1) Hillcrest Easter Egg Hunt – Saturday, April 23rd

Come support the Big Lake Fire Department this Saturday, March 5^th from 7-11am at the fire hall for their pancake breakfast fundraiser.

10% of the proceeds will go to benefit the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk for the cure in memory of Melody Barone. The remainder of funds will go to benefit our wonderful Big Lake Fire Department to purchase equipment. So bring a donation and an appetite!!!

There is still time to help those around Skagit Valley this holiday season. By donating to the Skagit Valley Herald Christmas Fund it will help make a big difference in the lives of those in our community this Christmas season. And toys are definitely still very much needed! So join us in donating to the Skagit Valley Herald Christmas Fund and help make this a memorable holiday that everyone can truly enjoy!

Donations are still needed for the following age groups:

Infants - Under age 3

Pre-teen and Teenage boys & girls, aged 11-17 years old

(These two age groups have the shortest supply. Here are some ideas for gifts)

Toys can be dropped off at Skagit Publishing, 1215 Anderson Road, until 5 p.m. this Friday, December 10th. You can also drop off toys at at any local Marine Toys for Tots drop‐off location. Distribution day is December 16-17th.

New this year is the ability to donate online to the SVH Christmas Fund. So if you are unable to purchase a toy and drop off but want to contribute you can donate online through the SVH's PayPal Account.

Another wonderful option for those that can give a little more this holiday season is to sponsor an entire family. In doing so, it will help provide a meal and gifts for an entire family that is in need. Read here for more information about Sponsoring a Family.

1) Mean Girls

This week only, come check out the Sedro-Woolley High School’s production of “Mean Girls,” based on the 2004 hit comedy movie. The SWHS “Mean Girls” production runs from November 16th-20th. Doors to the auditorium will open each night at 6:30 and the curtain call is at 7pm. Admission is $5 for Students/Seniors and $7 for General Admission. Come support this amazing cast of students and the drama department at Sedro-Woolley High School!

2) BIG, The Musical!

Based on the 1987 hit movie this wonderful show at McIntyre Hall runs this weekend the 19th -21st, along with next weekend the 26th thru the 28th. In addition, one mid-week show will take place on Wednesday the 24th. Donations of unwrapped toys are being accepted/collected at the front door for the Skagit Valley Herald Christmas Fund. Today we honor and salute all the brave men and women who have served in the US Military past and present. In choosing to serve, many of you have made the ultimate sacrifice. We as Americans are eternally grateful for your willingness to put your lives on the line to defend our country and protect the freedoms which we all enjoy .

We thank you for your courage and your unparalleled selflessness to put the lives of others ahead of yourselves. We owe so much to you each and every one of you. Each of you are true American Heroes.

Today we embrace and honor those who have served and are still here with us and remember and pay tribute to the brave souls that we have lost. And to all of the incredible veterans, we simply do not say this enough; THANK YOU!

NW Hotsprings presents Leroy Bell & His Only Friends for Toys for Tot’s Benefit

On November 20th, Northwest Hot Springs is sponsoring a benefit concert for Toys for Tots at the Historic Lincoln Theatre in downtown Mt. Vernon. As we all know current times are extremely tough especially during the holidays. And every year the list of children in need is greater than the year before. This concert hopes to greatly benefit and support all of our local children so that they can enjoy a wonderful holiday. To make this event truly remarkable, please show your support by bringing an unwrapped toy as a donation. So grab your friends, bring some toys and head on down for a great evening of entertainment! Together we can work to truly make a difference in the lives of others! Tickets are on sale now via the Lincoln Theatre. Doors for this Event will open at 6pm, with the concert starting at 7. 3) La Conner Quilt Fest 2010.

Come support this major fundraiser for the La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum this weekend October 1st-3rd, 9:30am- 5:30pm in La Conner. Don't forget to bring your flags with you as we join together in Big Lake for this evening of remembrance.

Couldn't help but share these recent darling pictures of my niece!

My little niece Elle Rose just celebrated her 1^stBirthday this past week on September 2nd! And as an extremely proud auntie I couldn't feel more blessed to have such a precious, sweet little girl in my life! She is just an absolute doll. It is so amazing to watch her grow and change as the days and months pass and I look forward to this next year ahead.

I just wish she didn't live so far away - as the trek from Mt. Vernon, WA. To Chico, California is quite the haul. Luckily for us our weekly Skype date allows us to interact no matter how far we are apart - Seeing her makes me smile!!!!

The doe couldn't have picked a better night for a snack by the water as it was again another absolutely beautiful night with a glowing summer sunset in the backdrop!

And there must be something in the water! As these two were headed up my driveway Monday afternoon!

It's shaping up to be one of the busiest weekends of the year for the town of Concrete! So if you are looking for something to do this weekend why not head up highway 20 and enjoy the festivities of the Annual Concrete Fly-In or the Concrete Street Fair, also known as the Cement City Street Fair.

The Annual Fly-In, featuring 120+ planes and a weekend full of events will run all day today and continuing on through Sunday at Mears Field in Concrete.

The Cement City Street Fair will take place Saturday from 9-4pm on Main Street. Featuring arts & crafts, a music and poetry festival, and a motorcycle show, there are countless activities for visitors to enjoy!

The recent addition of the "Spray Park" at the new Kiwanis Park in Mount Vernon has been quite the hit! With the recent spikes in temperature the new Mount Vernon Park has been flooded with children and families taking advantage of the spray park as a means to cool off from the heat. Located just off the corner of Broadway and 18th Street this Mount Vernon Park is the perfect place to have lunch, splash around in the water and just have some great family fun!

The Kiwanis Spray Park is open daily from 11am to 6pm daily.

Directions to the Kiwanis Spray Park in Mount Vernon:

Head east on E. College Way, Turn right at N. 18^th St (College Food Mart /Gas Station/Little Caesar's), Continue on N. 18^th with becomes S. 18^th St., Park will then be on the left hand side of the street.

Take a Bite out of Hunger at the 2^ndAnnual Bite of Skagit!

Next Saturday on July 31^st the Skagit Food Share Alliance will host the 2^ndAnnual Bite of Skagit fundraising event in downtown Mount Vernon aimed at supporting local agriculture and working to stamp out hunger in the process. The funds raised at the Annual Bite of Skagit will then be used to help support our 13 local food banks here in Skagit Valley by the acquisition and donation of local produce going to benefit those individuals and families in need.

Featuring live music, special guest Graham Kerr and countless food and beverage vendors this event is on its way to becoming the next summertime staple here in Skagit Valley. The event runs from 12-4pm and admission is free. Tickets for food & drinks will be available to purchase on site.

You are also encouraged and welcome to bring along donations with you that will be added to the donations to the food banks.

And new this year -The Bite of Skagit is being held in conjunction with the Mount Vernon Sidewalk Sale! So don't miss out on doing a little browsing & shopping once your downtown!

So come support this great fundraising event and have a little fun in the process! Together we can all make a difference and make a positive contribution to the Skagit Food Share Alliance's ultimate goal in "Supporting local agriculture; ending local hunger."
