March 2010 esidential construction starts rose to 626,000 up more than 16,000 over consensus-the highest neuber of starts since October 2008.
February's housing Residential construction starts was revised upward to 616,000 from 575,000.  
Was this due to pent up demand from the ugly winter weather?

Kudos to Scott Reckard with the LA Times.  He wrote an article today that is sure to open some eyes.  The article, titled "OneWest Bank Profit: $1.6 Billion" does an excellent job of pointing out some very interesting observations.

An article in the Wall Street Journal has reported that Goldman Sachs Group and one of its vice presidents, Fabrice Tourre, have been charged with fraud in a civil complaint filed by the SEC. The complaint alleges that Goldman failed to disclose to purchasers of CDOs, collateralized-debt obligations, that the selection of the underlying mortgage backed securities had been influenced by Paulson & Company. With the bursting of the housing market bubble, the CDO investors lost $1 billion, Paulson raked in profits of $1 billion, and Goldman earned $15 million for handling the transactions.

VHDA change to FHA Plus Program Maximum Loan Amount - 04/16/10 12:02 PM
The Virginia Housing Development Authority is changing the amount available for the second mortgage of the FHA Plus Program.  ·         Borrowers with credit scores between 620 and 679 (or those with no credit score with acceptable non-traditional credit) will be eligible for a second mortgage at a maximum of 3.5% of the lesser of sales price or appraised value. ·         Borrowers with credit scores of 680 and greater will continue to be eligible for a maximum second mortgage of 5% of the lesser of sales price or appraised value. ·         The applicable credit score will be the lower of the middle scores of all … (0 comments)

2010 First Quarter Market Report Summary for Charlottesville, Albemarle and Central Virginia
In the first quarter of 2010, the Charlottesville real estate market continued the trend seen in the fourth quarter of last year. Home sales, compared to the first quarter of 2009, increased slightly. First quarter 2010 total MLS sales of (436) were up 4.3% over the same period in 2009 (418).
This was the second consecutive quarterly year-over-year increase and the second lowest quarterly total in the past 10 years.
