Sixty plein air artists, all juried into the Carmel Art Festival, will be painting at various scenic points in Monterey County this Thursday and Friday. They will then turn in TWO for judging on Saturday.
You, the public, can then view these paintings in Carmel-by-the-Sea (on Mission Street) and make silent bids until 6 PM. Historically, you can get some excellent deals because these artists are considered some of the finest plein air artists at this point in time. Collectors come from all over the country to bid on these paintings.
Can't be there? We have absentee bidding. See our website for more information. You will actually be dealing with me when placing your absentee bids. I've been on the board of the Carmel Art Festival for quite a few years, and this aspect is one I started three years ago. We had so many collectors who could not come to Carmel-by-the-Sea for one reason or another and urged us to do this.
NOW WE PLACE PHOTOS OF ALL PAINTINGS ON OUR WEBSITE BY 12 NOON ON SATURDAY, MAY 19 SO EVERYONE CAN SEE & POSSIBLY BID ON THEM!
At 5 PM, our new Carmel-by-the-Sea Mayor Jason Burnett (no, not Clint Eastwood, he was mayor back in 1986) will help to hand out awards to winners including a special "Mayor's Choice" award.
Devendorf Park, adjacent, will be the site of our annual "Sculpture-in-the-Park", "Kid's Make Art Day" and "Quick Draw" throughout the weekend. Here, also, is our INFORMATION tent which also sells posters plus tee shirts & hats.
Steven Whyte is once again creating a HUGE SCULPTURE right in front of his adoring audience. It takes him THREE DAYS to finish it.
There will also be LIVE MUSIC on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
PLUS GALLERIES ALL OVER CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA HAVE THEIR OWN EVENTS.
Some galleries have full-on artist receptions with wine and food, others have artist exhibitions where you can watch them create a painting. You can stroll all over this beautiful little city in the forest, from one event to another, from coffee house to wine bar to restaurant - all within a few blocks.
COME TO CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA FOR AN ART & MUSIC WEEKEND - THE WEATHER IS SUPPOSED TO BE GREAT.
