music: We Have a Winner in the Guess What This is Contest! - 05/18/11 08:59 AM
Well folks, we have a winner in yesterday's "Guess What This Is" contest!
And the winner is, drum roll please....
None other than...
"Wanda the Magnificent"

Either that was too easy or Wanda is brilliant! (I'm going to bet it's the latter.)
She nailed it on the first guess only 10 minutes into the contest.
And to think that she's in the Mountain Time Zone and it was only 8:00 AM when she answered!
I barely even had half a cup of coffee in me at the time and she's already at the top of her game!

music: Last Night I Was in the Same Room with 2 Rock & Roll Hall of Famers! - 03/09/10 03:14 PM
Last Night I Was in the Same Room with 2 Rock & Roll Hall of Famers!

Sometimes, after a hard day's work in the Real Estate business, it's nice to just relax and treat yourself to a night out.
Last night was just one of those nights!
I had negotiated for the better part of the day on a new construction home in Cary that my buyers really wanted. $340 some odd thousand dollars later, we finally struck a deal! And then it was my time to relax! Right here in Raleigh, NC, I had the pleasure of seeing in … (38 comments)

One of my favorite guitarists is Jazz great Pat Metheny. If you've never heard Metheny, I think this will be a great introduction to his music.
On April 10th, Pat Metheny will bring his latest project, "Orchestrion" to the Raleigh area as UNC Chapel Hill will play host to this amazing and … (22 comments)

Mitch Rutman - Guest Guitarist with the Dave Matthews Band It's time for some music folks!
As many of you who frequent my blog already know, music is a huge part of my life. I stumble around with my guitar, play the harmonica when I'm alone in the car and I listen to music nearly 24 hours a day. In fact, when I grow up, one of my goals is to be a black Blues musician much like John Lee Hooker or BB King!

music: Happy Birthday John Lennon - 10/09/09 10:32 AM

John Lennon
October 9, 1940- December 8, 1980

John Winston Lennon was born in Liverpool on this day in 1940. He would have been 69 today had he not been tragically murdered outside his hotel in Manhattan.

From the day he picked up his first guitar, the music world was never the same. As a founding member of the Beatles, John Lennon took music to new levels and led the way for a social and cultural revolution. Whether you agreed with his methodology or not, Lennon’s intentions evoked a simple philosophy:

music: Wordless Wednesday One Day Late! These Girls Can Rock! - 05/28/09 10:13 AM
The crowds at FAO Schwarz, the infamous toy store in New York City, was the host of this amazing performance by two dancers playing Bach's Toccata and Fugue on a giant piano.
Talent like this never ceases to amaze me. And, the fact that these girls are a team working in tandem, just goes to show that anything can be accomplished when you put your mind to it.

music: Five Minutes of Time Well Spent...Really.... I Mean It This Time!!! - 02/03/09 08:37 AM
For those of you who know me, you know I'm a Real Estate Broker/ Agent, frustrated writer, aspiring Blues musician and, despite these tough times, I love my job.

You know I have a huge passion for music especially live music.
You know I love a good joke and often use myself as the butt of my humor. You know one of my daily goals is to make anyone who I come in contact with laugh or smile.
But, perhaps, what you don't know about me is that I also have a sensitive side. It hurts me when a … (21 comments)

music: Just a Little Something To Start Your Day....Or End It....Your Choice! - 01/05/09 08:12 AM

OK, I’ve been called everything from a "music snob" to being closed minded in my musical tastes.
I personally don’t think that’s true, as I listen to a very wide variety of music. Everything from Rock to Jazz, to the Blues and beyond is on my I-Pod.
While I do have my personal favorites (B. B. King, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles and Eric Clapton, immediately come to mind), I appreciate listening to new musicians whenever I'm turned on to one.
Well, here is an old musician that you probably heard of, but, perhaps, never really quite listened … (15 comments)

John Lennon
October 9, 1940- December 8, 1980

On this day in 1980, John Lennon's life was tragically cut short as he was killed upon returning home from his studio in New York City. It was a moment that changed Rock and Roll history.
The musician, peace activist, husband and father was mourned worldwide that day and still is every December 8th with candlelight vigils across the globe.
Today, please take a moment out of your day to listen to the message John Lennon fought so hard to get across to the world.

music: Happy Birthday Jimi Hendrix - 11/27/08 09:47 AM
Jimi Hendrix
November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970

Jimi Hendrix, a perennial #1 in nearly every "Greatest Rock Guitarists of All Time" lists, was born on this day in 1942 in Seattle, WA. The left handed guitar virtuoso garnered an early interest in music taking influence from legendary blues greats such as B. B. King, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson.

Entirely self taught and unable to read music, Jimi Hendrix relied on the sound of the music to teach himself. He received his first guitar from his father when he was 16 and joined his … (35 comments)

music: Music for an Active-Rain(y) Day - 09/17/08 01:54 PM

OK, it's pouring outside. My clients are not returning my calls today, I don't have any appointments scheduled and gas is over $4.00 a gallon. So I've decided to just take a mental health day!For me, a mental health day means I'm still working on my Real Estate things. I'm just not getting all dressed up, putting on the name tag or even shaving!  No, it's not a pretty sight. I can assure you of that! But we all need a mental health day every now and then to maintain our sanity; or what's left of it.But, it also means, that … (14 comments)

music: Pink Floyd Member Dies of Cancer - 09/16/08 11:43 AM

On Monday, one of the original members of Pink Floyd, Richard Wright died of cancer at the age of 65. Born in England on July 28, 1943, Wright's unique keyboard playing was an integral part of the Pink Floyd sound.
David Gilmour, guitarist for Pink Floyd had this to say, "In my view, all the greatest Pink Floyd moments are the ones where he is in full flow. No-one can replace Richard Wright - he was my musical partner and my friend."
Richard Wright will, without question, be missed.

music: Happy Birthday To the King of the Blues! - 09/16/08 07:36 AM
Happy Birthday B. B. King!

B. B. King is without question the King of the Blues. And today the king celebrates his 83rd birthday! (Shameless plug moment: Other famous people who share September 16th as their special day: Lauren Bacall, Peter Falk and Craig Rutman too!)
Born September 16, 1925, on a plantation in Itta Bena, Mississippi, Riley B. King played on street corners for dimes, and would sometimes play in as many as four towns a night. In 1947, he hitchhiked to Memphis, TN, to pursue his music career.
The rest, as they say, is history!
