b b king: Stop Singing the Blues...But Go Listen to Some at the Raleigh Blues Festival Feb. 15th! - 01/28/09 08:47 AM
For those of you who know me, or for those who have read my posts, you know that when I grow up I want to be a black Bluesman like BB King or Robert Johnson. I can assure you that's not going to be an easy task for a short, skinny white kid originally from New York City!!! But I have dreams and ambitions so stop laughing!!! Anyway, as I struggle to learn to play guitar, something I'm determined to do this year, the next best thing is to go and see the greats perform. On Sunday February 15th, at

b b king: I've Been Tagged Again! Seven Things About Me You Didn't Know (Or Were Afraid To Ask!) - 01/25/09 07:53 PM
I've been tagged! OK, yet another MeMe is clogging the ActiveRain web site servers. This one is called "Seven Things About Me" But in my case, I'm calling it the "Seven Things About Me You Didn't Know (Or Were Afraid To Ask!)" I'm quite certain there are more than seven things about me you didn't know...or were afraid to ask!....but I'll follow the rules and keep it to seven! Laura Watts, David Patterson and Candace Robinson are the people who tagged me for this blog entry. So, without further ado, but with great reservations, here are:

b b king: Just a Little Something To Start Your Day....Or End It....Your Choice! - 01/05/09 08:12 AM
OK, I’ve been called everything from a "music snob" to being closed minded in my musical tastes. I personally don’t think that’s true, as I listen to a very wide variety of music. Everything from Rock to Jazz, to the Blues and beyond is on my I-Pod. While I do have my personal favorites (B. B. King, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles and Eric Clapton, immediately come to mind), I appreciate listening to new musicians whenever I'm turned on to one. Well, here is an old musician that you probably heard of, but, perhaps, never really quite listened

b b king: Happy Birthday Jimi Hendrix - 11/27/08 09:47 AM
Jimi Hendrix November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970 Jimi Hendrix, a perennial #1 in nearly every "Greatest Rock Guitarists of All Time" lists, was born on this day in 1942 in Seattle, WA. The left handed guitar virtuoso garnered an early interest in music taking influence from legendary blues greats such as B. B. King, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson. Entirely self taught and unable to read music, Jimi Hendrix relied on the sound of the music to teach himself. He received his first guitar from his father when he was 16 and joined his

b b king: Happy Birthday To the King of the Blues! - 09/16/08 07:36 AM
Happy Birthday B. B. King! B. B. King is without question the King of the Blues. And today the king celebrates his 83rd birthday! (Shameless plug moment: Other famous people who share September 16th as their special day: Lauren Bacall, Peter Falk and Craig Rutman too!) Born September 16, 1925, on a plantation in Itta Bena, Mississippi, Riley B. King played on street corners for dimes, and would sometimes play in as many as four towns a night. In 1947, he hitchhiked to Memphis, TN, to pursue his music career. The rest, as they say, is history! With one of

b b king: The Thrill Is (NOT!) Gone... - 05/15/08 01:28 PM
Taking a break from Real Estate...... (Hey, we've got to live too!) The undisputed King of the Blues, B. B. King, played in town the other night and we were there! In a little theater, we fittingly enough had tickets for row "BB". At 82 years old, B. B. might have lost a little of his onstage swagger. But none of his trademark string bending, nor any of his vocal range was among the missing. This guy's still got it! If you've ever seen B. B. live in concert, then you know the deal. If not, here it is.........
