Lakewood is still to this day one of the treasures of the intown neighborhoods in Dallas. In the 1920's and 1930's, Lakewood was the most exclusive area in the city. Dallas' business elite built homes in Lakewood and made it "the" place to live.
There is a strong architectural history in Lakewood which has some of the finest examples of French Eclectic English Tudor, Colonial Revival and Spanish Eclectic. Albert Dines and Lee Kraft (Dines & Kraft) were major developers of the area. They built many landmark homes in the Country Club Estates area of the neighborhood.
