A few weeks ago while in New Hope, PA I had the pleasure of meeting, Leigh Robertson who owns an academy in Lambertville, NJ where she teaches Capoeira, a form of martial arts combined with music. Capoeira was developed in Brazil by African slaves to resist oppression 400 years ago. Her description of it intrigued me and prompted me to view the many videos posted on her website http://www.newhopecapoeira.com/live/. I couldn’t help but think how this sport/art form could enhance fitness, balance and strength for equestrians. Perhaps the weak performance at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky was a prelude as to how the US show jumping team would fare in the 2011 FEI Nations Cup Top League, a series of 8 nations cup competitions throughout Europe. It was a scorching day on Saturday for the driving marathon (in the mid 80s) but it went without a hitch. Only a few minor mishaps occurred, the usual leg over a tracer here and there. I got to try my hand at timing at obstacle 8. There were about 13 of us helping out at this one obstacle not including the vet and medical staff. Was impressed with all the man power it takes to run a driving marathon. It was a good day for the USA finishing the marathon in 2nd place as a team. Let's hope our luck … (0 comments)

Traipsing across the entire show grounds yesterday, I made my way up to the driving stadium to take in some driving dressage just in time to see Chester Weber’s test. Ahh, he makes it look so easy making circles with only one hand holding on to the reins. The “grooms” (I am sure there is another term?) who sit in the back of the carriage seemed to be judged on how still they can sit, the more board-like the higher the score!
