beijing: Trip to Beijing day 6 -- The Great Wall of China - 05/21/12 10:02 PM

Day 6  -- The Great Wall of China

I must have been excited.  I woke up at 3:30 AM instead of 5:30 AM…  We were supposed to go with Stephanie, Emil and Jesse but Stephanie was sick and Emil had seen it 3 times.  I sent Randall upstairs to preserve my feet and I bought breakfast to go.  At 5 AM the street venders were already out and I bought 5 tea eggs, 2 sets of buns and a sandwich (veggie) for Emil and Jesse.  Turns out there were only 3 of us so I had too much food.  … (1 comments)

beijing: Trip to Beijing day 5 - 05/21/12 09:45 PM
Today was a slower day…. Stephanie wanted to go to the knock off market for foreigners. It is famous and in the guide book. We (Jesse, Stephanie, Emil and I) hooked up with Daniel Wenz (who we saw before)… Daniel went to school with Stephanie, Jesse and our son Jonathan. We went to a Mexican/Vietnamese restaurant… No kidding…. The Vietnamese food was very good the Mexican food looked suspect to anyone who is only 1 week out of Idaho. We all enjoyed our lunch… Then we marched to the knock off market…Randall and Jesse were miffed about being taken shopping…. Bargaining … (2 comments)

beijing: Trip to Beijing Day 3 - 05/19/12 11:43 AM

Day 3 Trip to China,

Sorry I will have to write the blog a couple of days late because I did so much that I collapsed when I hit the computer.  Also Randall has discovered he can get on second life from my computer and I have it less….

We woke up and I tried the soup everyone seems to be eating.  I think it is called Congee.  It has a mild broth (don’t ask me which type but it is very cheap) with what seems to be soft tofu in it (a lot of it).  Then  you … (3 comments)

beijing: Day 2 in Beijing - 05/16/12 10:27 PM

Today is low key…. The trip to the Forbidden City and the salty food seems to have me in some difficulty.  My feet hurt and my hands are swollen…  So we are going to stay close to “home” today.  We still had a small adventure.

We moved hotels since the one we were staying on was under construction and made me feel a bit like we were going to be the last ones to use the room….  The hotel room is the same price but a bit smaller but much nicer.  The shower has a stall so the … (1 comments)

beijing: you know you are about to leave town when the phone starts ringing.... - 04/27/12 11:35 PM

You know you are about to take a trip when the phone starts ringing and you have more to do than time to do it in.... Wish me luck... May the phone start ringing so I can pay for my trip to China!  I am going to Beijing to see my son and GF!   This is going to be so much fun and so interesting...  I now have to make lists because as we all know business picks up when you are about to go away...  So far I don't have to refer any business out but I think … (1 comments)

beijing: Happy New Year Everyone and my fondue recepe - 01/01/12 03:40 PM

I want to wish you a Happy New Year from Boise Idaho!  I celebrated as I ussually do with family members (who are in town) and a few friends... This year seemed a little sadder since 2 of our 3 sons were in other countries.  My eldest skyped us at 11:50 PM Boise time with a video call from Beijing and we shared the New Year with him.  My other son was fast asleep in Cambridge by the time we had our New Year.   I always make a cheese fondue and a few other appetizers...My middle son brought cheese fondue … (0 comments)
