long island interior decorator: Special Anniversary Offer & The Oaks at Broadlawn - 07/04/09 08:37 AM
To coincide with Creative Home Expression's four year anniversary, I am offering a special to the residents at The Oaks at Broadlawn (Massapequa, New York). Having decorated the model condominiums at The Oaks, I have been working with several of the homeowners. I am setting up two weekends for first time consultation appointments - Saturday, July 25th and Saturday, August 15th. The first time consultation fee will be $60.00 per hour (down from $75.00), and the waiver of the travel fee will continue - that's a savings of $65.00! If you've been considering making an appointment for a

long island interior decorator: Pleasant Dreams Or A Nightmare In The Making? - 06/10/09 06:41 PM
Photo courtesy of Horchow A beautifully dressed bed is the focal point of your bedroom. The colors, patterns and styles are unending. There is something to please everyone. If your current bedding is hitting the 7-year-old mark, you're most likely due for some new bedding. Worn, faded, ripped bedding is not very inviting to slip into at the end of the day. Photo courtesy of HorchowWhile you may cringe at the prices, you can get some great deals on Bed-in-a-Bag items. Some of them even come with the sheets! You can get over the "wow, this is expensive" mantra by realizing

long island interior decorator: Bookcases ~ A Novel Idea - 06/09/09 08:23 AM
Photo courtesy of Country Living MagazineI love books, so I think loving bookcases goes hand-in-hand with that. I have a pair of bookcases my hubby made for me as a gift one year - I love them if for no other reason than that he made them for me, but they absolutely came in handy as well. They will be coming with us when we down-size.I also have a pair of bookcases with drawers in my son's bedroom that will be repurposed into bookcases for my home office. They are pine, but I plan on painting them. My problem comes in

long island interior decorator: Wallpaper Or Art ~ It Can Be Both - 05/18/09 10:39 AM
There are some beautiful wallpapers out there and while I love them, I just can't bring myself to wallpaper an entire room. However, I can still enjoy the lovely patterns that are out there by using the wallpaper in other ways. Photos courtesy of All Posters and Real SimpleFraming pieces of wallpaper and using them in lieu of actual pictures. Not only am I getting some of that beauty I'm admiring, but an inexpensive way to add some art to my walls! You can do individual pieces or hang three together in a tryptich. long island interior decorator: Give Mom The Gift Of Decorating! - 04/16/09 09:44 AM
Mother's Day is just a few weeks away! Looking for something different to give Mom this year? Gift certificates make great gifts! Has your Mom indicated she wants to "freshen" up the house? Maybe she's indicated that a room needs painting, but she's not sure what color. Is her furniture and accessory arrangement just not working anymore? Perhaps she could benefit from a home staging consultation before the house goes on the market. Why not consider a gifit certificate for interior decorating - or interior redesign or home staging (or any of the services we offer). Visit our website to see

long island interior decorator: I Love What You've Done With The Place! - 04/07/09 05:31 PM
I've long admired your house and your renovation/purchase of this family home will work so well for you! I love the crown molding in your living room; it sets that paint color off so nicely. I love how the rooms flow into each other and you can pretty much see from the front door straight to the back. I think it's great how you set up a nice computer station in the family room. And that plasma TV, over the fireplace, I wanted to do the same thing in my house. I love how your home office gets that light from

long island interior decorator: White Is A Color - 03/27/09 04:55 PM
White ~ it can conjure up cool, clean, fresh, and sterile visuals. White is usually thought of as a cool or cold color. Sometimes it's thought of as no color. Hard to figure then why paint manufacturers like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams have about a hundred colors between them in the white family. Just like any other color, white can have other colors within it - blue, yellow, pink, gray, etc. Many retailers are showing white with other colors, which can sometimes tame a wild color, tone down a bright color and look clean and fresh with natural colors. Using Pottery

long island interior decorator: Spring Ahead ~ Not Just For Clocks - 03/06/09 07:50 AM
As we move our clocks ahead an hour this weekend and get ready to welcome Spring (I know, there is still snow on the ground), it is also a great time to start thinking about freshening up our homes that have been "closed up" for so many months. Interior Redesign may help give your home that freshening up it needs. Spring-cleaning refers to more than just housekeeping. Spring-cleaning is also a time to clean out the clutter, banish winter from our homes, and lighten up our rooms. Redesigning a room, or rooms, in your home is a great Spring-cleaning project, as

long island interior decorator: Some Long Island History ~ Did You Know . . . - 02/19/09 10:37 AM
That when P.T. Barnum died in 1891 his estate was valued at $4.3 million dollars. Mr. Barnum made his fortune not just from his circus, but from real estate; some of which he purchased in Port Jefferson on Long Island. In 1873 P.T. Barnum bought land in Port Jefferson and, using his nephew and a real estate partner as his agents, cleaned up the site by removing dense areas of trees in the area known as Brick Hill. He planned to "erect a good number of houses there". While the first parcels were advertised in August of 1875, none were

long island interior decorator: It's Time To Come Home ~ Lighting - 02/12/09 08:12 AM
Lighting can make or break a room, but many people don't give it a second thought. That paint color you labored over choosing can wind up looking like the worst choice you've ever made based on the lighting you use in that room. Let's take a look at the three basic types of lighting. Task lighting is lighting that performs a function for a task. Task lighting should be in every room in your house. From desk lamps to table lamps, before purchasing a lamp, keep in mind what tasks you will be using it for. Reading lamps should be above eye

long island interior decorator: It's Time To Come Home ~ Flooring - 01/27/09 08:42 PM
One of the largest single surfaces in your home is the floor. This article will take a look at the many options available in flooring and which one, or combination of choices, will work best in your home. Wood ~ There is nothing that evokes warmth and timeless appeal more than wood floors. Wood does not harbor allergens, is renewable and easily recyclable. Many decorating magazines show homes that utilize reclaimed or salvaged wood. You can add stencils, borders or medallions (or a combination of the three). Wood floors are favored in living rooms, dining rooms, and family

long island interior decorator: It's Time To Come Home ~ Window Treatments - 01/21/09 11:27 AM
Drape Photo courtesy of Smith & Noble Due to the abundance of information on window treatments, this post will be in two parts. Window treatments -- besides "color" these two words alone can strike fear into the hearts of homeowners. When you think about all the choices to make about window treatments - material, fabric, color, size, options and hardware, it's not surprising that many new homeowners still have paper shades on their windows five years later. However, if you break it down, deciding what kind of window treatments to use on your windows can be a stress-free decision.

long island interior decorator: First Newspaper Mention For 2009 - 01/08/09 08:32 AM
I still get excited when I am contacted by a reporter, whether because of an article I've submitted or directly for something they are working on. The link below is for the El Paso Times and is my first mention for the new year. The information on the color orange and unfussy window treatments at the very end was mine as well. It's short and sweet, but I'm in it! The link doesn't last long, and will probably come up as unfound at the newspaper's website after a couple of weeks. http://www.elpasotimes.com/living/ci_11400113 Kathy Passarette and Creative Home Expressions are located on Long

long island interior decorator: Fall Into Color ~ Trends for Fall 2008 - 08/29/08 08:08 AM
If you've started receiving your Fall/Winter clothing catalogs, you are ahead of the game in what colors will be the trend in interior decorating this Fall and into 2009. The colors from the Fall fashion lines transition to the colors we see as trends in home décor. It is not unusual to ask a client what colors they feel good wearing, because you can translate those same colors used in clothing lines into the home. Photo courtesy Metrostyle Reds will be split between the strong blue based and yellow based hues. Orange continues to show up with brown-downed shades, but also include a brighter

long island interior decorator: Affordable Decorating Tips - 03/16/08 07:04 PM
One of the easiest things to do, without spending any money, is to look around your rooms and clean up any clutter. This includes too many knick-knacks on display, too many family pictures, too much of anything. Remember, less is more. Your accessories will make a bigger impact when they can be fully appreciated. If too many things overwhelm your eye those special items will not stand out. If necessary, pack up some items for six months and then rotate them back out. Move things around. Furniture, accessories, and pictures. Move things to another room to see it in another light. Make

long island interior decorator: Free Concerts - 02/06/08 08:02 PM
Tonight I attended a free concert. It was at the Mount Sinai High School, and it was members of the high school's Chorus, Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble. Now, I attended because my son is a senior at Mount Sinai High School and plays the tenor saxophone in the Symphonic Band. However, I have long thought that these concerts might be of interest to our 55+ community who just want to hear some good music. It's free, it's local and it's played in a professional manner. Just like the local libraries, you are paying school taxes, so why not enjoy some
