long island interior decorating: I Love What You've Done With The Place! - 04/07/09 05:31 PM
I've long admired your house and your renovation/purchase of this family home will work so well for you! I love the crown molding in your living room; it sets that paint color off so nicely. I love how the rooms flow into each other and you can pretty much see from the front door straight to the back. I think it's great how you set up a nice computer station in the family room. And that plasma TV, over the fireplace, I wanted to do the same thing in my house. I love how your home office gets that light from

long island interior decorating: It's Time To Come Home ~ Accessories - 03/12/09 08:28 AM
Photo courtesy of Ballard Designs Home décor accessories run the gamut from mirrors in an entry to those cute little knick-knacks on side tables. The problem with accessories comes in when it seems more is more, rather than less is more, and you can't enjoy the pieces for themselves because there is just too much stuff. As a tip, when adding an accessory to a room that is already accessorized, remove one other item. You don't have to get rid of it, but store it and bring it out in six months or a year for a fresh look, or find

long island interior decorating: Valentine's Day ~ Make It Romantic - 02/05/09 11:28 AM
I recently had a reporter use one of my Valentine's Day tips for an article in the Denver Post, which you can read here. It is quite humorous and she lists the tips in a second section underneath the main article. Here are the rest of the tips that didn't make it into the article: •· Instead of dining where you always do, choose a new spot. Move a small table in front of the fireplace or into the center of your living room. If the weather permits where you live, go out onto a porch, patio or deck. The beauty

long island interior decorating: First Newspaper Mention For 2009 - 01/08/09 08:32 AM
I still get excited when I am contacted by a reporter, whether because of an article I've submitted or directly for something they are working on. The link below is for the El Paso Times and is my first mention for the new year. The information on the color orange and unfussy window treatments at the very end was mine as well. It's short and sweet, but I'm in it! The link doesn't last long, and will probably come up as unfound at the newspaper's website after a couple of weeks. http://www.elpasotimes.com/living/ci_11400113 Kathy Passarette and Creative Home Expressions are located on Long

long island interior decorating: My Favorite Bedroom "Before" & "After" - 12/31/08 09:28 AM
The third in Kathy Nielsen's series on favorite room transformations - this time Favorite Bedroom - is a little harder decision than the previous rooms, because I have a few I really liked. This master bedroom was from condo models I did in May-June, in a senior community. Part of what made this one of my favorites was that I was able to be involved in choosing the paint, flooring, cabinetry (in the adjoining bathroom) and tile selections. Before (My shot) After (Professional Shot) Kathy Passarette and Creative Home Expressions are located on Long Island, New York, and offer home staging, interior decorating,

long island interior decorating: Karaoke At Houston Airport - 12/21/08 08:30 AM
I read this news story this morning, and think it is a great, out-of-the-box and creative idea! Passengers (and employees) at Houston Airport were able to listen to and sing Karaoke while waiting in the airport. The songs were geared to seasonal renditions. What a great way to help pass the time if you had a delayed flight, especially with all these storms across our nation these past couple of weeks. Here is a link to the article. I'm not a frequent flyer myself (or a singer), but it would certainly take my mind off sitting in an airport! I think

long island interior decorating: October Is Window Covering Safety Month - 10/01/08 06:18 AM
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Counsel (CPSC) since 1990 approximately 200 infants and young children have died from accidentally strangling in window cords. Window Fashions Certified Professional Associate, Kathy Passarette of Creative Home Expressions (a Long Island based interior decorating firm), urges parents to follow the suggestions of the Window Covering Safety Counsel (WCSC) and only use cordless window products in young children's bedrooms and sleeping areas. Owners and renters should replace all window coverings in the home made before 2001 with today's safer products. The WCSC is dedicated to providing consumer information and educational materials on window-cord safety.

long island interior decorating: Add Some Romance To Your Valentine's Day Decorating - 01/27/08 07:43 PM
These tips are simple and easy, requiring almost no time, and items you may already have around your house. Don't worry about red and pink not matching the rest of your home's décor. This holiday is more fleeting than Christmas, so it won't affect your overall decorating scheme. • Instead of dining where you always do, choose a new spot. Move a small table in front of the fireplace or into the center of your living room. If the weather permits where you live, go out onto a porch, patio or deck. A beautiful view, whether mountains, city lights, or the
