This is a wonderful annual summer event, held at Beaches Town Center, at the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard & First Street, where Atlantic Beach & Neptune Beach meet. 
I've attended this event for many years and have volunteered at the beer tent for several years (it's not easy work, you have to make sure the beer is cold at the top, middle & bottom of the cup!). Key results: Sales up 19.2 percent year to date and prices up 16.4 percent; one fourth of sales are for more than asking price. Inventory of properties still shrinking.
 
The Northeast Florida Association of Realtors announces real estate market statistics for March 2013. Statistics encompass both single-family residential and condo sales, combined.

If you have ever visited our area for a period of more than one day, chances are good you have been to Pete's Bar.
Pete's is a Neptune Beach icon, and was mentioned by John Grisham in one of his books (sorry, I'm not certain which one).
Pete's Bar has been operating for 80 years on April 27th, and was the first bar to get a liquor license the day Prohibition ended.
Famous for cold beer, strong drinks, and early opening hours, Pete's has 25 cent pool tables, and is a cash only place - they don't take your credit cards!

The weather was all over the place here on Wednesday: we started with sideways rain, and ended with sunshine and gusty winds...far better than other parts of the country, I'm sure.  I managed this cool cloud at about sunset, not far from my house.

neptune beach: Great White Shark, Jacksonville Beach, FL - 01/09/13 06:18 PM

It appears we have a Great White wintering off our coast, as described by the local press as well as OCEARCH, has warned us of the appearance (and now second appearance) of Mary Lee, a 3500 pound Great White. She was GPS tagged, hence we can see her movements. 
Now, considering it isn't summer, there are certainly fewer people in the water, but still...the first Great White? What else will this year bring?

It seems as though all we hear/read about is negative news: plane crashes, job losses, unemployment....
I found this today in the online version of the local newspaper, the Florida Times Union.
I thought this was a fabulous time to share some of the GOOD news we have, in place of the BAD news.

neptune beach: Jacksonville Jaguars Mularkey's Future.... - 12/27/12 06:29 AM
I have been an NFL fan for years. Decades, actually. I grew up in New Jersey, and was fortunate to attend NY Giants games as a kid.....and, even if they lost, I always felt as though they had given their all.
When I moved out, I felt as though I had to have my own team, not the same team as my dad, and chose the Chicago Bears. The 1984-1985 Bears, with Ditka as coach, The SuperBowl Shuffle Bears. Nice timing on my part, eh?

While the news continues that Tim Tebow is not being properly utilized, in fact, at ALL utilized by the NY Jets, we here in Jacksonville, FL have a happy thought that Tim could be coming here to the Jacksonville Jaguars. 
Whether you are a football fan, pro or collegiate, or a Tebow fan, I can say it would be very welcome boost to our team, and NFL pride.

If you haven't been to the Jacksonville Zoo recently, the holidays are a fabulous time to go!  The first annual ZOOLights is this year, starting 12/15/12.  The Zoo has been transformed with thousands of LED lights, making it both a virtual (and today through this weekend with our very cold temps) and real winter wonderland! neptune beach: Winterfest, Adventure Landing, Jacksonville Beach, FL - 12/15/12 07:43 AM
 
Our local Adventure Landing is hosting their second annual Winterfest, including ice skating, and a snow slide. I got to do the snow slide at a Chamber of Commerce event a week ago and it is fun!
Winterfest runs through January 13, 2013.  Adventure Landing is located at 1944 Beach Boulevard, just east of the ICW Bridge on the right hand side.

neptune beach: Best Christmas Lights, Jacksonville, FL - 12/12/12 03:23 PM
This is the time of year when it's so much fun to drive around and look at holiday light decorations!  I have friends who used to hire a limo so we could enjoy some beverages while on the tour. These were reader submitted, I do recall some of the best displays are in the older areas of town, where the homes sit on LARGE lots, and the families honor the annual tradition of putting up lights.

I managed lunch with a good friend and prior buyer in Jacksonville Beach, FL, at a place I had never been to before: Ashe's Tea Room & Boutique. Nestled in a quaint area of antique shops and other small restaurants, it was a nice, relaxing spot. They have full afternoon tea service, and their menu is simple, but delicious.
 
Here is the neighboring table complete with serious china tea cups.
I had the spinach salad with red wine vinaigrette, and chicken salad half sandwich, for $8.95 plus a blend of bamboo & coconut milk tea, which was fabulous!

How long has it been since you had a Whopper?

It's been a while for me, I started "eating clean" this past summer (and lost 15 pounds!) and the only purchae I've made through a drive thru has been a yogurt parfait.  Still, I remember LOVING these....
