video: Introducing Your Local Agent In Full High Definition in More Ways Than One - 03/18/12 12:40 PM
Defining yourself to your market. It's a blend of formula and a personal outreach. How many realtors really reach out to their audience to let them know who they are and what their mission is? Not that many do as well as Charlie Dresen of Steamboat Springs when it comes to introducing themselves in a meaningful way to their audience. Charlie is clear in his vision and communicates that to anyone who happens upon his introduction. I like the part where he says, "hearing what your goals are and making a plan to meet those goals..." Take a look at some … (5 comments)

video: Steamboat Springs Real Estate | An Epitome of Lifestyle - 02/24/12 09:07 AM
Many communities are simply tracts of houses and lifestyle is something you have to define for yourself. One person is into boating, another- bicycling. The same diversity of interests is present in Steamboat too, but in Steamboat, unlike many communities, a unifying interest tends to pervade the town: snow. What its consistency is on the slopes, when the next storm will bring more and when the generously long season ends and starts. A town that gets up to 400 inches of Champagne powder per year. That one factor influences everything about Steamboat Springs, including its real estate and how homes are constructed, maintained … (0 comments)

video: What Happens When We Die? - 01/20/12 12:10 PM
Previous post: Are you Against Experts? While many argue over the merits of the idea of eternal life or afterlife and the destination or even the existence of the spirit and salvation of the soul for a better life ahead, one thing is certain for some. They impact the lives of others profoundly when they die. This man lost a battle with cancer just a few days ago and it is obvious that he impacted others' lives in a great way. This video he created for his wife says a lot with only a few words. … (3 comments)

video: Facebook May Integrate Skype Video - Will They Integrate User Privacy? - 11/29/10 10:58 AM
Recent appearances of Skype-specific objects in on-page javascript in Facebook web pages that reference Skype IDs, specifically, have re-fueled speculation that Facebook will indeed integrate Skype video chat into its platform.
With the recent announcement of a Facebook Email service, an addition of Skype or other video chat could simply be yet another attempt by facebook to encapsulate users in the Facebook universe.

video: Fullerton Homes For Sale - Got Video? - 06/29/10 03:33 PM
Downtown Fullerton engenders the old and new all at once in a unique blend of college life and history. One of the main terminals during the area's oil industry days, Fullerton has retained many of its old landmarks from the train station to the police station, not to mention Fullerton College where students arrived in canoes in the hundred year flood of 1938, when most of Orange County found itself flooded. Fullerton shops restaurants and entertainment share a long tradition of blending new and old. The day I took this video, we ate at Rutabegorz, established 40 years ago and still … (0 comments)

video: Was Your Website SEO Affected By Google's May Day Update? - 05/30/10 05:12 PM
I constantly look at what's happening on all the website rankings for myself and my clients. I did notice a slight shift at the beginning of May that seemed to re-adjust with most "players" in close to the same positions, but I did hear a lot of buzz concerning the "May Day" update.
In my own work, I've seen improvements for myself and my clients- I've always encouraged and stressed creating good content and following "white hat SEO" practices. This was the kind of event that proves white-hat SEO long term.

Matt Cutts explains the recent "May Day" change in … (1 comments)

video: Wow! I Could Have Had A V8 WebM - 05/27/10 07:46 PM

Although I'm speaking directly to Google's announcement that the VP8 Codec has been inducted into its WebM open media project, this is really just a curmudgeonly dismissal of what I see as yet another parade float in the procession of annoyances that occur solely as a result of someone trying to save money at the expense of the little people at the bottom of the pyramid, we the users. My background contributes to my perhaps biased view of something like V8. I worked for years in a small company as a "hands on all things" general IT guy. That led to … (0 comments)

video: Canon 550D T2i - A Quick Review - Video Sample - 05/11/10 04:55 PM
As I mentioned in my previous post, the Canon 550D T2i is becoming a choice for professional videographers for its high quality video and lightweight body. The T2i, a junior version of the Canon 7D (a little faster at high rate photos/second) produces the exact quality video and photography of its heavier cousin. Here is a sample pieced together of some test footage I shot a few days ago in downtown Fullerton, CA.

video: Video Killed The SEO Star - 02/28/10 09:39 PM

That's right, just when you thought you had page one dominance, someone comes along, posts a Youtube video and there it sits on Page one siphoning off your traffic. This could be the future for many who don't keep up with the emerging influence of video in organic search.
SEO for video is still an emerging skillset. First, many people won't venture into and use video- they're apprehensive of appearing on video or they believe that the costs of producing video useful to business is too prohibitive. The truth is, if you have a Flip or similar video camera and … (6 comments)

video: More on Keynote and Video - 02/24/10 01:33 PM
This one was a little harder. I hit the limits of the processor and the software. The presentation will loop the four "background" videos forward and backwards over and over so you can choose a nice clip and have it keep moving. Not so in the export. One frontwards run and it stops, so you have to choose enough video in the setup or have a still image when it stops as this one does by time it's around halfway through. I downsized the final output in iMovie to a standard resolution. Next, I'll see how HD performs.

video: Secret Niche: SEO for Video - 02/11/10 11:18 AM
I'm exploring SEO for video and have discovered that, at least in some markets, this is a very vulnerable-to-leverage niche- not so much in SEO but in applying SEO techniques toward a successful SEM (search engine marketing) tactic.
You have probably seen: Video Results for... like this.

I'm finding that some parameters are emerging in my research into this strategy.

video: Video On Craigslist | Reloaded Tutorial - 08/29/09 07:10 PM
To simply get the posts in order:

Video On Craigslist? Part I  Can you place any kind of flash or video on a Craigslist post? The standard answer is "no." But there is still a way to place animated content like you see here (below) on Craigslist. First, you have to convert a limited video to animated GIF format. This can be quite a challenge, especially when initially looking for software to do the job. Secondly, it's a balancing act to stay between compelling content and an overly bloated file that doesn't render fast enough to do any good. Stay … (5 comments)

video: Video On Craigslist? Part IV - Hosting and Embedding Your Animation - 08/29/09 06:44 PM

Craigslist.
Some say Craigslist is a dying concept. (another topic)
Some say social networking is a waste of time.
Some say and some do.
This is for those that do and those that can handle a little HTML.
Step 1. Host your GIF file. I recommend keeping the animated GIF as small as possible. The one I used in this blog is 8.7 MB. The One in my Craigslist post is only 1.3MB. Performance is always a consideration when you include one if these files. I make the assumption that my audience will be using broadband of some kind. If … (0 comments)

video: Orange County Photography by Dave Keys | Vimeo vs. Youtube Redux - 08/23/09 09:13 AM
I decided to press the limits of youtube to see just how good the quality is. Why? The "upper limits" of Youtube compared to the free version of Vimeo allow for much larger file uploads. (up to 2GB per video). I produced an HD version of a montage of photos from a recent trip to Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon. At 1.98GB the file just slipped in under the max limit for uploads. Rendered in full HD 1440 x 1080 at full quality H.264, The video took a long time to upload and several hours to fully render on … (1 comments)

I had to share this. Sometimes life is a lot like this and you just have to keep taking the next step (carefully). This area is closed to the public with fines over 5,000 Euros but that didn't seem to stop these folks. If I were walking that path, the fine would be the last thing on my mind. video: Virtual Tours Say it All part 2 Virtual Tours in HD? - Apple and Google Technology to the rescue - 07/23/08 04:56 PM
It's going to take more than the standard thousand words...
HD video - it's official
Ok, so having experimented with various technology venues to post a great virtual tour that streams well to the highest percentages of viewers, I reached the conclusion that high definition content was pretty much out of the question. I didn't want to host it on my own server and chew up bandwidth if I were trying to stream out to 10 people at once. Even with my 5MB upstream, a high def video would use it up fast and slow the performance of my server. Additionally, … (1 comments)
