QUESTION:
I wrote a little while ago about my husband's judgements I misunderstood what judgements meant I am so sorry about that. His is just debts that the collection agencies are trying to collect. But they are 5 to 7 years old and are still on his credit report and they are medical bills we could not pay. What can I do to get this off his credit report ? I also have several debts but mine is credit cards is the Statue of Limitations the same or different ? I have 1 in 1999 and 1 in 2000 and 1 in 2001 and 2 in 2002 so what can I do to get this off my credit report or is there anything I can do ?
ANSWER:
I cannot answer your questions about credit repair. I don't do credit repair and know very little about it. That having been said, there are ways to get things removed from credit reports without writing letters of dispute to the credit bureaus and those ways are far more effective than any letter writing will ever be able to accomplish. In order to help you with your questions about judgments I will have to know what state you live in. You may have told me that in some other communication but I don't have those handy to need to know it in this series of messages. If the listing of the debt by the creditor is more than 7 years 6 months old then they must come off regardless of who put them there. If someone has reaged the debt causing them to remain on the report for a longer period of time then that is illegal reaging of the debt. So what state do you live in?

Debt collectors hounding people for old debts is nothing new, often for debts that they don't even owe. The statute of limitations in Texas is 4 years but they can still attempt to collect even though the statute of limitations has long since passed and they can still go to court in an attempt to collect. If you fail to respond to the summons they will get a judgment and then the statute of limitations will not help you. So be on the lookout for any judgments they might file. In the meantime you need to learn how to defeat their abusive collection attempts and one of the best ways is to use my 18 questions which you can find at http://www.creditwrench.com/18questions.html you should print out the list and keep them handy by your phone. The reason those questions will stop their abusive phone calls is that debt collectors work on a commission basis. The only way they make commissions is by collecting money as fast as possible and if you effectively waste their time they will quickly leave you alone and move on to others who are less knowledgeable than you. So go get the list of questions and listen to the audio recordings so you learn how to use them effectively.
