In 1982 Knoxville TN was home to the World's Fair. The Sunsphere was designed and erected for the event and still stands in Knoxville TN as the unofficial city symbol. Knoxville, TN has had the tendency to attract lots of visitors and tourists who flock to the area to enjoy the magnificent scenery and visit the multitude of area parks including the Great Smoky Mountains- the most visited National Park in the country. Ever since the 1980's World's Fair was held in Knoxville, TN the city has been trying to figure out to do with the old World's Fair Park area. Over the past few years the Knoxville Convention Center, World's Fair Park Fountains, Knoxville Museum of Art, and the Fort Kid wooden playground have been built to help attract residents and visitors to the downtown area. On Wednesday, July 8th 2009 the city of Knoxville has officially opened Knoxville's newest playground. Yesterday, I took my two Daughters up to Abrams Creeks Campground- a secluded, off the beaten path rugged campground that is part of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This campground is located several miles off the base of US Highway 129- more popularly referred as "The Dragon"- one of the hot spots for motorcyclists due to the seemingly endless high speed twists and turns. We had an enjoyable, but very hot and difficult almost 7 mile hike up and down the Hannah Mountain Trail.
