Send A Child to MDA CAMP

I am on a mission! I am trying to collect enough donations to send two children to MDA camp this summer by March 5, 2008. The MDA organization has a 5 day camp in Bunkie, Louisiana beginning May 25, 2008. I would absolutely love if you were to be so generous and open your hearts and join with me in my efforts to send two campers on a memorable week of camping and activities. The camp fee is $650.00 per child.

Please visit https://www.mdaevent.org/ParticipantInfo.aspx?j=42304168-d3de-40f2-902b-f7be617b61ca to support this wonderful cause. Remember, it is tax deductible, and any size donation is greatly appreciated. They accept credit cards as well as checks.

This is a great program that serves many families throughout Ascension Parish as well as the entire United States. I met Adrian an 9 year old this past week who attended the camp last year for the first time. She said, "It was the best week of my life, even better than Disney World." This is such an awesome place for children with physical disabilities to connect with other children and not looked upon as being "different."

My daughter Anna was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease this past year, and we are now eligible to participate in the clinic. Even though she does not have muscular dystrophy it is covered, like so many other diseases, under the MDA umbrella. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful clinic with some of the best neurologists in the state right here in Baton Rouge.

I am one of the representatives for RE/MAX First Ascension participating in the Lock Up being held at the Outback Steak House in Gonzales on March 5, 2008. If you would like to help or know someone you would like to nominate to be "locked up" please email me directly at darlanixon@remax.net or if you need further information please visit https://www.mda.org

One person CAN make a difference...but you have to ACT!

Cardboard COWS??!!

The greener pastures are certainly changing in Ascension Parish. I can remember while riding through Gonzales to Baton Rouge seeing miles of green pastures with cows, calves and horses grazing in wide open spaces...NOOOOO MORE! The days of cow sightings are becoming a thing of the past. And just to prove that point, Kleinpeter Dairy plant located on Airline Highway placed cardboard cows and calves with a barn in their "pasture." I'll be posting a photo on my website darlanixon.com shortly if you care to see for yourself!

My family's property off of Swamp Road had 100's of acres of pasture, a stocked pond, a large barn, a rye grass pasture, a roping pen with horses, cows, chickens, guinea's and a pair of siamese cats. Now, it is the home to over 500 homes divided into 3 separate subdivisions. I get a little sentimental thinking back to those days of riding through the wooded areas with my cousins being scared what might be around the corner. But I guess this is progress and everyone here in Ascension certainly knows about that if they have been around the city within the past 15 years. I am curious to know what it will be like in the next 15 years. I just hate the thought of knowing my grandkids will probably have to pet a cardboard cow!

Positive side of the Real Estate Woes

I know the national market seems to be on a wild wind rollercoaster ride these days but here in Louisiana things are slowly getting back to the normal days of Pre-Katrina. For those who don't know our market was absolutely crazy after Katrina blew her way through the southern regions our great state.

On the positive side of the loan crisis, buyers who have a good credit score now have a prime opportunity to get a great rate on the home of their dreams.

With another potential cut in rates, buyers should be actively searching for a home as an investment.

NOW IS THE TIME!
