Ellensburg is becoming more and more a commuter town. My Sister and her husband are having a home built there, and he will be commuting to Factoria.
That would have sounded crazy to me when I was living in Issaquah years ago. But now that I live in Wenatchee and can't handle heavy traffic anymore, it makes sense to me. My Brother-in-Law can hop on I-90 with no traffic and be at the office in just over an hour (mostly at 70MPH). Okanogan County in Eastern Washington is a beautiful place, and may be one of the last places to find affordable housing. The Okanogan County Community Action council is a great organization that offers homebuyer training on a regular basis. In our area of Eastern Washington (which includes the markets of Leavenworth, Wenatchee, Chelan, Quincy, and Okanogan County), we have a limited supply of available homes for sale, and a lot of people wanting to buy. Also, with only a few exceptions, we don't have the large scale developments that you find in more populated areas where you can go tour model homes and buy ‘Lot # 19 with the Berkshire Model'.

eastern washington: New Mortgage Program For Washington State Veterans - 03/07/07 12:58 AM
Washington State is offering a great program for low rate mortgage financing for US Veterans. This is not a VA loan, this is State Bond program called House Key, which is primarily set up for First Time Homebuyers. However, Veterans are offered a one-time chance to use this program, even if they aren't a first time buyer. The program allows for purchases up to $230,000 so it is better suited to our side of the state (Eastern Washington) where homes at this price still exist.
