on … (13 comments)

Music for an Active-Rain(y) Day - 09/17/08 01:54 PM

OK, it's pouring outside. My clients are not returning my calls today, I don't have any appointments scheduled and gas is over $4.00 a gallon. So I've decided to just take a mental health day!For me, a mental health day means I'm still working on my Real Estate things. I'm just not getting all dressed up, putting on the name tag or even shaving!  No, it's not a pretty sight. I can assure you of that! But we all need a mental health day every now and then to maintain our sanity; or what's left of it.But, it also means, that … (14 comments)

Pink Floyd Member Dies of Cancer - 09/16/08 11:43 AM

On Monday, one of the original members of Pink Floyd, Richard Wright died of cancer at the age of 65. Born in England on July 28, 1943, Wright's unique keyboard playing was an integral part of the Pink Floyd sound.
David Gilmour, guitarist for Pink Floyd had this to say, "In my view, all the greatest Pink Floyd moments are the ones where he is in full flow. No-one can replace Richard Wright - he was my musical partner and my friend."
Richard Wright will, without question, be missed.

Happy Birthday To the King of the Blues! - 09/16/08 07:36 AM
Happy Birthday B. B. King!

B. B. King is without question the King of the Blues. And today the king celebrates his 83rd birthday! (Shameless plug moment: Other famous people who share September 16th as their special day: Lauren Bacall, Peter Falk and Craig Rutman too!)
Born September 16, 1925, on a plantation in Itta Bena, Mississippi, Riley B. King played on street corners for dimes, and would sometimes play in as many as four towns a night. In 1947, he hitchhiked to Memphis, TN, to pursue his music career.
The rest, as they say, is history!

Durham Blues Festival - 09/15/08 08:25 PM

Running from the 18th through the 20th this year the festival will feature such notables as Clarence Carter, Marcia Ball and Taj Mahal.
Only minutes from Raleigh in downtown Durham, the blues festival is not to be missed.

Clarence Carter, born blind, gravitated to music at a very young age. Receiving his first guitat at age 11, Carter learned to play by listening to the blues classics of John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Jimmy Reed.Carter's unique and soulful style earned … (2 comments)

Eat Your Vegetables Or There'll Be No Dessert For You! - 09/10/08 03:02 PM

OK, here I go again!
Yes, I'm getting older!
No, I can't fight it...although I try every day! I go mountain biking as often as I can and now I'm eating healthier than ever before.
So, every weekend, I find myself heading over to the Farmer's Market in Raleigh to get my week's supply of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The Raleigh Farmers Market boasts over 300 different items for sale and has some of the best locally grown produce you can get. With prices well below supermarket levels and freshness that no grocer can match, the Raleigh Farmer's Market should … (6 comments)

The Importance of Curb Appeal - 09/10/08 02:23 PM
In today's market, nothing can turn a buyer away quicker than poor curb appeal.
Buyer's are picky to begin with, and they have the right to be. They're about to make the biggest purchase of their lives. And, with all the inventory available to them these days, they can afford to be choosy.
Below is a home, that, after the sellers just spruced up the curb appeal a little, made all the difference in the world!

Fannie Freddie Bailout - 09/09/08 02:09 PM

The federal government has stepped in and bailed out mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae; a move that can help bolster the U.S. housing market.
As Realtors, that's the best news we've had in a long time as we struggle through this market downslide.
As taxpayers, that's another story. But given the alternative of letting Freddie and Fannie continue to struggle AND the housing market along with them, this is good news.
Interest rates will surely go down some as more money will be freed up for lenders to make loans.
We'll just have to wait and see … (8 comments)

Mountain Biking In the Raleigh Area - 09/05/08 12:37 PM
As I approach another birthday and try to fight off old age, I continuously look for ways to stay in shape. I no longer can stay out until dawn and function like I did in my college days! So, realizing my limitations, I've found that the one thing I've always enjoyed to keep in shape has taken over a good part of my routine now:
Mountain Biking

I'm not talking about mad-dogging it over a cliff mountain biking. I'm talking about stay in shape riding in the woods mountain biking.
Here in the Raleigh area, there are numerous places to … (8 comments)

Hurricane Gustav and Your Friends on Active Rain - 09/02/08 11:03 AM

Hi fellow Rainers,
I'm writing this blog for the simple reason that I felt the need to!
As we're all aware, hurricane Gustav just rolled through the New Orleans area of Louisiana.
We're all assembled here on Active Rain for numerous reasons. Whether it's to promote ourselves, get ideas on how to be a better Realtor or just to share a joke with our commarades, one thing is for sure: WE ARE ALL COLLEAGUES in this together.
So, with that being said, I looked on Active Rain for members in the New Orleans region. I felt compelled to just send … (0 comments)
