pa: Welcome to the World of Capoeira - 11/09/11 11:38 AM
A few weeks ago while in New Hope, PA I had the pleasure of meeting, Leigh Robertson who owns an academy in Lambertville, NJ where she teaches Capoeira, a form of martial arts combined with music. Capoeira was developed in Brazil by African slaves to resist oppression 400 years ago. Her description of it intrigued me and prompted me to view the many videos posted on her website http://www.newhopecapoeira.com/live/. I couldn’t help but think how this sport/art form could enhance fitness, balance and strength for equestrians. It could also improve the sense of rhythm which is important for all riders.

pa: US drops from FEI Nations Cup Top League - 09/06/11 03:07 AM
Perhaps the weak performance at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky was a prelude as to how the US show jumping team would fare in the 2011 FEI Nations Cup Top League, a series of 8 nations cup competitions throughout Europe. Click here to read more about how the series works: http://www.fei.org/events/series-and-finals/fei-nations-cup%25E2%2584%25A2-series/introduction-and-rules. The final round held in Rotterdam on August 26th sealed our fate as the US finished in 6th place which was not enough to keep our nation in the series for another year. Now we will have to compete in the FEI Promotional League and hope we win

pa: Winter Horse Care - 01/26/11 02:09 PM
Winter is certainly a difficult time for both horses and their owners, especially this winter here in PA. This article will briefly highlight some important tips for you to keep in mind to ensure a happy winter. First of all, the most important thing is to know that during winter months horses consume more calories. Forgetting to account for the body temperature, some owners assume that since horses are not very active during winters, they consume fewer calories. More calories are burnt in order to maintain body temperature and therefore it is absolutely essential to increase the amount of

pa: The Marvelous Marathon (WEG 2010) - 10/10/10 11:46 AM
It was a scorching day on Saturday for the driving marathon (in the mid 80s) but it went without a hitch. Only a few minor mishaps occurred, the usual leg over a tracer here and there. I got to try my hand at timing at obstacle 8. There were about 13 of us helping out at this one obstacle not including the vet and medical staff. Was impressed with all the man power it takes to run a driving marathon. It was a good day for the USA finishing the marathon in 2nd place as a team. Let's hope our luck

pa: Driving at the WEG 2010 - 10/08/10 08:42 AM
Traipsing across the entire show grounds yesterday, I made my way up to the driving stadium to take in some driving dressage just in time to see Chester Weber’s test. Ahh, he makes it look so easy making circles with only one hand holding on to the reins. The “grooms” (I am sure there is another term?) who sit in the back of the carriage seemed to be judged on how still they can sit, the more board-like the higher the score! Chester Weber with his 4-in-hand competing in dressage phase
