Watching TV and seeing the Angie's List ad for the flooring guy who took twice as long to perform a job because he was watching pay-per-view on the customers' cable made me realize that how our service firms treat our residents is very important to the bottom line of our business. This should be a no-brainer; however, sometimes we need to remember to stress considerate and responsible behavior to our residents with our vendors and service personnel....whether they are inhouse or third party vendors. With my summer move-in/move-outs a week or so away, I'm alerting the vendors and service personnel on my management team about my upcoming needs for their services 1) I have a Class B LICENSED contractor that I use for painting, repairs, blinds - almost everything that does not involve pulling an electric or gas line permit * then he has brothers/cousins/in-law who can do the work. 2) I have an EXCELLENT carpet cleaning business - family owned, come when I call and I provide their card with my move-out instruction letter. 3) I have a GOOD, professional cleaning firm * local … (4 comments)

Although my area of Central VA is still cold and rainy (witness last Sunday's NASCAR race from Martinsville, VA), I'll be preparing my property list this week for our HVAC service co to arrange for their "spring maintenance" AC system check/filter change. I am surprised how many homeowners do not utilize this service when I go to property presentations and I ask them who services your HVAC system?
