Chateau Montelena, one of the Napa Valley's hidden charms and made famous by the Bottle Shock movie - 12/27/11 01:44 PM
This will be a new series for me and all of you who read this blog. Approximately once a month I am going to feature one of my favorite wineries. The first is Chateau Montelena. Chateau Montelena gained its fame in the 1976 Paris Wine Tasting, where their Chardonnay shocked the world (especially the French) by winning best in class in a blind tasting of French and California wines. California wines actually rated best in every class, but it was Montelena who was praised for putting California wines on the map. The story of this victory is frequently told in articles, books and in the Bottle Shock movie but it’s the … (7 comments)

If you happen to be in the Napa Valley on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, here's what is happening - 12/21/11 12:19 PM
I know many of us spent Christmas Eve and Day with family and friends, but there are a few of us who don't. Also, sometimes you might want to fore go cooking and have someone serve you. For those of us who would like this, I have to thank Paul Franson of the Napa Register for his article yesterday listing everything that is open. Here is what he wrote:

Ever thought about staging your home when listing, then you might want to read this post - 12/20/11 09:50 AM
I guess if you wait long enough, there will be a study done for almost everything. Staging is an extremely important tool in selling homes and should be handled by a qualified, professional stager, but it is nice to know there is some scientific basis for how to do so. Granted, most of the 15 points below are common sense and 14 and 15 are a bit dated for today's market. So what makes one staged home stand out over others not done so well, the stager. If you are considering listing and would like an agent who can help prepare your … (0 comments)

Home price expectations moved from negative to positive territory in November for the first time in six months, according to Fannie Mae’s November National Housing Survey. Respondents to the survey said they expect home prices to increase by 0.2 percent over next year.
“Though their home price expectations have become slightly positive, consumers remain concerned about the direction of the economy and continue to view their household finances as being relatively flat,” said Doug Duncan, vice president and chief economist of Fannie Mae. “Most Americans expect no improvement in their personal financial situation in the next 12 months and will likely … (3 comments)

With a home's energy bills continuing to rise and with no end to this in sight, maybe now is the time to consider a do it yourself energy audit. Of course you could hire a professional and may need to but there are quite a few things you can do prior to doing so.
To start you may want to consider where to look?

Cindy Pawlcyn reworks Fish and opens Brassica in the Napa Valley where one can find baba ghanoush - 12/11/11 01:23 PM
I remember first eating at Mustards Grill, Cindy Pawlcyn first restaurant venture here in the Napa Valley. It was an immediate hit and became the in place to eat along with Mama Ninas in Yountville.
Cindy Pawlcyn The food was basically American style but great. The pork chops were heavenly. Since then Cindy has opened two other restaurants here, Cindy's Back Street Kitchen and Fish both in St. Helena.
Fish from its opening never seemed to catch on and had only limited success. To rectify this, she has remodelled the space and open Brassica in the space. Here are some excerpts from … (2 comments)

I just read these facts on one of the blogs I read daily, L. A. Land, and was so taken by the percentage of sugar in these cereals, I felt you might be interesting in seeing this. Though not real estate related, I felt since so many of your child eat cereal on nearly a daily basis, to say nothing about many of the adults reading this, it is good to reminded on how much sugar as a percentage there is.

Iconic Red Hen in the Napa Valley sold to Ken Laird - 12/06/11 12:53 PM
Though quite a long time ago, I can remember my first meal at the original Red Hen. It was one of those family style fried chicken joints which served only chicken which came in one of those plastic red wire baskets. You could get a fried half chicken and fries for about $3.00. Granted it was the early 1970's but this and the Grape Vine Inn were one of the few restaurants on Highway 29. Located on Solano Avenue between Napa and Yountville, the former Red Hen restaurant complex has been purchased by vintner Ken Laird of Laird Family Estate. The … (4 comments)
