Last week, I posted a blog indicating that the Fairfax Board of Supervisors was likely to pass the creation of a special tax district to fund three future Metro stops as part of the Metro extension to Dulles Airport. Today the Board of Supervisors made it official. They unanimously approved a measure to allow the County "to raise $330 million in tax revenue from commercial property owners along the line to help fund its $420 million phase two share and three stops along the route - Reston Town Center, Herndon at the Toll Road and Monroe Avenue and Route 28," according to

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is likely to accept a petition from Western Fairfax landowners who want to tax themselves in order to pay for three future Metro stops, including Reston, Herndon and one near Route 28. According to the Herndon Connection, the Board of Supervisors is expected to create a special tax district in order to cover most of the funding for these three proposed stops. Homeowners will not be expected to pay this tax, even if they live in the newly created tax district.
