Recap of the Power Series for 2007 - 12/31/07 09:04 AM
I decided that I would take a group all the Power Quote Series onto one BLOG for all to be able to access easily. Going forward, I will be doing this for every month to group them together. If there is a special topic of inspiration that anyone would like for me to focus on for a week of the series, please let me know. I have hyper linked all of them below.
I also want to thank every one that comes by to read this series because without you, there would not be one.

Power Series 12/31/2007 - Competition - 12/31/07 08:42 AM
Competition brings out the best in most of us. For some, it brings out the worst and those people stoop to levels unacceptable. I got into the financial industry over 20 years ago and when I did I told myself at that time, regardless of what I was doing, I was not going to be a "mudslinger". When I was a CFO for a company about 8 years ago, one of the things that I hated was a saleman that would call me up and slam his/her competition. It just shows the lack of selling ability to me.
In light of competition, … (2 comments)

The Hunter and the Funeral Procession - 12/29/07 01:15 PM
The winter months seems to bring out the best in most people. This is no different in the story of the hunter and the funeral procession. When I got to the end, I never expected what I read. I hope that this will bring a smile to your face once again today.
A hunter and his friend were sitting in a tall tower stand near highway 481 in Maverick Co., TX, early one cold December morning. Suddenly, a huge buck walked out over the corn they had spread in the shrub with a tailgate feeder. The buck was magnificent......a once in a … (10 comments)

I realized my purpose in life today. - 12/28/07 08:33 AM
I realized my purpose in life today. It took me 41 years, 5 months, and so odd hours to figure it out, but when I did it hit me like a ton of bricks.
I have this knack usually for no matter what is going on in my life to look at the sunny side of it. I guess I was put on here to make people smile. To show people that there is an upbeat side to every situation no matter how grim it is.
Now, do not get me wrong, I have had some rough times. But through it all, … (27 comments)

Power Quotes Series - 12/28/2007 - 12/28/07 08:04 AM
As I sit in my Breakfast nook writing, I gaze out the window at the gray sky and watch the rain fall on the patio furniture. Yep, today is going to be a WONDERFULLY AWESOME day. And you know why? Because I control my joy and I will not let the weather, the traffic, or any one steal my joy. I hope that each and every one of you feel the same way.

Grandma on Birth Control. (Today's funny) - 12/27/07 10:07 AM
If you are like me, you love your Grandmothers. When mine was alive, I always looked forward to Sunday dinner at her house or the great grandmother's home. I could not wait to bite into one of her home made biscuits or the fried chicken.
Today, I was sent this hilarious joke about a Grandmother and I had to share it with all my ActiveRain friends. I hope that you find it as funny as I did.

Let me help you laugh. ( A Paying it Forward Production) - 12/26/07 04:21 PM
Too many times we get caught up in the Doom and Gloom world that we live in and sometimes we need to get out of that doom and gloom place. i went looking for something to laugh at today and decided that I wanted to put together a collection of some of the funniest things that I have seen since coming to ActiveRain. I wanted to just run a blog that had nothing to do with our industy and find things that wouldmake people laugh.
So, lets get this started.

Power Quotes Series - 12/26/2007 - 12/26/07 11:01 AM
I have been running behind today and did not put this out. I can also tell that my day has been crappy from the get go and I can contribute that to not having read this powerful motivational quotes. but, just like Popeye eating his spinach, I am now revived and rejuiced and ready to face the world today. all I can say is "Bring it on".

Today is a sad day - 12/25/07 08:42 AM
First off, let me say that I am sorry to have to be writing this to you today.
For all the ones that read my BLOG Don't Take The Girl you know what I have been dealing with over the last 9 days. Well, this is not going to be the easiest write that I have ever done here, but probably one of the shortest. Nothing fancy, nothing elaborate.
This morning around 12:15 AM EST, I got the call. They told me how peaseful that it was for her. I could here the hurt in their voices as they said the typical statements. … (51 comments)

The night before Christmas (the doggie version) - 12/24/07 10:36 PM
THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS by Clement Clarke MooreAdapted by Danny Thornton 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even the puppies; The stockings were hung on the mantle of the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The puppies were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of doggie treats danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from … (13 comments)

Give Me Something to Believe In - 12/22/07 08:15 AM
First off, I want to thank the creators of Inspired By Song! for creating this awesome group. Adam Waldman along with his other two Horsemen, Jason Crouch & Paul Slaybaugh, put together a great forum here for all the music lovers to work within. Each of the culprits are picture below and if you encounter them, approach with caution as they are extremely harmless.

OK, time to get back on track now that I have paid homage to the Forum Lords.

Power Quotes - More Inspiration for Success - 12/21/2007 - 12/21/07 07:54 AM
Keeping with the theme from Wednesday's edition, I decided to stick with the inspirational quotes on success. I also used 5 this time as opposed to the normal 3 that I generally add. I hope out of these you can find one that will make your day or inspire you to do a better job. If not, the please visit yesterday's BLOG of ActiveRain had a bad day. I am sure that will help to get the mind set right for you.

The Origin of my screen name. - 12/20/07 09:44 AM
Some people have inquired to where my screen name came from after the Inspired by Song contest in December. So, to satisfy those wretched souls, the song was originally put out in 1997 by Chumbawamba in 1997 under title "Tubthumping", I think that people know it better as "I get knocked Down", but I attached the video for all to enjoy.
The name was tagged to me by friends when I was living in the Atlanta area. The local Pub that I hung out at would actually greet me as Danny Boy. Since that time, it stuck with me.

Tombstone - A Movie Review - 12/19/07 12:40 PM

OK, I know this movie was put out in 1993, however, I watched it again last night. This was packed with movie stars galore. Starring Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp, Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday, Sam Elliot as Virgil Earp. Below, you can see an entire list of ast and their parts.

As many of you know, this is set back in the late 1800's. This movie starts with Wyatt being a retired Marshall and taking refuge in Tombstone for retirement. Him, along with his 2 brothers take over dealing at the local salon and soon meet up with … (38 comments)

Power Qoutes: Success - 12/19/2007 Edition - 12/19/07 07:16 AM
THis morning's theme is a simple one: Success.
This is the one thing that people strive for all their life. Some people achieve it, some fall short of it. I think that people judge success in different manners.
There are many different levels of success also. One has to gauge their own level.
Do not let success rule your life, instead rule your life with success.
We are all motivated by a keen desire for praise, and the better a man is, the more he is inspired to glory. Cicero
Along with success comes a reputation for wisdom. Euripides

Power Quotes Series: Looking for Inspiration - 12-17-2007 - 12/17/07 08:49 AM
With all the chaos that has been in my life recently, I decide to look elsewhere for some inspiration this morning to write about. It did not take me long to come across these very potent, very powerful quotes that pierce my inner soul and spirit as I sat and read them. I hope that the also can bring something to you this wonderful day.

A Tribute to Dan Fogelberg - 12/17/07 08:42 AM
Dan Fogelberg is dead at age 56. I did not know this until Linda Frutal actually said something to me last night during a conversation. It is sad when a musical legend is lost. Two songs can to mind when I heard the news.
The first and foremost that I remember Was Leader of the Band and the second one was Run of the Roses.
It is hard to believe at age 56, he is gone. We will never again here this great artist perform live.
In a tribute to him, I have attached both these songs here for your listening … (15 comments)

Don't Take The Girl - 12/16/07 09:09 PM
Tonight, as I sat watching the Sunday Night Football game, my phone rang. At first, I did not recognize the number. Reluctantly, I decided to answer it. I recognized the prefix as being from California, so I knew that it could not be a customer. As I answer it, the voice on the other end sounded a little shaky at best. It was a former colleague of mine from a former job. As he started talking and telling me of the issues that he and his wife have recently encountered, it made me think of this song. I could hear the … (49 comments)

Wind of Change - 12/15/07 09:26 PM
It is time for a change. I see it daily and I choose to say nothing about it. Today, I have to change.
It is time for a change. I hear about it daily and I choose to say nothing about it. Today, I have to change.
It is time for a change. I smell it daily and yet, I choose not to do anything about it. Today, I have to change.
What is this change I am speaking of you ask? It is how we treat Mother Earth.

Power Quotes Series: The morning Edition 12/14/2007 - 12/14/07 09:16 AM
Today's edition of inspirational quotes takes me down a different road. I wanted to bring out some things that are not commonly heard, yet will make you stop to think. To me, I like the Alfred Adler quote the best. With that said, all four of them spoke to me this morning. I hope they inspire you this morning too.

Mitchell report list 89 names in Baseball - 12/13/07 07:31 PM
89 players were named on Mitchell's report. It is a shame that it came to this, but it is evident that people in this great sport decide that they need an advantage. Some of the names that jump out to me are Rick Ankiel who could not make it as a pitcher, so St Louis sent him down and rebuilt him as an outfielder. He then gets back to the BIG SHOW and hits his first home run. Guess there is an * going in by that one.
Since baseball means so much to me, it is hard to swallow some of … (23 comments)

NFL week in review - 12/13/07 09:52 AM
Talk about a bad week for the Atlanta Falcons. They can not seem to win a game and then Michael Vick gets 23 months for being the ring leader to the dog fighting, and then the proverbial "spit in your wounds" was given cowardly by Petrino. For goodness sake, the man could not even resign to his players, he had to do with with a form letter that had a stamped signature. OMG, are you scared? Well, that is another rant in itself and you can check out the blog written on that subject. I listed it below with it's author.

Today, I wept. - 12/11/07 07:46 AM

Today, I wept for America.
I wept for the poor, and I wept for the rich,
I wept for the homeless, and I wept for the people that live in mansions,
I wept for the weak, and I wept for the strong.
I wept for the religious people, and I wept for the non religious ones.
I wept for the abused, and I wept for the abusers.
I wept for the criminals, and I wept for the victims.
I wept for the abused animals, and I wept for the animal abusers.
I wept for sick children, and I wept for the selfish children.

Power Quotes Series 12-10-2007 - 12/10/07 09:19 AM
As we start our week out, let's wipe the sleepiness from our eyes, brush away all the worries and cares from the weekend, and start today out on a positive note. It usually does not take much to send our days into disarray. Hopefully, we can get all the issues of the day back in order and hope that it stays that way.
Just remember this, no matter what you are going through in this time of pain, your faith is what will see you through.

The little children - A Tribute to PowerSource - 12/09/07 08:21 PM
Before you start to read this, let me say this is not for the weak at heart. When I hear this song, I just want to cry. It is sad that this happens in our country. Just a warning, this video is graphic. "Dear Mr. Jesus", sung by Sharon Batts at the age of 9 years old, is one of the most touching songs that I can ever remember hearing. It touches on a subject that seems to be one that everyone walks away from. Writing this is not easy, but I think that we all can use a reminder every … (19 comments)

A day of upsets in the NFL? - 12/09/07 01:28 PM
As I watch the first half of the NFL, I ponder, is today a day of upsets? One has to wonder. Currently, Philly is leading the Giants. Eli is having a typical day. But the surprise is the Detroit Lions. Currently, it is 20 to 7 with Dallas knocking on the door. However, the Lions are currently ahead. Now, we all know that there is still another half to go, but one might think, it could be a day for upsets. … (19 comments)

Power Quote Series: 12-07-07 Edition - 12/07/07 08:10 AM
This morning, I thought that I would give a little different of a twist. For some of you, you probably have never heard these quotes. They all have POWER in them to motivate people. Almost everything we do in life is motivation to someone and some things we do in life is demovitivation to some people. Which side do you wish to portray today? I know which one I try to accomplish.

Funny things said by Sports Figures - 12/05/07 08:04 AM
I did one of these before a month ago and everyone loved it. It is amazing what people will say when a microphone is put in front of them. When I read these quotes, I knew that I had to share them with all the people here in ActiveRain and for that matter, anyone that reads my BLOGs. (That would be everyone in the world, right? Just Kidding) Anyways, I hope that you get as much laughter out of these as I did.
PS, if you do not understand any of them, contact BLR GUY and he can explain each one, LOL.

Power Quotes Series: 12/05/07 The Sports Edition - 12/05/07 07:59 AM
The other day a fellow ActiveRainer made a comment asking when I was going to use some inspirational quotes from prominent sports figures. It is funny ho once a series gets going that people can read your mind about what you are going to post.
PS. Please remember that this series is published every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday for your enjoyment.

Let's Band together as a community and Help our Troops - 12/04/07 07:20 AM

Regardless weather you agree with what the President is doing with the war in Iraq or not, our troops are over there giving their lives daily. Some of these people are on their 7th tour of duty. A lot have not seen their family for a year. Think if this was you, how would you feel? Some of these people might not even get a card or letter during the Holiday season unless you act. The Power Quote Series. 12-03-2007 - 12/03/07 12:46 PM
In light of this morning's blog, I thought that I would find some inspirational qoutes to go along with it. It is not always what you say that gets it in trouble but sometimes how you say it. Beliefs and opinions are great to have but not always great to share. And I know as well as anyone, America is the land of the free and we have freedom of speach and all that great stuff. But, read into that a little more. it says the land of the free, this means, we get to make our own choices.

College game of the week - 12/01/07 07:37 PM
Oklahoma University Sooner's has its hands full trying to up-seed the number 1 BCS Missouri University Tigers tonight at 8 pm EST on ABC. The tigers were impressive with a win over #2 Kansas a week ago. With that said, OU handed Oklahoma State a butt whipping last week also with a 49-17 victory.

I think that anyone that thinks this will be a cake walk for the tigers needs to wake up. Your team is in for a dog fight all night is my belief.
I predict that OU walks out on top 27 to 24 victors.
