long island home staging: What's Under Your Bed? - 08/24/09 05:31 PM
Photo from fanpop.com Cool name for a scary movie, but I'm talking about using the space underneath your bed for storage, especially when you are selling your house. Prospective buyers will be looking in closets and the cabinets that come with the house. You need to cut your clothing closets in half to really give a good visual of how much space they have. Out of season clothes can be put in storage bins in the basement or attic, but what about all those extra light jackets, sundresses that may see the sun once all summer and those shorts

long island home staging: Some House Prep Updates ~ Finally! - 07/25/09 07:43 PM
I know I've been away from Active Rain for just FOR-EVA, but I have been trying to remember to take pictures along the way, and I finally have some "before" and "afters" to share. As you probably recall from my past posts, we are preparing our house to put on the market. This room I'm sharing today is on one side of that long hallway I posted about here. It is part of the original den to this house (the hall was the other part of the original den but became a hall when we added our great room). This room

long island home staging: A new trend that has kept us hopping.... - 05/21/09 10:46 AM
Melissa Marro, a stager in South Carolina, shares these great staging stats. Via Melissa Marro www.StagingAndRedesign.com www.RedesigningCharleston.com (First Impressions): I'll admit it. For the past few years I've been completely jealous of many of you stagers here in AR. You with your flashy 2 days on market, 10 days on market, etc. I sat here in Charleston thinking, we are making a difference, but I want numbers like that. Once in a while we would get something fabulous - my best story ever was a home that had been for sale for 8 months with no bites, an hour after staging

long island home staging: It happened again!! What's going on? Could it happen to you? - 05/07/09 10:41 AM
Courtesy of Melissa Marro of South Carolina: Via Melissa Marro www.StagingAndRedesign.com www.RedesigningCharleston.com (First Impressions): Last night I sat down and blogged about stats that we've been having here lately in Charleston, SC with our staged homes. Well, just a few minutes ago I received an email from a team member letting me know that a home she recently staged has gone under contract - in only 9 days!!! Surely I had already pulled this stat last night when I did my blog I thought, but NO! This oen is new.... MLS#2911681 listed at $495,000 on 4/28/09 went contingent just yesterday -

long island home staging: Good Grief! We've Got A Lot Of Crap! - 04/27/09 05:54 PM
This past weekend began the removing things from walls and giving them designations - "garage sale", "keep", "donate" and "trash". We went from room to room writing down what needed to be done in each room. Some rooms will be quick; just a matter of thinning out our "stuff", others will need some spackling and repainting (what comes from hanging many pictures and other decorative wall decor). By Sunday evening I had more in the "garage sale" pile than the "keep" pile! Right now the "keep" pile comprises family photos. I am reminded of George Carlin's "stuff" skit as I go through everything.

long island home staging: The Powder Room Updated For Sale - 04/21/09 05:02 PM
I kind of had a head start on this post because when we first started kicking around the idea of putting our house up for sale I knew this powder room was going to have to be redone. I knew that the wallpaper had to come down, and since it was the only room in our house with wallpaper, I figured we might as well tackle that first. I also knew that the vanity, counter and mirror had to be updated as well. Since this is the bathroom on the first floor, I knew it would be one of the rooms

long island home staging: Give Mom The Gift Of Decorating! - 04/16/09 09:44 AM
Mother's Day is just a few weeks away! Looking for something different to give Mom this year? Gift certificates make great gifts! Has your Mom indicated she wants to "freshen" up the house? Maybe she's indicated that a room needs painting, but she's not sure what color. Is her furniture and accessory arrangement just not working anymore? Perhaps she could benefit from a home staging consultation before the house goes on the market. Why not consider a gifit certificate for interior decorating - or interior redesign or home staging (or any of the services we offer). Visit our website to see

long island home staging: Advice For Sellers - Relisting? Don't Repeat Past Mistakes - 04/15/09 08:39 PM
Sharon Tara, a home stager neighbor to the north, has made her blog post available for a reblog. I hope it will be of interest to homeowners getting ready to put their homes on the market this spring. Via Sharon Tara New Hampshire Home Stager (Sharon Tara Transformations): If you are one of the many sellers who took their house off the market this past winter with the intent to relist in the Spring, you are probably in the process of preparing to relist. One very important thing to keep in mind is that you don't want to repeat your past mistakes.

long island home staging: Sometimes The Little Things Mean A Lot - 04/03/09 03:26 PM
I've started saving these little bottles and soaps that my husband brings home for me from his business trips. Instead of sticking them in the cabinet under the bathroom sink (and forgetting about them), I like to add them to bathroom stagings. These work well if I'm using a small basket with hand towels and wash clothes. I did that in this bathroom: Here's a close up shot. In this basket I utilitzed tube-style shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. I've been wrapping the soaps in a pretty tissue paper and use one of my labels as a seal. I think it adds

long island home staging: White Is A Color - 03/27/09 04:55 PM
White ~ it can conjure up cool, clean, fresh, and sterile visuals. White is usually thought of as a cool or cold color. Sometimes it's thought of as no color. Hard to figure then why paint manufacturers like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams have about a hundred colors between them in the white family. Just like any other color, white can have other colors within it - blue, yellow, pink, gray, etc. Many retailers are showing white with other colors, which can sometimes tame a wild color, tone down a bright color and look clean and fresh with natural colors. long island home staging: Selling Your Home in Today's Market - 03/26/09 05:16 PM
They are really on the ball in California! This is the third post I am re-blogging from a stager on the west coast. Thanks to Wendy Timmons for making this available for a reblog: Via Wendy Timmons - Temecula Home Stager (The Real Estate Stagers Temecula,CA): Selling your home can be a stressful time. Adding the market conditions facing most areas can add to that stress. What if I told you that selling your property does NOT have to be stressful? There is a number of things you can do to make it easier on yourself. 1. Price it right the first

long island home staging: Million Dollar House In East Moriches ~ In Contract! - 01/24/09 08:33 AM
You may recall I wrote a post about a $1.3 million dollar vacant I staged in East Moriches in September of last year. It had been on the market vacant for over a year and a half. The broker held an open after the staging, the weekend of September 20th. I would periodically check our MLS to see if it was still on there and last night it was not! I sent an e-mail to the realtor asking if it had sold or gone into contract. She replied this morning that it is in full contract! Below are a few of the "before" and "after"

long island home staging: My Favorite Bedroom "Before" & "After" - 12/31/08 09:28 AM
The third in Kathy Nielsen's series on favorite room transformations - this time Favorite Bedroom - is a little harder decision than the previous rooms, because I have a few I really liked. This master bedroom was from condo models I did in May-June, in a senior community. Part of what made this one of my favorites was that I was able to be involved in choosing the paint, flooring, cabinetry (in the adjoining bathroom) and tile selections. Before (My shot) After (Professional Shot) Kathy Passarette and Creative Home Expressions are located on Long Island, New York, and offer home staging, interior decorating,

long island home staging: My Favorite Kitchen "Before" & "After" - 12/29/08 08:09 PM
Kathy Nielsen's new post has asked us to post our favorite kitchen "before" and "afters". Kitchens really are the heart of the home and everyone always seems to congregate in the kitchen during get-togethers. I hope that potential buyers can imagine themselves in this kitchen. Here are a few kitchen pictures from my favorite staging project this year: Before After Before After (pro pic) Kathy Passarette and Creative Home Expressions are based on Long Island, New York, and offer home staging, interior decorating, interior redesign, color consultations and more. long island home staging: Karaoke At Houston Airport - 12/21/08 08:30 AM
I read this news story this morning, and think it is a great, out-of-the-box and creative idea! Passengers (and employees) at Houston Airport were able to listen to and sing Karaoke while waiting in the airport. The songs were geared to seasonal renditions. What a great way to help pass the time if you had a delayed flight, especially with all these storms across our nation these past couple of weeks. Here is a link to the article. I'm not a frequent flyer myself (or a singer), but it would certainly take my mind off sitting in an airport! I think

long island home staging: So, You Wanna Get A Horse? - 12/10/08 08:55 PM
I don't ride, but I have always appreciated the beauty of horses. Five beautiful horses rescued from a stable in September, are healthy once again thanks to the SPCA. The horses were taken to Indian Head Ranch in Huntington, and have been under the care of the owner, Wayne Dougal. The emaciated horses have regained much of their weight. Four of the five horses are up for adoption, the fifth having been adopted by one of the veterinarians that treated him. Applications are due by next Wednesday and the adoption fee is $1,200.00. You can view additional pictures of these beautiful

long island home staging: Hamptons Helicopters Help - 07/06/08 09:24 AM
You know when Summer starts on Long Island because you start to hear the helicopters overhead on Friday evenings as they come from Manhattan and head to the Hamptons. Then it starts again on Sunday as they all head back to Manhattan. The stragglers will wait and go Monday morning, when you can usually hear them at about 5:00 a.m. The problem is they fly over residential areas and their noise pollution interferes with residents enjoying their own backyards. In April of this year, Senator Schumer announced a plan to help Long Islanders report helicopters flying below (when you can feel
