Why is it logical for the Government to be in debt but not us? - 12/28/08 04:16 PM
I have been listening to the talking heads on TV recently talk about the economic crisis and many of them are proposing the need for the government to embark on a huge spending program somewhat like the new deal of yesteryear.  The spending would be for many things and in essence would provide jobs and jumpstart the economy.
But part of my confusion is that the average American family did exactly that, spending its way into debt.  Of course, the result is the problem we are now facing.
The citizens of America have seen a reduction in real ages over the … (0 comments)

Banks need to rewrite, not foreclose - 12/28/08 04:13 PM
The housing market in America has fallen to such a point were in many areas, the number of foreclosures on the market, literally make up the local market.  These foreclosures have destroyed the values in the areas affected and have caused millions of Americans to live in homes that have lost tremendous value and may even be underwater as to the mortgage.
The simplest way to stop the carnage would be for all lien holders to reduce the principal and interest rates on all distressed properties.  This would allow homeowners the option of staying in homes that are underwater and would … (0 comments)

The Government is a big Ponzi scheme - 12/28/08 04:11 PM
The buzz on the financial and news channels is the 50 billion dollar Ponzi scheme that has caught up many rich people, charities, and endowments.  The government agencies that are tasked to keep these things from happening have vowed to investigate.   But what if the ones investigating are part of a Ponzi scheme themselves?
The government is always looking for new investors (taxpayers) to help provide the capitol required to pay the returns demanded by the earlier investors.  The new investors are promised all sorts of returns from social security payments, healthcare, etc.  As the pay outs continue, it gets harder … (0 comments)

I am qualified to be in the New York Senate - 12/28/08 04:09 PM
Okay, here are my qualifications:

I understand that the government is supposed to be for the people, by people.  Since I am actually "one of the people"  I understand the needs of the people more than a Kennedy that lives in a private compound with out of touch rich people.
I actually have worked for a living.  I have paid taxes, paid for  health care, and owned a small business.  I have not though had the time to work for a non profit, follow family members around when they are campaigning nor have I worked for a political committee, think … (0 comments)

Maybe we need to get rid of some customers. - 12/28/08 04:06 PM
One of the great things about being a Realtor is that you can help people achieve their dreams concerning real estate.  But what should we do about the demanding customer?
I have some examples of how we put ourselves in positions that we can't win.  For example, what do you do about the customer that sees a home on line and wants more information.  They email you and tell you that they were looking online and saw the listing at 123 Main St.  They want you to go by and look at the home and give them information about how close … (0 comments)

So you don't like football? - 12/28/08 04:02 PM
Sundays in the December mean the end of the regular season for the National Football League and this Sunday there are plenty of games that have playoff implications.
But for those that don't like football, here is your lineup from Time Warner.
Spend some time and look at buying the world's best air cleaner, or maybe look at purchasing a miracle cure for  arthritis, a wonder clothes hanger, stick up light, and maybe get your colon cleaned.
For those that really like commercials, see just about every human condition taken care of by the new medicines on the market.  How about … (0 comments)

Bank Failures do Affect You! - 12/28/08 03:59 PM
As we see more banks fail, the concern by the media and talking heads is misguided in that they focus on the deposits of the citizens in the failed banks.  Of course the deposits are protected by the FDIC and most Americans do not have more than $250,000 in liquid deposits.

The long term concern should be the lack of  competition for financial products and the costs to Americans for those products going forward.   With less competition prices will go up for us further padding the banks profits.  Also the relationships between the remaining banks and financial services companies will … (0 comments)

Why doesn't Main Street get Bailed out? - 12/14/08 06:45 PM
All last week the buzz was about the auto makers and their proposed bailout.  in the end, the Senate refused to give them money based on an incomplete business plan.  Most Americans are against the bailout thinking that the unions are making too much money and costing the companies their ability to survive.  The big argument is that thousands in not millions of jobs would be lost.  But any plan that makes sense for the companies surviving involves cut backs in production so the jobs would be lost anyway.  The real losses will come from suppliers, they have no voice and … (1 comments)

Democrats give Unions their voting payoff! - 12/07/08 12:32 PM
The Democrats on the Hill are pretty much toeing the political line when giving the big three auto makers approx. 15,000000000 dollars to survive the next few months.   In the same way the Republicans and some Democrats gave the banks money to protect  special interests, the real issue isn't about the companies, its about  the unions that vote for Democrats.
Most Americans could come up with simple plans to save the companies or jobs such as a planned bankruptcy, complete government takeover( the companies net worth is probably less than what we will give them) or just extended benefits and training … (0 comments)

The Federal Reserve is Owned by Banks! - 12/07/08 12:20 PM
From Wikipedia:
The Federal Reserve System (also the Federal Reserve; informally The Fed) is the central banking system of the United States. Created in 1913 by the enactment of the Federal Reserve Act, it is a quasi-public (government entity with private components) banking system[1] composed of (1) the presidentially appointed Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C.; (2) the Federal Open Market Committee; (3) twelve regional Federal Reserve Banks located in major cities throughout the nation acting as fiscal agents for the U.S. Treasury, each with its own nine-member board of directors; (4) numerous private U.S. member … (0 comments)

App. State falls to Richmond - 12/07/08 12:16 PM
On a cold and snowy day in Boone, North Carolina, the three time defending Appalachian State Mountaineers lost their quarterfinal game with the Richmond Spiders, 33-13.
The game marked the end of the record 13 game post game winning streak by the Mountaineers and pushed Richmond into the semifinals of the Football Championship Series.
Richmond played with poise through out the game on a field where Appalachian was virtually unbeatable.   With turnovers being the key, the Mountaineers dug a hole they couldn't get out of.
Hats off the to the Spiders, and good luck next week in the tournament.  As to … (0 comments)

Appalachian State vs Richmond Today! - 12/06/08 08:32 AM
Appalachian State Mountaineers vs the Richmond Spiders
The three time defending champions of the Football Championship Series, known as the FCS, are coming off a great season and first round match up with South Carolina State that was played in Boone last week.  After a slow first half, the Mountaineers pulled away in the second half and won 37-21.  The star for Appalachian was Armanti Edwards who racked up NCAA record 433 yards passing.
Today's game with Richmond is a rematch of a game played last year in the semifinals in which Appalachian won 55-35.  Expect cold weather and a sellout … (0 comments)

Wall Mart is shutting down! - 12/05/08 10:32 PM
Okay, maybe not today, but what if is did?  I was watching a movie tonight, War of the Worlds, the old movie about an alien invasion and thought what would it be like if we had such an event today.  We all know that our world has been turned upside down by the down economy, caused by what most people would say is simple greed by a few.
But is this really such a bad time?  Can you handle less than two dollar gas?  How about food in all the stores?  Do you still have cable, electric power, heat, and a … (0 comments)

Christmas Coupons are here - 12/05/08 10:29 PM
Why do we always want the ever present coupon?  We think we are saving something, usually money.  But have you ever thought that the companies giving the coupons understand marketing better than you do?
Every dime that is given away in coupons is more than made up with additional purchases that come with the visit to the store.  The items are still profitable to the company and many other items are at or above full price.
Just don't get to crazy about coupons,  do your homework and make sure you are buying quality instead of the latest fad.

12 Days of Christmas - 12/05/08 10:28 PM
As I was sitting by  the fire, drinking my favorite brandy, I thought I would tell the story of the Sellers 12 Days of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas my Realtor gave to me, a bird house for the backyard tree.
On the second day of Christmas my Realtor gave to me, two  beautiful poinsettias and a bird house for the backyard tree.
On the third day of Christmas, my Realtor gave to me, three forms to fill out, two beautiful poison plants and a dumb birdhouse for the backyard tree.
On the fourth day of Christmas, my … (0 comments)

Is the economy getting you down - 12/05/08 10:25 PM
I bet there are millions of people that are currently wondering what the heck is going on.  I mean, just a few months ago, things weren't all that bad, most had good years before last year and now, feel like they got slapped in the face.
If this is you, let me pose this question.  How are you supposed to act when the system is rigged against you?    You work hard and expect fair play from your government and others.
But what should you do when you have no voice in things?  Your government wastes money on special interests, your rights … (0 comments)

What it takes to be a friend - 12/05/08 10:23 PM
I received a call this evening from a friend that was concerned about me because I had missed an appointment with him and didn't call him about it.  His call was not about how rude I was because I was the guilty party, but because he knew that I had  a family member in the hospital and that it was a tough time in my household.

He could have asked me about my rudeness and chastised me, but he is truly one of those special people in this world.  His comments were about my health, my family, and my business.

Big Three Autos -Bailout at expense of Small Business Owner! - 12/05/08 06:39 AM
Politics as usual in Washington when the big three auto execs talk on the hill.  I suspect the cost of all these hearings are going to run in the millions and in the end, the Bush administration is going to force the Democrats to bail them out as a last gesture for future political fodder for the Republicans.  If the bailout is to protect the auto workers, read in union, then once again the average citizen is screwed.
The point is that no proof has been offered that Americans need 25 or more models of cars.  There is an over supply … (0 comments)

Are we just fooling ourselves? - 12/04/08 07:17 AM
The real estate industry has seen a tremendous change in the last few years, and it seems that many real estate professionals still are focused on the "market."  But what other things have happened to dramatically alter the way we do business.  If we look back at history, we could clearly see that going forward the industry is going to have to change to meet the demands of the consumer.
I would like to point out items that now are coming back to haunt the profession.  First off, the basic framework of buyer representation that was enacted a few years ago … (0 comments)
