wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday, Tulips 2013 - 04/17/13 04:10 PM
Wordless Wednesday, Tulips 2013

Yesterday was our day to take in the tulips of the Skagit Valley.  I’ve heard that outside of Holland, the Skagit Valley produces more Tulip bulbs than anywhere else in the world.

We visited the display gardens of RoozenGaarde this year.  My pictures below do not do them justice.
The Tulip Festival runs through April every year.
To see a few more, see my next post, Silent Sunday, Tell a Tale of Tulips.

Wordless Wednesday, Cherry Blossoms in Sammamish

Cherry Blossoms are busting out all over the Northwest.  These white blossoms are set against some pink, making a nice color contrast.  Our daffodils are blooming and the Tulip Festival in La Conner has started.  I’ll be making my annual trip there after the taxes are done.

wordless wednesday: An Empty Bench, Full of Memories - 02/20/13 01:11 PM
An Empty Bench, Full of Memories

An empty bench full of memories.  In early 2002, a classmate of my oldest son had a nose bleed.  A common event for an active young boy, playing soccer, running with friends and just being a kid.  The nose bleed led to a Dr. Appt, which led to a diagnosis of leukemia.  The young man went through all the best treatments medicine could find, but it was to no avail.  The bench is empty, but for those that knew him, it brings back many memories.  Hug the ones you love, they are on loan for … (9 comments)

Wordless Wednesday, Downtown Mercer Island, 1960

This is a picture in the business district of downtown Mercer Island taken around 1960 from our family collection.  A lot has changed since then; the gas station and little house are gone.  Loads of mixed use retail/residential building has gone up.  One business from this picture is still there, the shoe repair.  Family owned since 1948 it’s passed down to another generation, with a third ready to follow.

Cherry Blossom Lane, Hampton Woods, Sammamish

Not really called Cherry Blossom Lane, this is NE 20th St in the Hampton Woods Neighborhood in Sammamish.  It just seemed like all the trees were in bloom today.  White and pink blossoms set against the dark green fir trees and the blue sky just looked like it should be renamed, at least for a few days.
Hampton Woods is just outside Sahalee, near Heritage Hills.

wordless wednesday: Why I do Wordless Wednesdays and Silent Sundays, Localism! - 03/28/10 05:20 PM
Why I do Wordless Wednesdays and Silent Sundays, Localism!
I love photography.  Since my first camera at camp in the fourth grade through Jr. High where I learned how to develop film and make prints to today's digital cameras and editing software, it's always been a fun thing for me to do.
Second, the majority of my photos are local, some extremely local like my back yard, driveway or trees in my yard.  I post most of them in "localism" highlighting things around Sammamish, King County or the State of Washington.  I am a fan of my region of the country … (48 comments)

Wordless Wednesday, What Did One Eagle Say to Another?

So, two eagles are sitting in a tree, one eagle says, "____________________________."  To which the other eagle replies, "_____________________________."
So, what are these two beautiful symbols of America saying?  Please tell me in your comments the one I like best will get a $5.00 Starbucks card in the mail.  (If that's allowed)

Wordless Wednesday, Just Hangin Out, Do You See Me?

In a Sammamish protected wetland I drive by nearly every day I spotted something sitting in a tree.  I didn't have my camera with me, so I headed home and returned minutes later to find this critter still there.  Do you see it?

Wordless Wednesday, Ebright Creek Park, Sammamish...Take Time to Play

Ebright Creek Park is one of the newest city parks in Sammamish and offers something for almost everyone.  Swings, slides climbing toys along with trails, sports courts surrounded by protected wetlands loaded with birds, frogs and more.  The creek itself is known to support salmon and trout.

My last post was about a bench in the woods and the need to sit and think.  We also have a need to play.  When was the last time you got out and played?

Wordless Wednesday, One Person's Flower another Person's Weed.

I've done several Wordless Wednesday's with recent flowers and blooms, but these are popping up too.  As a kid we played the game, "Do you like butter?" and would put a dandelion under the chin of another child.  If we saw the reflection, they did.  If we wanted to have some fun, we'd rub the dandelion into the chin leaving a mess for their mom to wipe off.

Wordless Wednesday, Sammamish Commons on a Clear Day

The Sammamish Commons is our city hall, police, library, Skate Park and public space.  Located centrally in the city geographically it takes full advantage of the view on this clear day last week.  Downtown Seattle can be seen and the Olympic Mountains rise above the skyscrapers.

Wordless Wednesday, Did your high school have a view like this?  Skyline HS

Did your high school have a view like this?  This was taken from the parking lot at Skyline High School in Sammamish WA.  Skyline is one of 3 high schools in Sammamish and is in the Issaquah School District.  Skyline is known for outstanding academic and sports.  The Spartans are State Football champions for 2009, this is their third State Title.
It's a beautiful campus currently undergoing an addition, even though it was opened in 1997.  What I find amazing is this prime view real estate was … (9 comments)

Silent Sunday, Above it All...Again

My recent Wordless Wednesday, Above it All was so well received I felt I couldn't pass up offering this second image taken on the same flight. Mount Rainier is a solo performer here. There were 3 mountains in the previous post.  Don't you want to walk across those clouds?

Wordless Wednesday, Above it All

While flying to the Northwest for a fishing trip in a small plane, a friend took this picture.  Living in the Northwest I am spoiled with phenomenal scenery every day.  I tend to live my life below the clouds, under the grey skies that Seattle is best known for, but on a clear day I couldn't ask to be in a better place, and anything seems possible.

wordless wednesday: Would you build here? Wordless Wednesday - 01/13/10 05:02 PM
Would you build here?  Wordless Wednesday.

There is an old story about building on solid ground and not on the sand.  Ground like this will not support very much and a solid house requires a firm footing and foundation.  A firm foundation includes solid representation from your agent and your lender.  If you wouldn't build on such a site, why consider less than solid assistance and guidance when buying or selling?

wordless wednesday: Sledding in Sammamish, Wordless Wednesday - 01/06/10 10:54 AM
Sledding in Sammamish, Wordless Wednesday
It's been a year since we were hit with one of the biggest snow storms the Seattle area has seen in a number of years.  A white Christmas was followed by a white New Year.  This year much of the rest of the country has been socked in with ice & snow while we are green and wet.

Kids will always find a way to maximize their fun, garbage cans as bowling pins, sleds and riders as bowling balls.  Looks like a strike, although no one was keeping score.

wordless wednesday: Fall City WA, Wordless Wednesday - 12/23/09 01:26 PM
Fall City WA, Wordless Wednesday

Just downstream from Snoqualmie Falls is the little unincorporated town of Fall City.  The Snoqulamie River is running under the bridge.  Mount Si sits in the distance just beyond the City of North Bend.  A grocery store, gas station, a couple of restaurants make up most of the business here.  Riverside Park is popular in the Summer when swimming and rafting are active.

Wordless Wednesday... Ittttssss Ccccolddddd

Snoqualmie Falls is just minutes off I-90 about 35 minutes east of Seattle.  The spray was washing up onto the rocks and freezing there, leaving a layer of white on the cliffs below.  The temperature was in the teens to low twenties when I took this picture.
Salish Lodge at the falls is famous for seving fantastic breakfasts in a a dining room that looks out over the falls.  Full service dining, rooms and spa are also available.
The nearby town of Snoqualmie offers historic homes built for the original loggers who settled there as well as … (9 comments)

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday, Ocean Sunset - 11/18/09 10:37 AM

The ocean in the fall and winter can be spectacular.  Storms buffet the beaches with high winds and occasionally horizontal rains.  It was March in Long Beach Washington when we took a family outing and enjoyed the pounding of the grey seas against the beach with the backdrop of a crimson sky.  Sunsets are my unquestionable favorites.

wordless wednesday: Going after Big Bucks, I took the shot... Less Words Wednesday... - 11/04/09 10:39 AM
Driving to look at some Brokers Open House's with my wife last week, this big fellow bounded across the road in front of us.   We see deer on a daily basis but this one really impressed us, he was majestic.
I asked for my camera as we pulled alongside the road and got out to take the shot with my trusty 38mm lens.  I followed him down a driveway continuing to shoot.  He seemed annoyed but went about his business without paying me too much attention.
These are two of the trophies I came away with on my unexpected hunting trip.
