stevens point area churches: Good Friday 2017 in Stevens Point - 04/09/17 11:05 PM
Good Friday 2017 in Stevens Point
If you find yourself in the Stevens Point Area on Good Friday, April 14th - here are some of the services you will be able to attend.
Commemoration of the crucifixion, passion and death of Jesus Christ which includes, scripture, prayer and veneration of the Cross.  There is not a Mass said on Good Friday, but rather a service which has been in practice in the Catholic Church since the seventh century. This adoration of Christ’s cross, is shown in the form of kneeling before the crucifix and kissing it, as a belief that this is the tool bringing us our salvation.

stevens point area churches: Washing of the Feet, a Powerful Message. - 04/09/17 10:59 PM
Washing of the Feet, a Powerful Message.
One of the most impressive traditions of Holy Week is the commemoration of Jesus washing the feet of his apostles.
Churches all over the world hold a mass or ceremony in remembrance of this. In many churches, they choose representatives of the different people involved in church and the priest washes their feet.
In our church, we get our feet washed by the person in front of us in line, we then in turn wash the feet of the person behind us in line. This is quite a humbling experience.
Pope Francis himself will continue this … (2 comments)

stevens point area churches: Gospel Refreshment and Conversations at Franciscans Downtown - 03/05/17 11:43 PM
Gospel Refreshment and Conversations at Franciscans Downtown
This post is actually from a while back, but I am sharing it again tonight since some of my other posts may have people wondering about this special little hangout in Stevens Point.
Today was one of my days that I take the afternoon off from my regular work and spend some time volunteering with the other Franciscans at our little lounge downtown.
Some days it is more like a homeless shelter, somedays it seems like it is more about showing a few movies, and other days like today it is more about the words that Fr … (2 comments)

stevens point area churches: Holy Week heats up at St Joes in Stevens Point - 03/24/16 07:07 AM
Today Holy Week heats up with the end of Lent and the beginning of the Triduum.
Today is the day that Jesus celebrated the Passover Celebration with his disciples and thus taught us how to conduct the first Mass, and event that He requested that we continue in His memory.
He began the celebration by washing His follower’s feet, a job generally left to the lowest servant, but a job that Jesus wanted to do as a symbol of service.
Jesus then commanded that we go and do service to those around us following His example.
I hope to see you there for the celebration … (5 comments)

Easter and Holy Week 2016 at Holy Spirit Parish in Stevens Point.
This is the week that we celebrate what it is all about, and I don’t mean eggs and bunnies.
Starting Thursday evening we start the celebration of the Triduum, reliving a tradition that started when Jesus joined his disciples in an upper room to celebrate the Passover in a deep and special way.
With a meal together, learning about service through the foot washing, learning about the Mass, and teaching them how to run the Church that He was getting ready to leave them with.
It is a powerful week ending with the … (3 comments)
