July 31st signifies the "no waiver" trade deadline. After that, you can still do a trade but the player has to clear waivers first. Tough chance on getting that done this year. And the reason for that is because I do not think that there is any team out there that does not need help. In the American League, you have the Yankees , Rays , and the Red Sox all in a fight for the lead in the East. In the Central, you are looking at the White Sox and the Twins fighting for the lead. Some say that

baseball: Baseball highlights - version 6.29 - 06/29/08 02:05 PM
Sports has never ceased to amaze me with some of the rules that they put in place. Let me give you a great example of such a rule that MLB instituted a few years ago. It goes something like this. If a team allows no hits for an amount of 8 innings, yet does not pitch a ninth inning, then they have not thrown a no hitter. Whoever decided to make that rule up must have been no-hit a few times in their lifespan and still won but was sick of having the no-hitter labeled against them. For all you great

baseball: Georgia Bulldogs looking to clinch - 06/24/08 10:38 AM
If you have been following any of my sports post lately, you know that the Georgia Bulldogs are on a tear right now. Since entering the final stages of the 2008 Men's College World Series being held at Omaha's Johnny Rosenblatt's Stadium, The Bulldogs of Georgia remain undefeated. With that said, the road has not always been peachy for them. Let's take a review. Georgia played in the SEC tournament and was pretty much a no show there. They were knocked out in the first round. Ole Miss put them out in the first round of the Losers bracket. With that

Ok, so you can say that I have been really falling down on doing this post and there is really no excuses that will suffice. No excuses, just time to get back on track. Going forward just know that every Sunday you can come here to get you dose of Baseball talk. Play the video to the right and let the music be your background as you read my thoughts.. With the close approaching All Star game and the baseball draft that just passed, I thought that it would be good to turn our views over to college baseball as the

baseball: You Make the Call - 06/06/08 10:39 PM
Tonight I was laying in bed and saw this video on the 11 o'clock news. After seeing it, I have to say that it looks pretty obvious as to what transpires here. With that said, I will leave it for you to decide. Did the pitcher and cather decide to play "catch" with the umpire or is this just the case of one getting away. I won't share my thoughts just yet. baseball: Mets Meltdown in Atlanta - 05/22/08 09:39 PM
Earlier tonight I wrote a post on my other blog entitled Braves Attempt to sweep Mets tonight. Well, it is no longer an attempt as they withstood the test of Johan Santana and the New York Mets as they spin off yet another home win to lead all the majors for home victories. What really gets me is the fact that everyone was practically handing the Mets the Nation League East Pennant when they signed Santana and stating that he would be the next big thing in New York to bring home a World Series Trophy. But, that is not

baseball: Road Woes Continue - 05/11/08 10:09 AM
The Atlanta Braves enjoy the confines of Turner Field this year. This is something that they could not say last year. Currently leading the majors with a 14 - 4 home stand record, the Atlanta Braves could be enjoying success if they could just figure out how to win on the road. With an almost identically backwards record on the road of 4 - 13, it does not take one long to figure why these guys are not on top. Soon, and very soon, they will figure it out and then and only then will teams fear the day that the

baseball: Braves Baseball - 05/08/08 05:23 PM
Can any team be hotter than the Atlanta Braves? With Chipper Jones and Manny Acosta providing the power in hitting and closing, the Braves are on a roll like you have never seen before. As for the pitching, the Braves have currently on the DL Mike Gonzalez, Mike Hampton, Anthony Lerew, Peter Moylan, John Smoltz, Rafael Soriano. These 6 pitchers were figured in to be big parts of the plans this year. The Braves have enjoyed success on the most recent home stand but it still seems like it is all for naught as they still remain 3rd in their division.

baseball: John Smoltz makes history. - 04/23/08 07:44 PM
Last night I got to witness a piece of baseball history as John Smoltz racked up his 3000th strikeout. Now, to put this into perspective, there are only 15 other pitchers to ever accomplish this feat. I have to tell you whether you like the braves or not, you have to tip you hat to this man because he is truly an ambassador to the game of baseball. I have added a video and the new list of the top 16 to achieve this.

baseball: Baseball highlights - version 4.21 - 04/21/08 06:05 PM
I really have not been able to do this series the way that I would like with my move in process to Tennessee. But after this week is over, I am sure that I will get my feet back under me and back to my regular blogging pace. With that said, lets take a look at the standings and the individual leaders in the leagues. I will bring out the teams that are 600 or higher or at least leading their division. First, lets break down the American League. In the East, Boston is back on top as they have out paced

Sorry that this is late. And on top of that, it is going to be short and sweet as I am in the middle of selling my house, packing, having an estate sale, and working. What else can I take on. On yeah, blogging on ActiveRain. LOL. With that said, lets see if we can get this party started. The season of baseball has gotten underway and we are in full swing. Some teams are looking like they are in their mid-season playing shape and some teams looks like they are struggling to get out the gate. Lets take a look

baseball: Baseball highlights - version 3.30 - 03/30/08 12:16 PM
With the Japan series behind us and three spring training games left over for today, Major League Baseball is set for the "Real" Opening Day. And how fitting is it that opening day is held in the nations capital as the Washington Nationsls take on the Atlanta Braves. For many years it was tradition that the Cincinnati Reds got the distinction of opening day, but I think that this is a fitting opening for the nation. Tonight's game will be broadcast on ESPN at 8:05 EST. So many teams this year have changed the look of their stadiums that I could

baseball: Baseball - Opening Day - 03/28/08 11:25 AM
This years opening day actually took place overseas in Japan and pitted the Oakland Athletics against the Boston Red Sox in a 2 game series that saw each team come away with a victory. With that being said, the Opening Day game here in the United States will pit the Atlanta Braves against the Washington Nationals. How fitting to have America's team go up against the Nation's capital's team. Atlanta will be sending right hander Tim Hudson to the mound to square off against the former Atlanta Braves left hander Odalis Perez. Both pitchers are looking good and both teams are

baseball: Baseball highlights - version 3.23 - 03/23/08 11:59 AM
This week, I would like to discuss something that really made me think about baseball and how some players view the game. Now, mind you, I am not a huge Red Sox fan, but after having lived in the Ft Myers Florida area for a few years, they kinda grow on ya. With that said, something transpired this week that I thought was awesome. For the first time in a long time, the players stood up for fellow staff members (or in this case, sat down). If you have yet to hear the story, here it is in a nut shell. MLB had

baseball: Baseballs on Steroids (today's funny) - 03/19/08 01:50 PM
It never fails that there is one player in every group that thinks that he has to have the upper hand. Problem is, at what cost did that upper hand come at. Today I received a YouTube video from my good friend Linda Futral from ActiveRain. After I saw the video, I new that I just had to share it will all my friends here. baseball: Baseball highlights - version 3.16 - 03/16/08 06:41 AM
As of the time that I am writing this report, there are 9 days, 22 hours, and 56 minutes left before opening day. WOOHOO. All the teams are gearing up to make some final decisions as to who is going to play what position and how much. A lot of the younger players will not make the ball clubs due to the fact the managers do not want them sitting on the bench when they can be down playing every day. But, not to fret because they will be back for the September call ups. For now, let's let them

baseball: Local Baseball and what it means to our community - Baseball Talk 101 Contest - 03/11/08 03:15 PM
Atlanta and the greater metro area is blessed to have the Atlanta Braves. The Braves organization brings a lot to the community and to Metro Atlanta as a whole. Besides the ability to see a major league games, meet stars, get autographs, and spend a day at the park, you have to step back and take a look at what these people do for the community. First and foremost, having a team like the Braves is an attraction to the area. An attraction that not only brings in revenue from visitors, but potential homeowners. Baseball fans come into our fair region
