bucks county: Bucks County's Kim Walnes - 02/15/12 09:32 AM
The horse world is one of a thousand opinions. It is often said that if you ask two different horse people how to do something right, you’ll get three different answers. It’s difficult to find a person who can find the good in each of the myriad different opinions that exist about horse care and training, but Kim Walnes uses her unique philosophy to pull valuable ideas and practices from nearly every school of thought. With almost unheard-of patience and openness, Kim has made it her mission to help horses and their people communicate more effectively and find joy in working

bucks county: Winter Horse Care - 01/26/11 02:09 PM
Winter is certainly a difficult time for both horses and their owners, especially this winter here in PA. This article will briefly highlight some important tips for you to keep in mind to ensure a happy winter. First of all, the most important thing is to know that during winter months horses consume more calories. Forgetting to account for the body temperature, some owners assume that since horses are not very active during winters, they consume fewer calories. More calories are burnt in order to maintain body temperature and therefore it is absolutely essential to increase the amount of

bucks county: Equestrian Social - Bucks County Version - 08/30/08 05:14 PM
Thank you to all those who attended our Equestrian Social at the Tinicum Park Polo Club in Erwinna, PA which we co-hosted with Bucks County Equestrian. Although I was pre-occupied with hostess duties and chatting with our guests, I was able to catch glimses of the exciting polo game unfolding before us. The weather was glorious which just added to the overall enjoyment of the day. This was the first year we decided to hold a Social in Bucks County. For the last 2 years we have hosted them in the Lehigh Valley so we were pleased to expand this concept to include a county

bucks county: Olympic Doping Cases Among 4 Show Jumpers - 08/22/08 06:16 PM
Horses ridden by 4 competitors in the team competition tested positive for Capsaicin which “is classified as a« doping » prohibited substance given its hypersensitizing properties, and as a « medication class A » prohibited substance for its pain relieving properties.” according to the FEI’s website. These riders are from Germany, Ireland, Norway (bronze team medal winner) and Brazil and have been temporarily suspended by the FEI which excluded them from the individual show jumping final. Apparently this substance has been difficult to detect until only recently and the laboratory in Hong Kong is reported as being very “cutting edge”. It’s hard to imagine how

bucks county: Olympics are over for this Quadranium - 08/22/08 06:13 PM
I can’t help but feel melancholy since the four year build-up and all the preparation which goes into each Olympic Games has concluded. It’s always exciting to be involved with a sport which has been one of the original sports in the modern day Olympics. It is horse sport’s most coveted competition. Let’s hope it remains in the Olympics for a long, long time. The FEI has been very proactive especially lately under the leadership of President HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein in amending its rules to include the participation of more countries (e.g. trimming the dressage team down from

The US Show Jumping Team clenched the gold in Hong Kong, the site of the Olympic Games venue for the equestrian disciplines, resulting in a masterfully ridden jump-off with Canada. McLain Ward on Sapphire, Laura Kraut aboard Cedric and Olympic rookie, Will Simpson on the handful, Carlsson vom Dach were the first 3 to go and thanks to their outstanding results, Beezie Madden as the anchor rider didn’t even have to jump. Sapphire, also on the Athens Olympic Team, was consistently brilliant having 3 clear rounds with only a foot in the water during the 1st round. The 15.2 hand Cedric was

bucks county: Horse Farms in Berks County - 07/02/08 06:37 AM
Berks County located west of the Lehigh Valley is a fantastic alternative to buy a farm compared to its lofty cousin, Bucks County, where the prices of real estate are quite high. Reading, known for its many outlets, is the county seat, . Enjoying the status of Pennsylvania Dutch Country many farms crowned with hex signs can be found dotting the countryside. In fact there is even a hex sign driving tour. Names like Deitsch Eck Restaraunt in Lehnartsville off of Route 78 help to remind one of this area's unique history. Horse Farms are quite affordable, take for example Windsor Castle Farm in Hamburg.

bucks county: Crowds of horse lovers at PA Horse Expo - 02/23/08 09:23 PM
All I can say is wow, the PA Horse Expo today, Saturday, drew thousands upon thousands of horse lovers from all over the Mid Atlantic region! People were waiting in line to talk with the different vendors including myself. Makes one feel really loved! It is inspiring to see so many people there with one common passion binding them together as diverse as their backgrounds may be: cowboys mixed in with dressage riders, the charm the Amish folks bring, natural horsemanship reps., all the different breeds. Vendors came from as far away as California and Washington. Tomorrow is the last day and in a way I
